First flights are today.

Meanwhile, their latest media attempt is having John out and about urging people to "give Rex a go."
Rex Chairman the Hon. John Sharp AM has thanked the hundreds of passengers travelling on its inaugural services for their patronage, and urged Australians to “give Rex a go”.
"We are delighted you chose to fly with us today and we hope you and many more Australians will give Rex a go because we are delivering more competition, all you have to do is support us."

I booked tonight's flight (PER-MEL) during the $99 sale last week, there were not many seats taken then but the plane is looking pretty full now (eyeballing 70% full in Y) - and I presume most passengers will be randomly allocated seats on check in (for those who have not yet).

I look forward to tonight's flight, I do wonder if there will be a (figurative or literal) song and dance or if it is too late at night. I recall Rex having a bit of a celebration on previous inaugurals. T2 is going to be an interesting place this late at night.

did you try a ‘bid for upgrade’?

Yes. It's still going - stayed up till midnight last night for nothing (after reading the BidUp thread and them clearing at T-24)! Apparently 5 seats, 8 bidders and ExpertFlyer shows an empty J cabin (or did last night). Guess I will have to wait until T-3.

Good luck!

Will be interesting to see what a successful bid might be.

Well it appears the flight to Adelaide has got off on time (close enough) on the NJE E190.

I had a burning question on the plane today, is the Melbourne 737 flight using Terminal 1 or 2?

The inaugural ADL-PER flight just pushed back. Looking at the seat map, it's pretty empty. Around 30-40 passengers.
Bit of competition on this route, with Virgin at 3 Daily, and Jetstar upgraded exclusively to A321Neo.

They will win on price only on this route. $149 with baggage seems ok comparing to the others.

Until they bump up frequency they will need to rely on price to fill anything.

VA2 run their A320 “Hellships” on this route don’t they? Wonder how the Rex offering will stack up v their main competitor VA2…

VA may well have the Soviet era aircraft. Rex's trouble is that they have soviet era marketing.
Website is terrible also. I was looking at some prices on my mobile device, it kept bouncing me back to that stupid capcha graphic box thingy. I clicked all the right boxes but it then just kept giving me new pictures.

I don’t know many airlines that require me to select all the boxes that resemble a bridge or fire hydrant when trying to make a booking. Rex needs to spend some coin on a decent digital team.

Can almost live with the captcha. But have you tried checking-in?? You still need to give them all sorts of details like phone number, contact email and postcode as part of their ‘covid’ protocols. My details are in the booking already… and VA/QF/JQ no longer require any additional data during the check-in process.

Good luck!

Will be interesting to see what a successful bid might be.
Thanks! To quote myself in the other thread:
Inaugural PER-MEL tonight, with the number of bidders and maximum bid jumping around (up and down somehow), my bid was eventually accepted at T-2:45 for $147.
Perhaps I will see someone from this thread there? Fingers crossed it does go and relatively on time. The plane is on its way over :)

slightly OT: With REX's share price falling below 0.60 to 0.59, surely either their Private Equity funder/co-owner PAG (or a competing Private Equity firm) may be running the ruler for a takeover bid. Can't see Bain getting involved with REX due to their ongoing Trade Sale negotiations and IPO preparations for VA.

Back on topic, REX's 'soviet era' marketing isn't going to help them on their ADL-PER route in the short term (if at all) which is operated by one of the subsidiaries (NJE) on a regional jet. As for MEL-PER, I'd tip they'd be running the books on whether operating a BNE redeye from PER may be next along with at least getting MEL-PER to daily.

how was business class? Was there an enhanced meal service, or the standard hot main + hot bread roll + chocolate + pudding?
