Record for most SCs in a year

1500 + 400 odd for me

So after months of denials, JohnK finally concedes he flies "just" enough to get and maintain WP.

Actually he flies "just" enough so he can report for duty when his employer requires him to do so. Getting or maintaining status is only a by product of that, the main game is putting food in his mouth.

You've been told this already and you've now been told this again. Your claim to not know JohnK's is wearing thin.

<snip>.
WP status is not as difficult to get as some people would like to think it is.

You're correct in the above statement, but as you noted it takes considerable cost (either by the individual or the business) to attain status the "easy" way.

It is difficult to achieve though if you're at the back end of the plane which is where the majority of fliers are.

Also, like a number of people on this forum I fly because my job demands it so I don't get a great deal of choice where and when I go. I do get the choice sometimes of who I will fly with (if the fares are comparable in price) and I will make my choice then based on QFF SC's or *A miles, depending on which will benefit me the most to achieve or retain status and therefore make my life marginally more enjoyable through preferred seating and lounge access.

If he chooses to live away from where he is employed (or required for work) then that is his decision but from reading his many posts, I have interpreted that getting and maintaining WP is his primary objective and now he has conceded that that is in fact the case. Why WP status is so important to him is a question only he can answer, but for mine, status is a byproduct of the flying you do and not the other way around. BUT... to each their own, so if thats what he wants to do, so be it.

and Medhead, Who the hell do you think you are 'telling' anyone anything?? I don't know JohnK and 'it' can wear as thin as you like.

Not really. I think it has been calculated that the "easy way" is about $3500-$4000.

Your second point is taken. The fact that you personally get the benefits of status and get to keep your points for all the travel you do on your employers dime, should not be taken for granted. But id bet my house that your employer would not send you on a trip for no other purpose than to acquire a few extra SC's to make WP, as some individuals do but claim not to.

wilco seriously, lay off about your attitudes to people who earn Platinum status. you sound worse than sour grapes.

1/ You have spent real $$ of your own with the airline - and hell.... If you're spending that much of your hard earned - you've earned the status.

2/ You're lucky enough to have someone else paying for you to travel long haul in premium cabins.... Lucky you :)

These are the points I was making. QF wants the passengers that buy the high yielding premium fares and the key word here is earn status. IMO, its not quite the same if you buy rather than earn your status (despite the same outcome)

Wilco you did comment so I was setting you straight.

I was not commenting on his need to fly but rather his need to maintain WP. BIG difference.

Yes Wilco out of Perth and doing no status runs on JASAs to MEL and SYD involves 15 sectors to maintain WP 1200 SCs.
I always thought that there were some very serious flyers out there and to have folks put pressure on 10000 SCs is pretty awesome.

...

and Medhead, Who the hell do you think you are 'telling' anyone anything?? I don't know JohnK and 'it' can wear as thin as you like.

I have experience with this.....

Medhead is Medhead when it comes to expressing opinions ;)

IME however - Medhead whilst passionate and firm in expressing his opinion - he can objectively argue the issue without playing the man.

This is why he has the respect of others.

Wilco - this is a frequent flyer forum.... Perhaps you found the URL confusing??

Some fly because they have to, some fly because they like to, and all of us are here because we like to make our travel more comfortable.

And yes - for many of us - that may mean optimizing our flying to ensure we receive the optimal benefits.

That you choose not to is your business - but I query why on earth you are here.

Out of interest - what is your business??

And lastly - you don't like when others play "you" rather than the argument (the 'ball')..... I suggest you follow your own advice.

I know I shouldn't feed the troll..... But he just looked so cute :)

And many people have told you your interpretation is wrong a number of times. You don't need to know someone to pick up the message that is being told to you. The fact that you continue with your wrong interpretation is beyond comprehension. It is pointless, offensive and wrong.

If you read JohnK's post you will see he has said nothing about the purpose of his flying. In fact he has clearly stated that he doesn't like to do extra unnecessary flying.

The fact that I get the benefits of status and get to keep the points is something that the company (or any company) shouldn't underestimate. These benefits are what makes travelling in Y more bearable and me more prepared to travel the amount I do for my employer.

If those benefits weren't there then I would be actively seeking alternative employment.

just to refresh what you said wilco:

your quote. As has been pointed out john flies weekly between SYD-BNE on mostly edeals as he is self funded. So on that alone he pretty much "just" gets WP. For all that flying, he would be mad NOT to tweak his flying to get the platinum benefits, wouldn't you agree.

Once again I have to question why you are even on this site when you seem to spend most of your time looking down and attacking people who "work the system" - in your interpretation - to get Platinum status. everyone else here doesn't care how people earn that status, the fact that they do is good enough for QF.

wilco seriously, lay off about your attitudes to people who earn Platinum status. you sound worse than sour grapes.
I didn't realise sour grapes sounded of anything??

The point I'm making is that there is a difference in earning Vs buying status. The ones that buy it seem to have a greater sense of entitlement and expect everyone else to think more highly of them because they are WP, when the reality is, no one gives a youknowhat. At the end of the day, I'm not interested who is what status and how they got it as it doesn't impact on me in anyway shape of form but I equally don't want to have it rammed down my throat when poor Mr (least entitled) Platinum didn't get his row 4 seat.

Now I know someone will come back with, WP is WP, and for most intents and purposes they are right. But what they forget is that "customer lifetime value" cannot be bought as cheaply as WP and Qantas are all over that.

I don't know how you can get Platinum for a few grand? Are you speaking about Any Seat Award tickets?

As far as my paid travel goes, I'd have to do 10 discount economy returns to London, for $20,000, 12 Ade-Syd-Cbrs at about $10,000, or 80 Red-Es between Syd-Ade-Syd for $10,000 to even re-qualify.

Since February 18th I've scored 1900SCs but I must have spent an equivalent amount in airfares.

well now you know what they sound lilke..

there is no difference between the two!

and would you lay off about Row 4! I do recall that thread was closed.

wilco I do honestly believe you are in the wrong forum, I'd suggest trying this site instead: click here

And the point everyone is making to you is that JohnK earns his status by doing flying that he needs to do. Take the message and stop destroying this thread with rubbish.

I have deleted a number of posts as they are unhelpful or quote deleted text, please try to stay on subject and not personalise the issue if possible (which may be hard given the thread is about personal flying totals!)

(sigh), just when it was starting to get interesting.....

Decent (not great) AA YUPP fares could get you 420SC for about $900each, so fly 3 of them and you'd be sitting on 1260Sc for $2700. Add a $1000 OZ-US special (120SC) and your almost there for $3700. Add a $59 LST (ex Mel) red e deal and voila... WP for $3820. Of course if you put some effort into it, you could find better YUPP fares and bring the total down a bit. Im not saying this is how everyone does it, but the possibility exists that a WP could spend less $$ than a PS. So at the end of the day WP aint that hard, expensive or special, and those that are WP and think their %$#& don't stink really need a reality check or an understanding that no one else cares.

there is no difference between the two!

There is a big difference. Despite having said that WP status is the same regardless of how it is achieved, until recently Qantas seemed to have no (public) way of determining a passengers value. Now it has and its called P1. Prior to that, we have speculated (and I'm pretty certain) Qantas did put a "value" on its passengers over and above their "status" so that not all WP's were created equal.

You are all supposed to be mature adults and yet you have nothing better to do with your lives than to chase some airline status and boast to your mates how important you are and always get to fly row 4 and somehow I'm the one that should go to the disney website? I think thats more up your alley......
