QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

I might have to call through and try get Hobart in the morning and get the the bookings removed
I had exactly the same thing happening today and it was definitely Hobart I was speaking to. Sounded to me as if this was a rather new, very scripted, way to keep our hopes up. But we all know that it’s a rejection.

It's absolutely not.

Creating a PNR and requesting the preferred flight segments into it through the droid is the correct procedure for this request. Whether the request is successful or not has absolutely nothing to do with the creation of the PNR.

SIN-MEL, forced change after KUL MEL cancellation of reward booking on MH so trying to return via SIN but no reward seats. Call centre says no chance.

I’ve learnt something new!

Had tried various flights from the US West coast to Australia and despite plenty of I (and/or even A) availability, computer said No on all of those requests. Realised only when the lovely lady in Hobart pointed it out that it’s school holiday time early October so there was that. I don’t have any kids so this always catches me by surprise (Why is Victoria Road so empty? Why do all my neighbours have their unruly kids at home all day? Why can’t I find redemption seats? ;) ).

So, changed my travel plans managed to get F on EK from Sydney to Dubai in mid October and then from Dubai to MCO in Business. Called up today to hopefully get any seats released for my flights to Australia. Requested:

QF12 28th Oct (A9, I4, T9): Negative, for either class but then

QF12 29th Oct (A9, I9, T9) came back positive and I had the choice of class. Needless to say that I went with that elusive seat in First class  So super happy about it, thank you Qantas!

Great news!

Congrats on the first class seats!

I had similar experiences recently. Tried on numerous occasions to get seats released SIN- PER. All to be rejected. First time I tried in a date outside school holidays got two business class released 😊

Thanks mate! :D

It’s probably not even worth speculating but I wonder if “the bot”, or “the drone” as one of Qantas’ call centre agents called the other day, uses quite simple block out periods for school holidays? We will most likely never find out and I’m happy that many of us get lucky from time to time

QF does the same thing with regular award seats - there are gaps in the calendar (either that, or all the reward seats are taken very early?) around the school holiday period - popular ones are of course Dec-Jan, and then Easter school holidays as well. Stands to reason the bot of doom/joy does the same thing

Currently requesting the release of one seat for long haul international business (787) for flights in 9 days time. Availability is wide open with I8 and I9 on each flight. Availabilty in all other cabins is wide open too.

I have been requesting the release of 1x U seat on these flights daily for the last month. Has anyone had experience with getting a seat released the closer it gets to departure, if the availbilty remains wide open? I am guessing that there is a high chance of QF releasing Classic Reward Seats over the next couple of days too.

I haven't mentioned the flights and dates due to obvious reasons.

What obvious reasons..?

I suspect the allocation of convertible revenue seats has been exhausted (the bot often gives a response like this) and you're out of luck.

Without knowing the route it's hard to give a specific comment but Qantas will probably retain the inventory for last minute purchases (e.g. business trips to USA/Europe) then process any remaining inventory as classic/bid now upgrades.

I'm looking at requesting award seat release in J for an LHR-SYD or SYD-LHR for next year and I'm wondering if you have to have all the points in tour QF account before requesting the release? I don't want to transfer them from my credit card accounts and have them locked into QF until I know I'm actually going to use them unless I need to!

Not sure.
I have had a successful request for a release earlier this year and that seat held for 4 days as i was hoping for another flight to be released in the next few days .
Maybe you could ask the agent to put on hold a successful request to give you time to transfer the points across .
