QF Understocking the Champers?

no... the WP getting champagne in Y is not being served vintage from F. They would be getting the standard J champagne. So this is not relevant.

On the 2 occasions when I have unfortunately been downstairs on the a380 and not in rows 1 to 5, the csm upon noticing my discomfort has brought f champagne.

if qantas needs to give out sweeteners to keep their platinums, is there a reason the gifts can't be restricted to hardware that won't run out? an amenity kit or headphones would fit into this example... everyone in first class has already been given theirs.

why give out champagne and then run out? why give out a cheese plate when a first class passenger might want one later?

i don't think cabin crew are necessarily best placed to determine which 'soft' items they can and can't give out. there are, unfortunately, too many qantas crews that can't anticipate pax needs on the best of days... yet they appear to have the ability to anticipate what items a first class passenger won't need later in the flight?

I think we're all working on the assumption that First passengers should get first bite at the Champagne cherry. Should First passengers be prioritised over WPs?
Personally, I say 'yes', but perhaps QF feel otherwise... Most likely it's just that not enough thought has been put into it.

Of course they should.

The champagne and other soft products are loaded for that cabin, and indeed advertised as a benefit of flying in that cabin. Therefore passengers in that cabin should always get priority.

Well I am WP and F and I suspect rather a large no of F passengers would be...... Also if I am paying 4 or 5 times the amount a Y passenger is then yes I should be. I think WP passengers in J or Y should get their perks, but if Qantas is having trouble loading enough bubbly for both, then I think there needs to be a system that copes.

How did you know it was F champagne?

Champagne in F and sparkling in J?

F glasses plus I recognised the taste. Also on one occasion the csm told me the champagne was from first class.

Champagne is served in both classes, I recall Lanson black label in J, but haven't been in J for a while.

I would be pretty upset if there wasn't enough champagne as an F pax, and certainly agree that F pax are the priority here.

The worst part is that it sounds like it has been going on for some time, with no resolution! Let's hope Red Roo can fix the great F champagne drought! ;)

'first class' as a concept is multi-faceted... and one element is the perception of glamour... a champagne and caviar experience. qantas doesn't serve caviar (not sure why) so they have to get the champagne bit right.

and it's not hard... one bottle per passenger, and one spare. last minute pax are not an issue... you have bonded storage at the airport and you load more bottles if you have more pax. even if you have to take it from an unbonded supply, you do so.

it doesn't even really matter if the previous 10 flights have only consumed half a bottle per passenger, you cannot afford the mistake on your eleventh flight of running out.

running out if champagne is such a basic mistake, and a costly one from a PR perspective. can you name another airline that appears to regularly run out if an item like champagne?

there are of course other elements to first class (arguably more important)... but all of them need to work seamlessly in first class... run out of champagne and you affect one of the other elements which is the 'personalised and tailored experience'... you lose that if you no longer have an item available when you want it.

for a while there Thai was not loading enough Dom Perignon, possibly only 2 or 3 bottles for a long haul flight. It apparently has been less of a problem lately

We were told that the stores of alcohol and food must be emptied at the end of each sector.

So after being nudged by Red Roo (thanks RR) I got an email response. Basically an apology but no real explanation as to why there wasn't enough F-class champers on board for more than one glass (and not even a first glass for my travelling companion). Im still mystified as to how that can happen without a clearly identifiable mishap... Ah well. If a points upgrade for J to F goes through ill be going to LHR next Monday from Melb in F, so it'll be interesting to see how they go. I'm tempted to BYO my own ice bucket and just ask them to leave me a bottle straight after leveling out.

Enjoyed reading the comments...are you all serious?! Going to change airlines because they do (don't) serve 1998 Chateau nuef de Wanker? Get real! If these are the only things that matter...good grief. Yes, we all pay a LOT of money to turn left when we get onto an aircraft, its a worry. We all want to feel special. I just think we all take it a little too far sometimes (ducking and swerving the bottles of empty Moet and VB that will be thrown my way!)

Yes very serious. I will personally offload myself if I don't find pyjamas in the correct size. I will also offload myself off any flight unless I can be guaranteed of a minimum of 3 bottle of champers to myself (flights over 10 hours) or 2 bottles (flights under 10 hours).

i guess some people expect to actually get what they've paid for.
