QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

Using the seat map can indicate when a flight is very full, but an unallocated seat map does not necessarily indicate that the flight is lightly sold. The blocked seats are likely due to your QFF status.

The Flight Availability tab is going to be more useful for requesting seats. The particular flight you are looking at (2APR25 MEL-CGK QF39) has unusual availability this far out - only Flex Business (J) and Flex/Semi-Flex Economy (YBHKM) inventory is available.

Qantas may be expecting high demand for this flight and is not releasing any sale inventory in any cabin. VIC school holidays start on 4 April, I don't know if there are any major events in Jakarta/Indonesia around that time?

You could try request 30MAR25 if that date works for you.

Flying via SYD on 31MAR25 could also be requested.

Yes, the availability does look unusual. I've been searching for events in Jakarta around that time and I can't find anything. I'll hold on a little longer to see if anything changes in Y or J.

I agree with @sudoer . It is unusual with just J9 and a seemingly empty J cabin.

One thought is a large group has it booked as a block, but no allocations, or QF are manually limiting availability for their own reasons such as anticipated demand or some other reason. I've never quite seen a situation like this, but there still is near sox months to go.

I was also thinking that it could be a group booking with no allocated seats yet. My only other thought is that there could be a huge dump of award seats coming up for some type of media release?? I think JNB and BKK happened recently, maybe Jakarta is next!

Yes, it is Easter & Australian Autumn school Holidays as per this post:
Also, you are requesting during the Autumn School holidays encompassing Easter 2025. (Varied state dependent dates from 29th March to 28th April inclusive).

Is it appropriate to ask if a P1 could do a booking on a persons behalf? My 'Friend' is struggling to get flights to LHR mid-August 2025. Yes, they realise the got nada direct but if they could get to Dallas it would work.

Unlikely, QF could just be default loading certain times and dates (like around school holidays) with no I and U fares by default then adjust them as we get closer.

Quite a few airlines do this so nothing crazy here.

Agreed with above, I don't see how the T&Cs could be read to allow non-eligible family members.

I've received some PMs asking me to make bookings and had to (hopefully politely) refuse.

The two statements cannot both be correct.

In any case, it really is a question of how much you value your time. If you have all the time in the world, you can call every day if you really want.

I think they can both be correct. People could cancel and the allocation could change, just like inventory can vary multiple times a day.

Request for 2 seats late September 2025 Apologies don’t have EF, cannot look up booking class availability

QF11 SYD>LAX approved
QF73 SYD>SFO declined
QF75 SYD>YVR declined

LAX Not my preferred option as planning to visit Canada, but I’ll take it, as we can work around LAX being a major hub airport and having plenty of options.

I was particularly impressed by those here on AFF who have commented recently regarding the requirement for a “ sale” fare to be visible, in order to request a J seat to released. No doubt this is key and was true for all 3 flights, with LAX being the only sector showing a sale fare.

Process took approx 25 mins all up on the phone, going through all 3 options and taking payment for taxes.
As I was calling from overseas i did not engage in small talk with the QFF call centre Operator, however my hunch was the call was handled in South Africa. I was really impressed with the service, and did not have to repeat myself multiple times which is so refreshing. The call centre operator was more than happy to go through various options and was not pressuring me to get off the phone.
