QF's Asia announcement

I've never been in the situation that I've missed the only connecting flight to my destination, so if my 6am ADL-SYD were delayed, causing me to not be able to make my SYD-BKK connection, would they stick me on the EK flight later that day (ughhh, arriving at 1:10 the following morning), or get me there some other convoluted way?

I have no idea what they would do. So far I've only seen this be an issue for people connecting to NZ or possibly Shanghai. In those cases those people were moved to empty forward seats for landing and announcement made to let them get off first.

Hoping I won't be reporting the outcome here, next time I'm in town after the changes are implemented. I might make it, but the baggage might not.

IMO, the biggest problem with QF's Asian strategy is the lack of a fully flat bed in J on the majority of flights into and out of Asia. If you are going to downgrade your aircraft to A330s (which I don't mind as a type) you at least have to get your hard product consistent with your other superior frames.

The same goes for B744 F class on SYD-HKG. This is simply unacceptable. Just don't sell F if you can't deliver an F class experience. Perhaps we'll see a daily 388 but I may live in hope.

I wouldn't mind doing a 10 hour flight on a A330 if I could get a skybed mkII (hence some sleep). Until then, Asia business is going elsewhere I'm afraid.

I think the 747 F is ok. As long as I have 1A or K (for privacy). I prefer the nose for F in terms of zero foot traffic. But yeah the hard product is a little ragged.

Agreed. I did HKG-MEL in the new CX J last October then QF HKG-MEL in Y in December. Walking past the J cabin was utterly underwhelming after the CX experience. AJ needs to deliver on a refreshed international A333 J product or it will simply be uncompetitive.

Agreed.. Not sure if any of the 'QF research committee" have ever truly experienced their competitors products, at least from from gate to gate.
I had a FA tell me on a recent International flight that he 'believed" that the Qantas product & service was pretty much the best...
Without probing too much, I asked if he had flown on other carriers... He exclaimed NO!
So there it was, Just a pre judgement in his belief..
Some retraining & relevant comparisons may be to some advantage.

haha. Indeed. I have also been told Neil Perry flies around the network trying out the food on board. Which is clearly not the case for some of the meals I've had!!

I am wondering how many empty seats there will be on the 6am service to Sydney, I'm imagining a lot more connecting passengers along with the usual crowd trying to make morning meetings. :-|

interesting point. I just checked for my May departure ex SYD (I'm connecting up from MEL on the 0600). They still have red e-deals for $99 (which matches te cheapest sale fare for that period). So obviously not too may refugees being shunted to that flight yet.

The flight is usually pretty much full on Monday morning. Tuesday, less so. VA did put on a 6:30 am flight for a while and loads seemed to decrease. However, that flight seems to have disappeared now.

Checked again on the QF website on the weekend, & found still no saver availability on 20th April MEl-SIN for flights leaving in the PM. Also, the rescheduled flight is now on an A333. Checked ASA, & the EK flight leaving at 1800 was showing. Called QF, but agent couldn't see EK availability, so I cancelled the existing booking & asked for a refund.

I have also participated in the LifeMiles 2 for 1 transfer deal, so checked the LM site & found Y availability on SQ A380 leaving at just past midnight. This reduces our layover in SIN from around 20 hours to 6. Cost was 2 x 30,000 miles (same as QF) plus US$203 cf QF A$480.

The miles still hadn't been refunded by late yesterday afternoon, & when I again rang QF, they asked if my Credit Card expiry date had changed (it had) so they processed the refund while I was on the line (I wonder how long it would have taken if I hadn't called). I had also paid 5,000 QF miles to select seats when the original flight left MEL at 15:15 on an A380, but when I asked about getting them back was told I would have to call reservations to get them refunded. It took a bit of effort to get reservations to agree to the refund, but they did finally but said it will take up to 7 working days before I see them.

Is the only advantage for QFFers flying a BA flight number on a CX flight the status bonus?

I can't think of any other benefit...

But I will be very happy having the BA codeshare when posting to Aadvantage.

Given that you get the status bonus when posting CX flights to Advantage - is there a material benefit in getting the BA number?

Definitely if on a discount Y when many fare buckets are non earning on CX flights.Unlikely to worry me but you never know.
