We've been providing significant WiFi hotspot services for some years, in spots all over the country. That includes coverage throughout the Adelaide and Darwin terminals (public areas - and it reaches into the front half of the lounge in Adelaide at least). We'd just love to provide more coverage in more airports, and the only barrier to that has been to get permission to do so (which is easy in some airports, hard-to-impossible in others).
I heard back from QF. Simons details have reached the right people and that they have been trying to contact him directly & the Internode office.
I clicked on the link to the T&C and clicked I agree
Hi there - I've just joined the forum and noted this thread with interest!
I'd really, really like to pitch to Qantas to see if they'd consider having Internode provide the free WiFi in the Qantas lounges generally. We'd be really keen to do it.
Running into the WiFi being dead in the International F lounge yesterday (on my way to California - where I am this week) just cemented that interest (in wanting to fix it by seeing it replaced).

If anyone has some clues as to how (and/or who) we might approach at Qantas to pursue the notion and/or to pitch to them to do it, I'd be very appreciative of the information.

Last Tuesday morning I was in the T3 QP and couldn't connect at all. Thought it was my computer as I didn't even get the Telstra Hotspot screen.
Tonight I was back in the same QP and connected manually to the wireless network first then got the splash screen with the login button, clicked that many, many times, in three different browsers over 20 or so minutes and just got the same screen staring out at me. No useful message like "you're screwed, it's not working for you because you're part Irish" or anything.
I clicked on the link to the T&C and clicked I agree (there was no directive to do this but I had to try something) and all it did was take me back to the same stupid screen.
Is it just me? Or is it useless now?
Will be able to try it in BNE on Friday.
Honestly it is pretty poor from Qantas, when you see the number of people having to resort to 3G dongles instead of using the WiFi.
I seriously cannot believe that I could get free high speed internet at Cambodia (Siem Reap) airport. Compare that to what is given in Oz and we clearly are 3rd world. Don't get me started on the state of the toilets that visitors to Sydney see!
After getting a private demo of Telstra's LTE a month ago, I'd never use WiFi in the lounge again once it is released. It is so much faster..
Hey. Maybe that is the idea? Get all the lounge lizards to stop using the Telstra / QF WiFi product (I mean I do that and tether through my BB) and so to save QF a bit of money? Technically it could be lightning fast.
I don't believe QF are paying for it at all, rather 3rd party companies are paying the hotspot cost. The Australian were "providing" it, then HP and isn't it HSBC at the moment?
That aside i have issues with public hotspots due to lack of security anyway so I have avoided using it.

I noticed recently all the HSBC signage at BNE was removed, so maybe not for long?
