RSA MEL F Lounge Qantas Official Response (Refused Drinks)

I do believe the spa treatment slots have always been given as priority to actual F passengers, while others on a "space available" system.

Indeed AusBT seems to agree

QF81 doesn't have any F pax.

Qantas First Lounge spa: new treatments, more preflight pampering - Australian Business Traveller

(I am unable to find in a quick search an actual policy on this on the QF website though)

Certainly I've always had a phone call the day before asking if I want to book a spa time. Amusingly the last time I was flying in QF F and got the call prior to QF9 last year when I checked in at MEL the staff there again said "Are you SURE you don't want a spa treatment this evening sir?" which was quite funny. That's not my cup of tea personally so I politely declined.

Yes, only F pax can book ahead, but once you are in the lounge "anyone" should be able to book free slots, first come, first served. That's been my experience when there courtesy of WP status.

I've also had MEL staff wandering round offering treatments (again I'm there as a WP) - I've assumed that the spa people get paid by the lounge per treatment, so they were drumming up business :) .

But apparently JQ pax are again discriminated against (I have to admit I think JQd pax should feel very lucky to be admitted, but if they are admitted, then they shouldn't be treated differently from any other lounge guest).

That's actually the last thing I was hoping for. ;)

Happy to be on your wish list.... even if it was the last thing... ;)

Its ok though, cant please all the people all the time so no hard feelings this end... appreciate your comments all the same.

Hmm last month I was in SYD trying to get a spa appointment on a JQ flight (though it was international) when they mentioned they were "trying to look after the QF81 passengers first" and would get back to me. They managed to scrounge up an appointment for me, but not the Mr - and when I tried to give him my slot, the staff said I had to take it as I was "booked in". Discrimination against JQ AND the non WP guest?

Just to add more fuel to the fire :D
Did QF81 leave before the JQ flight? Maybe they were trying to sort out requests on a time priority and it just came out badly?

I'm in the MEL F Lounge next Sat evening. I will try to keep an eye out and see if I witness any of the special RSA service in action - including but not limited towards myself of course.

PF you should be our first test subject for a new challenge:

See how many drinks it takes to invoke the RSA, with the caveat you are OK to board your flight of course

Done 7 champers in the lounge myself, the the obligatory wine with each course once on board. Best way to fall a sleep for that long flight :)

That's definitely possible. I can't remember though I'm afraid. Mind you, I actually said I agreed with them that they should sort of the QF people first, then go onto partner airlines.

Couldn't even get a booking on a QF flight the other week...

I'll be there Thursday and I'm flying F, more than willing to give it a try ;). Though with my luck if I do I'll finally get a QF F flight with the Taittinger on board and have ended up consuming lesser alcohols in the lounge...and of course the Pol Roger SWC and Veuve Grand Dame are better as well!

I arrived on the MEL fLounge yesterday at about 11:50, departed about 14:10. In that time had 3 glasses of champagne, 1 red wine and 1 beer so would say no RSA. The longer was very empty. Was even offered a spa treatment which I declined. The spa lady looked disappointed as there was nothing for her to do.

But Buzzard, were you on JQd? I've been a few times to the MEL Flounge too this year and it's been fine. But I've not been on JQd.
