QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

I've only ever had good experiences with Auckland and seat releases - the agents I've dealt with from there have access to the droid. I find our Kiwi cousins just as capable as the Hobart based agents.
Sadly I only seem to get the new, very green agents whenever I'm connected to AKL. I've even suffered a few of the dreaded disconnections whenever I've asked for something slightly complicated. It always frustrates me that even though they know who I am and have my contact details, they never call back. Never.

I'm yet to have a good experience.

Thank you all for your advice.
It took 3 phone calls.
Ist agent was hopeless! Told me to cancel the seats and rebook if I wasn't happy! Second agent said she would get back to me...she didnt
Just made my 3rd call and got an agent from Hobart who fixed it all in 2 minutes, said I should never have been charged in the first place. Didn't know why the points were taken from my partners account and said it shouldn't have occurred either. Points returned in 2 minutes!

Lisa from Hobart is a star!

6?! I doubt even P1 could get 6 released
(the route is important too of course)

could ask though. doesn't hurt to give it a go!

Business Class? I note you mentioned this was in July, school holidays, if you're talking about the same release...
we were offered business class but we declined as it was a lot of points - and the flight was only 6 hours and yes school holidays - economy tickets are around the $2000 mark each so thought we'd ask for classic seats to be released. Was very dubious that 4 would be released

Kisa in AKL took almost 21 minutes to process a request for me MEL-PER on QF9 in a couple of weeks. ExpertFlyer was showing N9 but it was declined.

In economy? Not 100% sure but it's possible this would have needed Q class availability to release due to it being the domestic leg of an international flight, unlike domestic flights that require N.

Yes, economy. I should have mentioned that.

Interesting theory. ExpertFlyer says Q0, although I would have thought the agent would have known that and therefore not put the request through.

Trying to get a seat released for next week, but 3 calls in and I'm not getting any agent who can access the droid immediately (Hobart or Auckland)... keep getting routed offshore

Wow, that is painful! Perhaps try through BNE?

Nah, I need to leave before Wednesday, and that flight only operates on Wed and Fri.

Ended up booking CR Y and putting in an upgrade request (always seemed odd to me that you can upgrade Reward Y but not Sale Y)

Yeah, I figured given it's I9 at less than a month out there's a decent chance of an upgrade (and QF doesn't tend to cancel these flights)

You can also try periodically calling to see if they'll release a seat and then change your existing booking to U class.

You will come out ahead on points this way (82k + 5k change fee vs 31.5k + 69.7k upgrade) and earn SC via Points Club.
