I'd be happy with a schedule like that. The early morning CNS-SYD would provide great connections to the International network I wouldn't be surprised if QF take over the HTI flights as these flights aren't strong for JQ anyway. I haven't been there for a few years now, but I imagine a lot of the leisure market to HTI is still quite premium?

Perhaps a daily to BNE, daily to SYD and a 3-4xwk service to MEL. These flights can be operated in times so that the aircraft can operate extra frequencies on golden triangle routes in the morning/evening.

Kind of tempted to book one just to see the look of the person when trying to checkin at Brisbane!

"Where are you off to today sir"
"Gold Coast"
"huh

Got the same sort of reaction checking in at CNS for BNE when I routed via SYD!

Off Topic but I'll never forget the look at the checkin agent at PQQ to go to OOL (Back when QF flew into OOL). PQQ-CFS-BNE-SYD-OOL, got there eventually!

Jetstar now advertising $35 fares on their homepage, so price match may not be available

Leaving the price guarantee to one side for a moment, one would really have to wonder if JQ is really worth over double the fare of TT.

As for the price guarantee, I remember a small electronics shop getting peeved at Target (or K-Mart) offering a price guarantee which was costing them money. The electronics mob bought a couple of X-Boxes (or similar) and advertised them "on sale until stocks run-out" at prices well under cost. The stocks ran out very quickly and the shop just advised everyone to use their sale calalogue to demand Target (or K-Mart) honour their price guarantee....................

Bloody clever. I love that!

I know I'll get howled down here but.............

JQ - OOL-MEL - $124
QF - OOL-MEL - $88
VA - OOL-MEL - $75
TT - OOL-MEL - $60

TT are also pretty keen to win back their share of the market slice. Pretty good OTP, pretty good fare, aren't they still worthy players to help the top dogs keep realistic ideals?

Not such surprising numbers there, I had a look at one-way Y & J fares from OOL-SYD on the 6th Nov (pretty random day after QF enter the market) - look at these fares:

QF Y - OOL-SYD - $99
JQ Y - OOL-SYD - $69 (or $83 with checked in baggage)
VA Y - OOL-SYD - $39
TT Y - OOL-SYD - $30 (or $45 with checked in baggage)

And for J class people/fans:

QF J - OOL-SYD - $489
VA J - OOL-SYD - $279

Will be interesting to see the load factors once all of this competition happens. What a blood-bath. You would also really need to get your head read if you took the JQ option in this case.

Not bad fares from PER to be honest, considering it is mainline - $289 seems to be the base fare.

$39 for OOL-SYD on VA? That's standard time pricing? That's dropping pants rates, right?

What's the old phrase - "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer....then when the time is right....."

You could get it lower. Do a Jetstar price match
Why?

The Qantas and Virgin airfares were so low that I booked 3 Qantas returns and 6 Virgin returns for Jan-May next year and I am extremely pleased with my efforts. I would have booked more but I am uncertain of the exact dates for Thailand trips in February and April.

The total cost of those 9 returns is $810....

Well, either you move to gold cost or you become an expert on the OOL/Brisbane commute ...

... actually you're gonna become used to that, either way ...

Very nicely done JohnK.

Did you split them to maintain status?

Keep us updated with the commutes when you do them :) (maybe your curse is confined to BNE?!)

The Brisbane/OOL commute appears to be relatively simple and will cost me nothing if I have been at work Mon-Fri. It should take ~2 hours if the bus waits for the train and vice versa.

My year ends first week in September so I will lose Platinum status and hopefully drop to Gold.

With last weeks business class happy hour, the 4 flexis I will book for complimentary upgrade to business class and the OOL-SYD returns I will only be 50SCs away from requalifying Gold until August 2014. Qantas Platinum is almost in the bag until May 2014.

I wish. My curse follows me everywhere and with Gold Coast weather I may be stuck on the Gold Coast some Fridays or land in BNE some Sundays.

The second outcome is not so bad and the first outcome would have to come with some sort of accommodation although my yearly travel insurance should cover me.

So If i booked MEL-xSYD-OOL , I would get 20 SC's and 2000 points instead of 15SC's and 1000 points with JQ going direct MEL-OOL?

Just a clarification for me as my VA savvy is somewhat lacking. If I fly J via complimentry upgrade via flexi tickets, do I then earn J SC's?

No, you earn at the Full Economy rate (class of original booking)

It would be nice but not quite.

But then errors occur all the time....
