From the episode tonight -

When did QF009 leave from SYD..... (as the new recruits are supposed to be in SYD and supposed to be on QF009 according to the next shot).

I also didn't really like the managers statement about " I don't know why people who are unwell fly" or something to that effect. It just didn't come across too well.
If you pay for your own airfares they are mostly non refundable. I know a few on AFF would not fly if not feeling well but for me there would have to be something serious to stop me from flying and forfeiting the airfare.

There is some statements in the show that you have to take with a grain of salt

All things aside, I've loved the show and hope they do another series. I love anything about planes and flying

they were on QF1.

I think the confusion was with the delay on QF9 that lasted 5 hours(or whatever).

Aside I am 82% sure the male FA (sorry forget his name) who was forgetting stuff worked J on my 330 MEL-SYD the other day. Was very similar and well, whoever he was, seemed new and forgot one option even existed till reminded by another FA oops...

No complaints.. I was more amused than anything (but I wasn't the one wanting the fruit salad :) )

So that was the last episode. I enjoyed the series but it is hard not to be critical, particularly when Ultimate Airport Dubai has now set a standard. Some comments:
* The editing and accuracy left a lot to be desired. Last night the narrator said QF9 was arriving from SYD and the QF3 was departing MEL...........on A380. The footage of the aircraft vs the topic has been discussed many times
* The whole show seems to be about A380 or 330 delays.........it seems that if they touch a 380, it breaks. It probably is reflective of the reliability but it wouldn't inspire any confidence in people flying to LAX or DXB.
* I know it was light hearted but they could have made it more insightful, like Ultimate Airport. e.g. a day in the life of........then have multiple roles, one each episode. I think they will see how the airline is really a 24 hour operation and things that happen like crew being called up at the last minute.
* I got sick of the medical incidents in the end. I think they showed too many - I am happy all the people involved were OK but those sort of things happen daily and really, the medical crews are the real heroes.
* I would have preferred to see how they deal with a super busy day - e.g. MEL after the AFL Grand Final.
* I think by the end it seemed like they were showing the same stories in the end. I am sure they had a lot more footage and stories but you wonder who picks the stories/footage to be used.

I hope they have another series next year because it was better than a lot of the rubbish on TV right now.

I still take issue with the 'oldest continuously operating airline in the world'. Nice little whitewash by the CEO at the 95th anniversary celebrations. Qantas was grounded. Qantas 'group' may have continued to fly bits and pieces, but I'd argue you can't pick and choose when and when not to include QF and QF group (like when JQ cancels/delays flights it's all of a sudden 'not part' of Qantas).

As for Lucy? Seriously???

And the real, oldest airline in the world's (KLM) reason for ceasing operations temporarily (WW2) is also in a slightly different class to a CEO-initiated grounding to get back at the workforce.

In any case, according to Wilkipedia, KLM continued some operations during WW2 ...
"Operations stopped during World War II (in Europe) apart from the operations in the Dutch Antilles in the Caribbean."

So AJ probably wrong all round it seems.

At least the narrator pronounces Qantas with a "t". Previously it was "Quanus". Really grated with me.

Got to say that yes, that last episode was super bad in terms of accuracy - the issues mentioned, plus voiceover saying "At International..." with a view of the domestic apron and 737's etc shown bugs the cough out of me.

Now when I try to take my avgeek hat off and try and view it from the "common person" point of view (like me wathing Border Security, when I bet customs people watch and are critical of that show too for various reasons) then it probably is fine. I mean the stories are general enough to keep interest and they don't care if it's QF3 or 93 or the routing of QF9 of it's a 330 or 737.. it's a plane.

Really it's the sort of fluff that is perfect for its initial (Friday night) time slot. It's not Breaking Bad or 4 Corners - and isn't trying to be.

I think it serves its purpose more or less. Drove me batty at times, but really that's just because I, like most readers here, fly a lot and know how it works and have more idea of what's what.

Other programs have done this sort of topic far better - as discussed - and if RFT gets a 2nd season I am sure they will learn and produce a better product but it wasn't absolutely horrible either.

Not that the inaccuracies bother me... but what is worth noting is the lack of attention by Qantas.

If the production team made an error - fair enough. They're probably not living and breathing planes and airlines. But this is a show about Qantas, which Qantas has promoted, which Qantas has given permission to film, and over which Qantas would have had some sort of review before it went out.

The fact that no one at Qantas bothered to pick up any of the inaccuracies, or picked them up but thought viewers were switched on enough to know otherwise, says something about the department responsible.

Agreed – that's the bit that strikes me as odd. If I was a brand manager for QF and someone showed this to me for approval, I'd certainly be pointing out errors such as those mentioned.

Perhaps it was presented to the producers and was ignored? We don't know the whole story, but I do genuinely believe it reflects poorly. We're a niche group, but not that niche. People know that small aircrafts (like 737s) aren't usually being flown to LAX.

+1 agree re the oversight of things. I also agree that there could be any number of things going on in editing and in between the process of getting the show produced, the dialogue(for voiceovers) written (and proofed, or not) and reviewed is probably tight. the LRE trip and QF 95th were pretty recent in terms of production and getting to air so I suspect time pressures as well.

It would well be that QF PR had a policy to not worry about the small details as long as the overall message (that QF is awesome, if you just ignore those fragile 380's) and everyone ends up (mostly) happy then it's all good.

I am sure Red Roo or others could tell us more about the behind the scenes process - that is in about 10 years if/when they leave the company and we meet them in a Star Alliance lounge somewhere far away from Mascot where a glass or 3 of something may help to jog memories :D

either way it's been a fun enough diversion and a bit of plane cough - better than another X factor talent show if you ask me :D

Decent show... Basically a 30min advert though.

I do prefer the Dubai Airport show.
