MIA now.

Have stayed at the new Rydges Airport Hotel few times, had parking view, rooms good size, big shower, nice bar ground floor with pub food, its just so handy to Int. terminal..

A few posts have been pruned due to an abrupt veering off-track. Please keep to the topic which is:

  • Rydges Sydney Airport.

You brought the airport trolley into your room? :o

I came from domestic. Someone else staying on my floor brought it from international and asked me if I want it because he is going to the city in the morning.

Have not stayed at the airport Rydges.
If its not too off topic, Mrs GPH and I , on holiday in NZ with the wee Grandies, stayed at Rydges in Rotorua .
And while this is not a 5 star hotel, we Joined the club and I would have to say was very pleasantly surprised by the whole experience.
HUGE room ( with second bathroom, just a jacuzzi ) the Grandies had a ball in that one)
The room rate with membership discount was great, the Grandies eat free ( I think it's free for under 10's) and while I never usually eat in house, and avoid buffets like the plague, this was a great experience all round.
On the strength of this , Mrs GPH has booked a series of Rydges properties for our quick trip to NZ ( Christchurch, Tekapo and Queenstown ) for next week. And again in ADL for the AFF Barossa tour in August. I shall make a point of reporting back

Staying there Tuesday week reading ourselves for our flight to JNB...looks likely that we will have a nice evening meal and a good sound sleep...hope so...thanks RooFlyer for the update

Please do. I've only been to a couple of the specific Rydges you mention, but generally speaking I find them a bit all over the shop as far as standards go. Some Rydges are great, some are so-so, and some best avoided (my experiences!)

Arrived at 1.00 am Rydges CHC. our booking was stuffed up ( in spite of specific email exchange between Mrs GPH and the hotel).
Not off to a good start, Mrs GPH made a comment alluding to extra time standing around the foyer at 01.00.
The night manger managed to be patronizing and obsequious at the same time ( a rare talent) , in any event we made it to the room, hotel was being " Re Furb'ed) so hallways were smelling a wee bit of paint.
Room nice ( not what we booked) beds very comfortable. We stayed only the one night.
Would I stay again? Unlikely as I think there are more convenient options near the airport.
Drove that afternoon to Tekapo, stayed at the Peppers Resort. Very nice, we had a second floor unit, not ideal when lugging cases about.
Very nice , comfortable beds and a wide screen TV. Good kitchen .
Will definitely come back

Now in Queenstown, we cancelled the Rydges booking on the recommendation of a friend who is a Queenstown regular. Opted for the Crowne Plaza, closer in, and quite nice. Mrs GPH had a look at some of the feedback sites and felt there were too many poor ratings on the Queenstown property to risk 4 nights on it.
Would happily come back to Crowne Plaza in Queenstown.

I've got a night coming up here and am wondering what the latest feed back is on the dinner, a few people have said it was adequate more or less. If you've eaten here recently, os there anything recommended?

I'm trying to work out whether to take someone I'm meeting for dinner off site but nearby.

Did an overnight here last week, haven't eaten in the restaurant but have had food in the bar. Typical bar food, nothing special

We have eaten there on both occasions we have stayed. We have had guests both times.Felt it was quite reasonable. We do get the shareholder/plat discount for meals though.

We stayed there in August as had an early flight the next morning (domestic but the hotel provides a free shuttle so fine). The room was fine for the overnight, bathroom a bit odd but nothing you can't live with. Bar food was so so but we ate in the restaurant - the 2 course special whatever it was - and it was more than adequate. The restaurant did get pretty busy while we were there. We have usually stayed at the Stamford and IMO Rydges is much much better in terms of food, shuttle and location. Nothing much around that area for dinner if not at the hotel.I have no qualms about staying there again.

I'll be overnighting here this week, is it quite easy to find/get to if I take the train to Wolli Creek station and walk the ~2.2km to Rydges?

Getting off at Mascot Station is the easier option as I think it's best to take the route 400 (operating towards Burwood) bus and disembark at the international terminal and the Rydges will be directly behind the bus stop.

Just make for the i terminal as it is really just a cross the road. Pre order a room on the top floor. I didn't pay the extra $40 for a tarmac view and the view across over the car park was ok and had natural light enough for a few hours overnight. Not sure about that actuall walk though. There's a lot of nasty big roads around the airport.

It is easy to get to from Wolli Creek, just head out of the station and towards the I Terminal. Cross at the lights near Woolworths/Dan Murphy's and walk through the park and you'll come to the Mercure Hotel. Loop around the Mercure and onto the footpath that takes you over the bridge, at the other end there is signage to take you under the bridge and across a pedestrian crossing into/and across the airport carpark and Rydges will be on your left. While the park is well lit, not sure I would be walking through it alone late at night.
