Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

Hello

I just joined this group as I saw this chat referenced on the frequent flyers australia facebook group I am a member of. This is my first post so forgive me for interrupting a more than lively chat!

Here goes - regardless of what is being said here, an acquaintance who is "in the know" (very "in the know") has confirmed this to me just last night when we were having dinner and generally chatting. The comment was passed that this although not being instigated till April/May 2014 (with some other changes that are NOT going to be LIKED by all but Chairmans Lounge and F travelers) regarding the flagship Qantas lounges.

I am just the messenger - don't kill me!

:)
Welcome to the board :). . You will find people very nice here and happy to discuss information. Sometimes people can get aggressive but it is rare in my experience and so much helpful advice.

Your comment is obviously quite intriguing and such a long time to wait. I am surprised there hasn't been a great deal of guessing as to what the changes might be....

I quite like the spa and dining in the F lounge although both are easily obtainable at destinations. The main problem I have with the F lounge these days is how busy it is. When we went to Hong Kong in August it was very hard to find a seat after we came out the Spa and I waited 45 minutes for a waiter to come and ask if we wanted anything and finally went and found one and asked very politely for a glass of bubbly - when it was brought it was dumped on the side table in a rather surly manner. I didn't mind as the staff are really run off their feet - maybe I should have gone to the bar and fetched it myself? not sure what the protocol is..... Anyway if Qantas had spare money (which it doesn't), what I would like is access to be left the same, so WPs get all the perks they used to, but a small lounge created where F and CL could go which was nice and quiet. No frills just a quiet haven for a drink before the flight.....

won't be too long to wait... notice period would see an announcement in 7 weeks or so.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

Agree

I'd even start flying Virgin again!!

That's my plan. I reckon QF WP/VA nothing beats QF SG/VA SG with these options available. But for primarily domestic travel, if the Flounge privilege for JQi domestic flights goes, QF SG/VA SG is infinitely more appealing. In fact, QF WP seems to have no significant advantages at all without this perk unless flying internationally.

But I have a couple of months left before making those calls. Hopefully we have resolution about it by then.

I don't think they are under any obligation to give notice regardingt access to the spa, they can do it at a moments notice

I would suggest the domestic J lounge access is a rather significant advantage when flying domestically.

It really depends what sort of reduction in benefits is being discussed. I can't imagine they'd be able to shut off F lounge access (as OWE) at all, but they'd have to give 3 months notice at least to stop JQ pax from using it. If all they're changing is what you can use once you have access, they can do that tomorrow. :p

I would trade all of this lounge baloney for a decent J seat to HNL, and maybe some upgrades to the fleet and inflight service in general.

You're getting that towards the end of 2014 with the A330 cabin refit and refresh for J/Y.

Was recently in 1st Lounge Sydney on Sat morning 9am/10.30am, we had no problems getting a table. In HKG hardly anyone in the Qantas 1st lounge 2 hours before 3 QF flights departed, went to CX 1st Pier lounge many there, but also no probs. in dining or lounge. I'd guess they all get busy at times but not for us.

Over the Qantas Club? I think I'd much rather have access to the QC when flying QF and the VA lounge when flying VA than the J lounge with Qantas and nothing with VA. Wouldn't everyone?

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

Posting from FLounge right now and can confirm that staff now asks which airline you are flying while taking your order.

Sitting down at the dining tables? Do you have to show them a boarding pass? I think that was like that in the past.

FWIW I have never been asked to ask which airline I am flying ordering meals at the bar or while I am seated at desktops. I guess that may have changed.

On my last 2 visits I was asked which flight I was on, not which airline. Did not have to show BP.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

It's hard to interpret this quote ... but my guess is that the spa will be for F pax and CL only. Like they have in some other F lounge spas around the world...

This is pretty much the case already. F (maybe CL too?) get a call to pre-book. The rest get to use the spa if there is any vacancy on the day. So I can't see why they would change it?

I'm sure you realise that with your flight number they can work out what airline your travelling on? ;)

Of course, but I was not asked which airline :)

Does that mean you could lie and they wouldn't question it, so long as you know your boarding time?

Slightly OT but excuse me for  out loud. That has been the rumour every year since about 2007 but it's still clunking old 767.

What, in Britain :?: c'mon :!:

Dunno. If they dish out invites like QF - Premier will be chock-a-block with glorious politicians and over achievers from HMCS

So you are saying the rumour didn't come true?
How can we take rumours seriously from now on?!

I mean restrict all spa treatments in general to a certain group. eg TG F lounge in BKK - only F pax can get a treatment (booked on the day AFAIK). Same with BA Elemis spa - have to be flying J/F or BA Gold flying longhaul.

I got to SYD at about 3.30ish for QF21 (a 9.30pm departure at the time) and they almost didn't believe me when I told them!
