Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

Thursday? What's happening Thursday?

Oh! I'm guessing I'll be seeing you in BNE ;)
Not flying this week and getting withdrawal symptoms so will try to use Anytime access. Either that or you may be able to guest me. ;)

All I'm saying is it's hypocritical to be one of the losers in the anytime access thread, and then come on here and be one of the gloaters.
I guess you are right.

My view is that whatever the "enhancement" I always respect those who consider that they have lost out on a benefit that they found value in.
I hate "enhancements" as much as the next person. We have lost some real good benefits the past 6-7 years.

Always happy to guest AFF family :)

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

It seems here (I'm guilty of it as well) that we're all too happy to advocate for and support the revocation of other's benefits but not our own. Human nature. IMHO I think that ATA should be a P1 benefit and with the whole anti-CL sentiment about ATA etc. I can tell you that of the maybe 50 CL members I know, not a single one would have a clue about ATA. They're either flying F on QF anyway, on a private jet or on F on another airline departing from another pier and therefore can't be stuffed.

I think that inherently, on a pure cost basis the cost - benefits for a JQ passenger flying on a cheap Y fare to DPS after having achieved WP through DSC promotions is more expensive for QF RE: the F Lounge than a CL controlling a multi-million dollar account who flies in high cabins mostly on QF.

I'm with you on this point - all too often the discussions on AFF centre around the belief that a particular poster believes that he/she has got to WP/P1/CL/etc. the "right" way, and sees that others are cheating the system. Then they get upset because they see that other people getting the same thing is a dilution of their benefits. This is centred around the idea that the poster in question is at the centre of the universe, and that an airline is entirely there to serve your needs/wants and your needs/wants only.

I've never seen it this way. I don't get off on the exclusivity component. I treat this as I enjoy flying and I wish that everyone could fly with status, because it's awesome fun.

The fact that others also get a similar benefit means that I'm happy for them, excited even. I don't see that others have to lose in order for me to win.

In August.

Qantas Previews New A330 and B717 interiors

It was also discussed here, but I'm too lazy to search.

Thanks, no mention of HNL there just that they will retire the 767 fleet by mid 2015. That probably means that the 767's will be flying to HNL until at least mid 2015 given that for the past 20 years QF has always used it's oldest coughpiest aircraft to HNL and got away with charging full $$$ without providing hard product of a quality consistent with the rest of their international service. AMAZING really. BUT, small compensation is OWE's do get F lounge access at SYD

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

The outstanding Melbourne and Sydney First lounges are, in my opinion, one of the last remaining true differentiators for Qantas over other carriers. To remove access for Emeralds - even if 'just' Qantas Emeralds - would be phenomenally disappointing and is, I hope, not being considered. I also think Qantas would suffer enormous criticism if it was to go down the line of AA and remove access for its own Emeralds but, in line with oneworld policy, allow it for other carriers' Emeralds.

From my perspective, it would see me divert the great majority of my points earning to AAdvantage, not just those flights post the 1200 SC mark.

I hope it's all an ugly rumour with no substance. Perhaps, if we're really lucky, the rumour might be a bit of a Chinese whisper: everyone except F passengers and CL members will be happy.

Not to continue going off topic too much, but I believe the gist is they start refits and get a/c back from JQ to replace the 767 so HNL gets a refitted A330 from late 2014 - but more likely 2015.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

It's because QF's "repudiations" have a habit of unwinding. They deny that it is happening, but not that they have it under consideration.

Probably because, in a large organisation, there's always lots of options being continually evaluated. And even if they managed to survey every relevant department, every external consultant they had in, every management meeting, to ensure that it wasn't being evaluated or discussed today (so as to issue a comprehensive denial), doesn't mean someone isn't going to start looking at it next week

I suspect that the rumours may even start with QF so that they can gauge the reaction and tweak what they have planned to try and lessen the outcry. Take ASA's for example.

That's giving too much credit. In large organisations, the reality is far more prosaic

I'd like to believe otherwise, but it is turning out that they are a devious lot who talk with forked tongue.

It's called CYA. When official representatives start posting things, it starts to be taken as the official corporate line and not private banter. So, you simply can't expect candid discussions or exchanges of viewpoints.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

I know you organised one of these last week and it was probably a lot of fun but I think there was way too much exposure on AFF.

We were a pretty small group, and I don't think we would have prevented anyone else from enjoying their visit to the lounge...

The current situation is that the highest status AAdvantage members do NOT get F Lounge access when flying JQ. And it doesn't get you lounge access in the US. It is much easier to attain Emerald wirh QF. My preference is to fly QF, not JQ. I don't understand why you want to move to AA.

Totally understand and I am sure you were all well behaved.

My point is plastering the event all over AFF. Isn't that sticking it to Qantas?

How is it sticking it to QF? We played by their rules. And they certainly earnt a few $$ off us.

Look what we can do? Especially the 2 wake threads.

Perhaps you are right and I am seeing totally wrong.

An example of clear thinking !

Their burn rates are relatively excellent though. Guess it's just $$ being burnt in a different way.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

Also I don't think the rumour about the spa would really make money for QF, if it were to just be spa access limited only to F/CL. Reason being those groups already get to book 24 hrs in advance, with WPs not flying F having to rely on their luck on the day. QF has to pay the therapists to be there anyway, so it makes sense to use them to make more passengers happy if after the F/CL preference there are still slots available. For example I did a SYD-HKG JASA on a Saturday connecting from Melbourne. That flight leaves around 0930 and I only got to the lounge around 8ish, and the spa was wide open despite the high number of Int services leaving SYD (and hence chance of F or CL being around).

Considering you have mentioned on numerous occasions thar you hang around lounge entrances selecting random strangers to guest into lounges then yes you are seeing totally wrong. If im not wrong you started an entire thread boasting about it. Isnt that sticking it to Qantas? Hypocritical much?

It's a great way of encouraging people to get status really, I only decided to fly QANTAS and go plat after a guest pass lounge entry. I don't think JohnK is sticking it to QANTAS by giving them free publicity.
