(rumour) QFi to withdraw from Perth

This rumor is most interesting as I've personally not seen the load factor for the QF PER-SIN flights go under 65-70% for years. I'd be more inclined to say that its average would be hovering around the 80-90% mark. (Speculative based on my own observations, so I cannot verify)

Inbound has deteriorated a little bit over the past few months... as seen by the OMG o'clock arrivals.

In the last few weeks I've done SIN - PER 3 times:

1. QF 00:40 arrival time
2. QF 04:40 arrival time
3. SQ 14:40 arrival time

Add the QF68 arrival from HKG into there at 04:55 and your starting to see a pattern!

But what has surprised me is the number of domestic transfer passengers now coming of the QFi flights from SIN and HKG. I believe there were over 250 between just the two 04:40 and 04:55 QF flights a couple of days ago.

The arrival times for the SIN – PER flights on QFi make it impossible for me to fly with them.

I am currently planning a one-way flight from SIN to PER in early February and have narrowed the search down to TT for $155 or SQ at $740. Otherwise, I have to connect through DPS, KUL, CGK or BKK.

TT looks an uncomfortable front runner at this stage.

When 1 SIN - PER flight lands at 01h40 and the other 04h40 and QF wonder why the loads are low! Especially the pointy end.

If QF pull out of Perth how am I going to use all my QFF points. Jetstar to Bali  Yuk!

I'll leave you to guess who is my new best friend for this trip. As I said in my last post - Qantas aren't making it easy to support them in Perth.

The J-class seat map for my QF72 (SIN-PER 23:30-04:40, duration 5h 10m) next month (August) shows just 3 other seats occupied! And the meal is still indicated by Qantas as "Lunch". Who would want to travel such at such incredibly horrible times? I'm actually doing SIN-PER-MEL (via PER was all that showed up when booking) and am hoping to change to the SIN-MEL non-stop (or SIN-SYD-MEL would be better).

After Qantas cut back Intl services between... well everywhere... and Sydney/Melbourne, the SIN-PER route how has a lot of FF redemption pax and staff pax who have no other option to get back from Asia. That could explain the high number of connecting domestic pax.

flying JQ to singapore on the 31st aug then QF to singapore on the 21st september. Have the late 1150pm flight back on the 24th. Be interesting to compare the two. Ive sine changed to predominatley using krisflyer now so any future trips will be on SQ.

Im not a fan of the new Sing - Per times. Last time i flew QF to SG from PER was Sept last year. Had the better times then. Used the 3pm flight out and 9am flight back.

i guess if they pull from perth, with regards to getting to euro from perth it will be jetstar to sg and qantas from there? sorry if its been stated didnt read the pges 2-6

If this is true then QF can stick it all, the QF/AY PER to HEL works really well for me.

I think for a lot of people, this would be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Probably a codeshare service with Qatar.

QFi to be based in PER, all east coast routes will require transit through PER. New Direct flights from PER to Malaysia, India, Thailand, Africa....

Damnit I just woke up....

Perth in 2012 is a boom town for air travellers. Try the domestic terminal in the time slot of 5am to 7.30 ami if you dare.
Connecting to international flights for Qantas International out of Perth has been an after thought for our Sydney centric Qantas management even though Perth would be a big profit centre right now. We need to get a couple of Perth folks to get onto the Qantas board to reposition their thinking.

It is because of you East Coast types these times exist in PER. QF is built around the Kangaroo route, not Asia. Leave the East Coast at a reasonable time of day. Allow plenty of time for seasonal headwinds in the schedule, depart SIN between 2300 and 0000 for LHR/FRA/CDG/HEL. Coming back the same deal. So yes you get in at OMG in the morning, but that is only because Perth is that much closer to SIN when slicing and dicing passengers ex Europe. You should try living in DRW. MI departs DRW at 0250 to allow connections to Asia, and while JQ departs at a civilised 1820 to hook up with European connections, the return flight gets in at a truly uncivilized 0400ish (I've not met a person who has gotten here on time) before flying on to either CNS or MEL.

All the more reason why Qantas needed to setup their own carrier in Asia to service Asia. It would have provided more opportunities for more flights at more civilised times. But no people were worried about offshoring of jobs and not looking at it as a strategy to increase passenger numbers out of Australia.

As has been said many times before single destination routes out of Australia from every capital city don't work for airlines based here due to our location, population density and the number of destinations people want to travel to. The choice is simple, which is make a flight to a location where they can do this (Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Malaysia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi etc). That leaves Qantas with flights to London, LA, Hong Kong and the odd point to point route that does work.

The reason it didn't happen was that management of qantas couldn't make it happen for commercial reasons. Nothing to do with offshore workers.

Really, so the relentless bad press, the industrial action from pilots etc had nothing what so ever to do with it?

I few Per-Sin and back on SQ in J last month. Both time cabin was full. 772 up and 773 down.

The guy I sat next to ex-Sin 09h30 departure SQ223 had just come from London. QF didn't offer him a connection to Perth for 14 hours! SQ was 3. Hence he flew SQ all the way.

That's rather odd considering the first Qantas flight from London arrives in Singapore at 5:30pm and the first flight to Perth leaves at 7:30pm and the second flight from London arrives at 6:40pm with the flight to Perth at 23:30. So don't see how this 'story' could be true.

Not odd at all, your assuming he was flying QF to SIN, then trying to connect, obviously the person caught another service that got him into SIN early AM (SQ317). Previously there was a flight with similar timings that connected nicely to PER, I used to catch the day flight to PER myself then connect through to BNE to avoid a night flight!

Yeah I didn't ask his exact itinery - it was just a comment in passing.

I often used to take QF7* (can't remember exact #) ex-Sin at 09h05 I think it was to Perth. Always seemed quite full and landed around 14h15 in Perth I think. Quite civilised!

Maybe J was just full on QF. Maybe he could only leave London after a certain time and QF didn't match his needs. I have a one hour connect LHR-SIN-PER later in the year, maybe that was offered and he wasn't comfortable with it. (I'd be worried about it anywhere other than SIN)
