(rumour) QFi to withdraw from Perth

Bearing in mind, for the consumer, more than one option is a good thing for multiple reasons (price and schedule being two of the biggies). So AMS, CDG etc keeps CX "honest".

For the consumer (who is already well looked after) or the loyal QFF member? MH's presence in oneworld won't necessarily keep CX "honest", in the same way that TG doesn't necessarily keep SQ "honest" in star.

<snip>

But guess the Qantas bashers won't like that because they want Qantas to fly them from their little towns to any destination in the world.

I recently gave MH a go - with one-eye on their imminent OW affiliation. What I didn't like (Y):

1) the same grotty "chicken roll" snack served on 4/4 sectors.

2) the obvious penny-pinching with respect to pitiful quantity of liquids served, lack of water runs etc

3) the award winning, sliding, ergonomic Y seat on the A330 - which kept me awake all night

What I liked:

1) KUL as a transit airport - even between terminals

2) Midnight departure to Asia - allowed me a full day's work before heading to MEL.

Regards,

BD

I agree that MH can get quite boring with Y food ex-KUL. It seems that things don't change that often in that regard.

I don't agree with the lack of water runs, in fact I have found MH to be the opposite, bringing drinks around several times on each flight. They have always been happy to oblige for the extra Pepsi or drink if asked.

Forgive my ignorance, but if QF sign a codeshare agreement with QR, how much revenue do QF get, if any, from a passenger flying the QF codeshare on QR metal?

Think about it: Fastest growing area of the country, lots of people with high disposable incomes, short and medium hops to some of the fastest growing cities in the world. If Alan Joyce cant screw that up no one can.

Add the QF68 arrival from HKG into there at 04:55 and your starting to see a pattern!

You scared me for a while there because I was looking to book myself into this flight next Easter! After Oct this year it seems that QF68 is moving to a more reasonable time at 2230 to 0620 arrival!

Hey Casanovawa,

I remembered reading about how codeshares work, in detail somewhere... and the best I could find was this post from a fairly reputable source on FT.

FlyerTalk Forums - View Single Post - how does a codeshare work exactly (under the surface)

The upshot is there is no way of really knowing the exact figures but how its explained above makes a little bit of sense  (to me at least)

If I lived in PER and was doing a trip to SIN or HKG the last thing I would want to do is fly 5 hours to BNE to get on another plane for 8 hours to SIN when you can do it in app 5 hours from PER. I was thinking that maybe QF might change the schedule to all Johannesburg flight stop in PER.

Best to drink booze in those circumstances.

But there are limited offerings of that variety or generally anything of quality in the F & B larder.. & even if so the crew are 'non versed" at wine knowledge & matching as well.. Perhaps.. BYO.. ?

You could always take the 8.30 QF to DRW, then hang around until 18.20, and take "QF" flying JQ metal to SIN. :) If you make it to connect with other flights in SIN during the wet season consider yourself blessed by the airline gods!

It would also come at a huge dollar value cost for the domestic flight to DRW then onto SIN would be a lot more expensive than a QFi flight from PER direct to SIN.

I had a look at QFi web site and see the price is app $300 to nearly double the current cost with a direct flight

So very true! But the 'Captain" AJ that steers the ship:
1. Lives on the East Coast - perhaps SYD centric
2. Hasn't yet recognised that Australia is a large country with lots of wonderful capital cities & airports to service the documented growth for the Asia Pacific Region aviation sector
3. Appears so egotistical that he knows best - without consulting with the general consensus & obvious growth sectors including PER - DOM & INT & so many others
4. Worships the fragmentation & demise of QFi & the ever growing trend of ' Jetstarisation" of most sectors
5. Seems to holds pessimistic future value for Qantas & its wonderful iconic reputation & employees
6. Certainly not overly endearing towards any of the QF customers & long term hard working employees
7. Guess.. He feels.. that it only a 'Short Term Gig" Collect the 'loot" & the 'train wreck" will be left for others to repair..
- Just some thoughts

But where do they want to go to? My bet is, like the rest of the country they want to go to more than Singapore or Hong Kong.

With the talk of an emirates deal, maybe they'll drop PER and just code share on EK to DXB.

Unless they earn a decent amount out of each passenger they codeshare on EK or QR etc, i thought an airline was actually meant to make money flying people to where they want to go...

And as I and others have mentioned WA are right on the door step of SEA, South Asia, the middle east and FWIW Africa, plenty of affluent, fast growing cities in that region, plenty of people earning a decent buck in WA and not all want to fly LCCs (but fair enough if quite a few do at least to Bali), plenty of mining and gas and energy comapnies here and in ME and possibly in Africa in the future, plans for a redeveloped airport on the drawing board... And plenty of other airlines that seem to be able to make it work...

Maybe they could work that out here in Perth about where we are wanting to go and devised a strategy of making it work rather than just giving up the market entirely to others if that is what is being considered... Even if its just sharing in the traffic to hubs as far as DXB or DOH and letting the ME carriers fly them on from there rather than handing the market over completely...

+1 - I still think QF will maintain PER-SIN though, at least at 1 flight per day. HKG can be dropped though (2-3xwk vs. 10+ on CX.....)

Whether it's PER or elsewhere how can CX, SQ, EK et al keep on finding the business case to increase capacity to Oz, while the diminishing QFi can't?
I just don't get it

The perception of a greater network. EK - Europe and Africa, SQ - Europe, Asia, CX same.

The other thing is there is a lot more advertising from the foreign airlines coming into PER then there is QF. EK have their ads on bus stops and on the outside of buses, NZ are doing the Bus stop ads, QR are fairly aggresive lately with their newspaper adds. QF does target TV and e-mail, but compared to the others you don't see any physical ads around town.

As an aside, is there a thread on pprune or a link to where these rumours have started?

When 1 SIN - PER flight lands at 01h40 and the other 04h40 and QF wonder why the loads are low! Especially the pointy end.

If QF pull out of Perth how am I going to use all my QFF points. Jetstar to Bali  Yuk!

I intend to use my points using other airlines like CX they have a must better product out of Bangkok!
