Ruminations from the Silver Muse.

I now got my camera out. With a decent zoom you get a good view of the race course from our room.

After breakfast I went for a long walk. When we stayed over the road at the Mayfair Apartments last Christmas it looked as though they were going to start building on the nearby vacant block. All that has happened though is a painted wall has gone up around it.

A few shots from my walk.

When I got back we went to a favorite of ours in the small plaza next to the hotel. The place is a cooffee place but has food as well. We love their mushroom and truffle pizza.
DSC03363.JPG

Back at the hotel when you walk in you pass their cafe called Craft. hence why the label on their huge croissants.

The day was the day for our visit to Terminal 21 to have our nails done. Mrsdrron had a pedicure and I a pedicure and manicure. You really feel good afterwards. The staff are perfectionists and they do a great job. Unfortunately my favourite wasn't there..
6 chairs in the room. Two of the other women were on their phones all the time, the other 2 didn't talk to the workers whereas we both did. 3 of the others left before we were finished. Two didn't tip, the other tipped 40 baht. As usual we tipped each of those who worked on our nails 100 baht. No wonder they remember us.

After that we went to another of our favourites Fuji a Japanese restaurant. Cheap but nice food. fried octopus, enoki mushrooms wrapped in bacon, sashimi salmon and tuna and eringhi mushrooms with garlic.

Happy hour that evening was fun. The weather put on a show. We had fortunately seen the rain coming and moved our table into a sheltered spot. We were joined by an Australian woman who lives in Hong Kong. In one of those co incidences she was born the day after our son.
So here is the weather.

After Happy hour I went for a walk as I hadn't done enough steps for the day. So the lights in the area. First the Kimpton.

DSC03384.JPG

Then the Kempinski with the pool in the middle.

And the little mall looking like they are preparing for a market.

Breakfast on the third day. Again a few different things. The roast was beef.
DSC03394.JPG

My usual favourite breakfast dish roast tomatoes madetheir first appearance alongside delicious chipotle potatoes.
DSC03395.JPG

But Kale french toast. no way.
DSC03396.JPG

And Flossed pork -pork flavoured fairy floss. I liked it.
DSC03397.JPG

And fried radish with egg. Another thing I liked.DSC03398.JPG

I always had the noodles. This day with lots of the mushrooms.
DSC03399.JPG

And a dish I didn't like fried boiled eggs in watery tamarind sauce.

After breakfast I went to the Royal Thai Air Force museum. I did go when here in December last year but I didn't know it was a public holiday. It is open every day except public holidays.. But it is free. Had to catch the Sky train there. 22 stations from Chit Lom at a cost of 47 baht - $A2. No worry about what station to get off as it's name is Royal Thai Air Force Museum station.
First a spirit house on the way to Chit Lom.
DSC03401.JPG

And now the Museum. A couple of galleries weren't open as they were obviously setting up for a function. Mostly well signed with adequate English.

I found it quite informative. Although the present king was in the Air Force it is his father who is honoured mostly here. Now known as King Bhumibol the Great -Rama 1X.
So the early days interspersed with a couple of cabinets of model planes.

Some served in the French Air Force in WW1. They went to learn to fly and flew sorties in the last year of the War.

A little more of the cooperation with the Japanese in WW2. This sign was in front of a mangled piece of metal.
DSC03428.JPG

And one of the tributes to the previous King. There was a student revolt in the streets that year and we arrived in Bangkok with tanks in the street. The King summonsed the Army Generals and the students to meet him and peace resulted.
DSC03430.JPG

That was the end of the first building. I saw an exit so out I went.
DSC03452.JPG

But there was a map of the museum and it turns out 4 more buildings. One was behind me connected by an appropriate method. So back in I went.
DSC03453.JPG

This room was being set up for a meal or refreshments. But more old planes.
DSC03454.JPG
DSC03455.JPG

Including a tiger moth.
DSC03456.JPG

One display was missing but was another Japanese gift.
DSC03458.JPG

And yet another Japanese purchase in WW2.

DSC03459.JPG

But at last an American bird.

And the last of the Museum. A nomad. The creature on the tail has a head very siniliar to a roo.

On my walk back from the station I nearly got hit by a tuk tuk. Didn't hear it coming as electric powered. But just as I reached the hotel noticed the security guard has a special one.
