Rex to launch Melbourne/Adelaide-Perth routes

Let’s see if VA matches. They have always previously
Yes, I am waiting to see. Happy Hour this afternoon, hopefully will be home in time to check it out. Though I've already booked for July/August anyway...

This will be a massive loss-making exercise for REX. They will not capitalise on the sale fares without an email marketing campaign. (Quite bizarre that as a REX FF I've never received a single marketing email?)

With the lack of food items on their buy-on-board menu, I don't see why anyone would choose to book REX on a 4hr transcon flight. If VA matches the REX sale fare it will be a bloodbath... half-full aeroplanes at $99 a seat!

Virgin would only match on the one red eye if they did, historically they have only matched similar timings with Rex.

It's in their media release?

They've matched.
Hmm, paid $305 for a flight in July. In theory I could cancel, and be $106 ahead. Likewise used points for a flight a few days later, cancel and take the red eye the night before is tempting (not that I need the points)

I’d probably prefer the E190 for ADL-PER, but MEL-PER is a no brainer here. Thanks VA!

Just booked MEL-PER return on VA. They are only discounting the similar timings to Rex, but Fly Ahead alone was a good enough reason to book the VA tickets over Rex. At least I can move to some more reasonably timed flights on the day.
