Red Roo - No more F to HKG = No more A380/Skybed Mark 1?

Red Roo - Simple question in the hope Qantas will treat its premium passengers who want to book F with respect - when will you announce intentions re HGK and F class?

As far as SYD-HKG goes - with VS now gone and QF cutting back on capacity and stopping F and Y+ seats the CX yield managers will be sending Xmas cards and gift baskets out to VS and QF management, if CX couldn't make $$ at that point then they never will.

Aus is probbaly CX's best market along with Canada/US. That's why they've maxed out their traffic rights and are asking for more.

Australia is far from their best market and load is below network average for them, they are feeling the impact of the Chinese.

O/T but is HGK and HKG interchangeable?

(Same argument as DBX and DXB isn't it)

No, he said the current orders for additional A380s and the QF-badged B787s would be held over until QFi returned to profit.

New 738s continue to be delivered to QFd.

IIRC, The 8 remaining A380 are still on firm order with deferred deliveries. 3 of the 14 788's for JQ have been deferred. The B789's are now only options

I think Red Roo is only allowed to answer the easy routine stuff these days. On contentious stuff, they've gone into hiding.

If no public announcement from the business unit (ie commercial) I wouldn't expect many companies social media teams to be commenting.

That said I think redroo's do a good job.

You have to spend money to make money. If they don't invest in new aircraft and building a solid route network, they may never return to profit.

I'm guessing the theory is - cut staff/cost in an attempt to be competitive....then start spending.

I actually think the 330 is a better sized aircraft for HKG and Asia overall (With the exception of NRT and maybe seasonal/summer BKK). A double daily refurb 330 from SYD (plus BNE/MEL) would do what CX can do - offer a consistent hard product.

I do agree that QF would be making a mistake without a small Y+ considering most (all?) of Asia-Aus flights are overnight
Fantastic news for me.

All routes to Asia on aircraft with 2 bulkhead aisles available for pre-allocation where as the 747 had at least 8 bulkhead seats available for pre-allocation. I couldn't care less about one skybed over the other or whether premium economy is available.

May have to look for suitable alternative.

Finally going to just fly Thai and be done with it?

Indeed they do a great job and I don't assign any blame to them. However it seems to me that their overall activity is down quite a bit. The same applies to VA's rep - maybe there's something going around!!

I made this table with the new A380 schedule on it from 29 October. If one A380 is always in maintenance it will only be possible for the A380s to fly to Hong Kong on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

My comment wasn't about red roo per se , it was about the respect ( or lack of it) to passengers, especially those trying to keep QFi alive. They would have to now what they are dong with Hong Kong, they could not have come up with the MEL/LHR retimings without working through the A380 issue and flow on effects. So, I am just asking red roo to address the lack of communication issues.

If QF decided Tues and Wed are the days SYD-HKG could live with an old 747 instead of an A380 I doubt they will now switch to exactly the opposite.

Does QF107 usually run as a 4-class nonrefurbed 747 or a 3-class refurbed 747? How many 4-class (non refurbed) 747s do QF have and what routes do they sell F on? Only SYD-HKG? (I know they're subbed occasionally onto routes where F isnt sold like JNB). Are they 4 class nonrefurb i.e. they have Y+ or just old F/J/Y?

QF are in an interesting position in that they seem to actually be short both A380s and refurbed 747s. They need A380s to compete with CX on SYD-HKG (and I guess start to consider whether BNE-LAX should be upguaged) and they really need refurbed 747s on routes where they can beat their competition by having a better product (such as SYD-NRT).

Yes the refurbed A330s will start to come online next year but it will be years before they are all done (and they won't be used on routes to the US) but QF are in quite a bind for the next 12-18 months as they try and compete with inferior products.
