Ive bought tickets on QF7/8 in August. Ive checked my itinerary on qantas.com and checkmytrip but cant find a seat allocation. Should I give qantas a call?

On a related note, as QC Bronze, when can I select/change my seat

You have to wait until 7 days before your flight to select your seats

I believe not. 747s don't have the new Skybed II and I don't believe any of them have been retrofitted yet.

Had a business traveller from SFO in my office today.
He sure rolled his eyes when I told him about DFW and no SFO.
Well that will be one lost from the front of the QF plane.

Just Booked:

QF 7 SYD - DFW 06/07/2011

QF8 DFW - SYD 16/07/2011

Great value flights for uni hols/school hols.

So is the seconf and the third ... 4th perhaps but I haven't gone there in a A/C.

Tip: There is nothing to stop one from going back and requesting more after using your first voucher(s). ;)

I done this many times; plenty of others have posted here and on FlyerTalk about this as well.

UA have ditched their vouchers and offer basic alcoholic beverages (AKA "Well Drinks") on a complimentary basis. One needs to pay for 'premium' beverages. (More on that here: RCC/PC annoucement - free WiFi and snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks - FlyerTalk Forums)

AA also are now providing basic alcoholic beverages on a complimentary basis; however, they are still providing vouchers for 'premium' drinks to those who entitled to them on the same basis (e.g. Non AA oneworld emerald/sapphire, AA EXP/Platinum travelling "to outside North America+MEX", QP members).

LoL.. yeah I'm probably the last person to ask about lounge catering and drinks since I don't take alcohol or major food in the lounges. Things have obviously changed since I last took a passing interest. I'll be quiet about food from here on... promise.

I have booked flights on this service for August. When I rang the QF call centre to provide the additional information required to travel to the US (the website function wasnt working for me), the woman on the phone asked if I wanted to request seats while I was on the phone. I said I would check with the mrs to see if she had any preferences and call back another time to give my requests.

If I call back and request row 38 or 39 (ie- premium economy seats with economy service) am I going to be laughed at or is this worth a try? I am only a bronze (very close to silver now, but I guess close doesnt cut it).

I would appreciate your thoughts :)

The answer will likely be that those rows are not available for your seating selection.
You may be told they are already taken, but the reality is that they are just not going to available to you and the telephone agent will not be able to assign them. The blocking of those seats for status passengers can only be overridden by the seating department and unless you can justify a very good reason, its not going to be referred to them and if it was, they likely answer will be "no".

For those with no status, it's 7 days prior if attempted on-line.

Calling seems to allow limited seat selection, perhaps related to the ~20% limit that existed a few years ago.

I have booked two business class round-trips as free award tickets through AAdvantage (125,000 points each RT set) so award seat inventory is obviously available to AAdvantage members already. Both of them are DFW-BNE-PER-SYD-DFW. I have free First class connections to/from from my US domestic point of origin. No problems at all. I even got seat allocations.

I'm also booked in August.... might see you there :P

I guess I'm in the minority-I would much rather see DFW than SFO.Really good that the return flight is via BNE-can see this being used in the future.

ok just changed my Syd-LA J reward to Syd-DFW for 13th July.

Managed to score seats in the upper deck 17a/b i wanted 16 but
they seem to be taken

Anyone know if we get QF Pj's on this flight ?

Well, since nobody's flown on it yet, we can't be sure. But I can't see why they wouldn't.

Personally, the flight is so long I think they should offer each passenger two pairs. ;)

We've booked 2 x Y+ sale fares at $2.5K each and snaffled Row 29. I guess we'll have to take our own PJs, but that's sweet! :)

Just done a bit of playing around and for around 1950 you can get a Y out and Y+ back and with the seating this means you can get a Y+ seat out and a J seat on the way back. Interesting interesting. If I just had some more annual leave days left...

-edit-

Saying that I would pay the 500 more to sit in J both ways :D

I rang up to get my seats allocated and was given 30a and 30k. Close enough to business class, and at half the price. Not bad!
