Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

The WP's & P1's who visit the QF F lounge are the same ones who you see in other J & F lounges.
Their behaviour doesn't change once they bought a JQ ticket.
How would staff in Frist lounge (apart from reception) know which carrier a passenger was flying?

How would staff in Frist lounge (apart from reception) know which carrier a passenger was flying?

When they either saw or asked to see (as was always the case in QF 1st lounges) the pax's boarding pass when they ordered food?

Boarding passes on tables. The old process where you had to show your BP when ordering. It is possible.

They ask what airline you are flying they dont ask for a boarding pass, or at least they havent in my last 6 or so visits. you could lie if you feel uncomfortable and you think you might be being judged and you can't cope with that.

Posting from FLounge right now and can confirm that staff now asks which airline you are flying while taking your order.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

They've always done that. I first used the SYD F lounge in 2008 and was asked this question when being served then. I believe it's done so they know how long they have to serve you before your flight is called for boarding.

I've only been twice, but both recently. Was not asked on either occasion.

Can't recall ever being asked in over 30+ visits.....could be a BP on the table thing however, thats a little misleading when you get issued a QF BP in BNE for a CX flight ex-SYD;)

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

JQ is not always cheaper. Having flown MCY-SYD-MCY weekly for 4 years JQ can be hundreds more than QF.

I said that I believe the reason pax fly JQ is because they are cheaper then QF.
When JQ is equal or higher in price on the same route and at the same time would you still choose them over QF?

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

Never been asked on any of my visits either. Can't see why it's relevant unless they're charging the actual costs to the individual airlines.

Hell no!

Or using it for analytical purposes...

As mentioned, a perfectly logical reason would be so they can serve you in time for boarding

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

I think if QF are having issues with the profitability of the F lounge and cost constraints then I would like to see them taking steps to ensure that a quality of service is maintained for the HVC who are in essence the intended market for the lounge. I am hoping that it doesn't come to it, but I think QF is going to need to rethink their lounge access arrangements etc. I think that lounge access should only be for WP travelling in J or F and then WP1, CL and F.

If you use JQ's Price Guarantee they wouldn't be higher in those circumstances but 10% less.

Big problem with that change is that it is in breach of One World policy.
The F Lounge would need to be re-branded as a CCR type lounge and excluded from OW access and to be honest I don't think the J lounges could cope with all the OWE that would then be using them.

If there needs to be any changes to F Lounge access then I think it would be better if QF stopped any time access for CL and pax on JQi domestic flights unless connecting to a OW int flight.

Umm. How about when they check the boarding pass at the front desk when entering the lounge.

Perhaps the better thing to do would be to ban JQ entirely? Do a similar thing to what they do with FJ and NF where you need a QF designator. Sell JQ flights to destinations where QF doesn't fly and charge a premium for the QF flight number but include the ability to use lounge access benefits etc

Could be done quietly and without a fuss. Apply that rule to OWE/WP and CL/WP1 get access regardless of QF or JQ. I think you'll reduce the number of cheap ticket passengers.

I think we both know the outcome of that, unless those tickets sold with a QF designator also earned points/SC, included luggage and possibly even food (or at the very least allowed you to purchase these extras easily... which you cannot currently do if booking JQ as part of a QF itinerary) then the whole idea would fall flat, they'd receive a drop in patronage and might lose customers to competitors or partners. While that may not be JQ's market, if those customers see what it's like on the other side, they may not come back to QF... so they've got to be very careful what moves they make.

There are some important strategical considerations here:

- The #1 benefit of Platinum is access to F lounges/check in
- Accessing F lounge on a cheap JQ flight is not cheap for everyone. Let's consider some AFF do's - the last time I did this flight it was $650 in flights alone, all on QF/J*
- People aspire to get Platinum and spend meaningless $$$ flying to QF during that time. Without #1 benefit a lot of these would drop off (and also their CC points to QFF, their partner and so on...)
- The First lounges are not designed to be profit centres even though they may produce nominal revenues. It's the halo affect this has on the rest of the business that brings everything together and makes QFF work like a well oiled machine.

As pro-AFF members I am - there is one simple mod I think JQ/QF could make here.
- Make it no lounge entry at all on any JQ ticket (similar to JQ biz tickets) unless you pay for the add on (I can hear those hearts sinking ...sorry guys but it's true)

This means additional revenue that JQ could pass on to QF!
It would also mean price matched tiger tickets won't get you lounge access...

As for F lounge crowding... I've only had issues during school holidays. Kids take up more than 1 seat in the lounge..!
