Rydges Sydney Airport.

Stayed last Tuesday night with Jnr#1. It was fine for the overnight stay. Had a Parma in the sports bar and a complimentary drink (asked for Peroni and was told the choices were limited to only 2 or 3, one of which was xx_X - ewwww). I did get my requested room facing the airport, however it was floor 1 :/

Who the heck designed that bathroom? Looks nice, but the toilet situation is stupid and impractical. You certainly don't have to wonder what's going on in there....

Easy walk over the road to departures is the best advantage.

Returning to Perth after time in Fiji had to overnight due to curfew at Sydeny airport, I wasn't happy or unhappy about the hotel. Hotel was clean, received good service and room was adequete, saying that last flight in no food options, Macdonalds was shut, bar kitchen was shut, room was exteremly small and such a strange bathroom configuration and compared to other locations over priced but practical.

You've all convinced me, normally I go to the budget Ibis because I'm a cheapskate, but leaving from the international terminal makes the ~$70 difference seem smaller.

Rydes hotel is good. Very friendly and helful staff. Good luck with your stay.

I have a couple of single nights to book, but don't want to prepay. Is it generally safe to wait till a few days / a week in advance to book?

At what point does the prepaid option go off the menu?

How do they prove if a shareholder - special card? ;)

I have complained about the bathroom everytime I've stayed. the entire bathroom concept is ridiculous, there is no privacy AT ALL

Many hotels are building their bathrooms like this now. Langham Place Mongkok. (HK). The Crowne Plaza Airport Singapore. The hotel we are staying at in Dubai (5*) and even some cruise ships. I don't like them either. A solid door works for us.

I don't know about the rest of your questions but I can answer the shareholder one. There is a special card and you do get extra benefits like 20% off food. But if you join up to the "PGR" you get the same rate - which is the member rate quoted above, or
"Become a PGR member and get 10% OFF our LOWEST RATE every time...GUARANTEED"

We have stayed there 3 times now.

Thanks, I've stayed there a couple of times and it is so convenient, and I am a PGR member. The translucent bathroom is fine when travelling on yr own, just remember to lock the main room door.

We are here now and had dinner in the restaurant. It was very acceptable. For entree I had a seafood plate of 2 oysters, half a bug, 2 large pieces of smoked salmon and 3 prawns with salad. For main a large piece of grilled salmon. Meal price $50 and a couple of glasses of McLaren Vale shiraz at $11 each.

Received an email yesterday for online check in and I asked for a room with airport view. No problem...great view. At reception we received 2 vouchers for a drink at the bar and then received an email saying we could also select a small bar of chocolate from reception.

Great room, I have no problem with the bathroom. I would certainly stay here again. It is so convenient and a free regular shuttle from the domestic is also a winner.

Going back for a one night transit at the end of this month. We were happy with our last time so instead of heading to the city it is easier to stay at Rydges airport and then head over to the First lounge for breakfast then off we go.

We stayed there before heading overseas a couple of weeks ago. We had 4 rooms all on the same floor. Two had airport views, the others had what could be described as airport glimpses. We had driven from Canberra and were able to arrange (relatively) cheap parking in the carpark by booking the parking online ahead of time. The parking was very convenient to the hotel. It was great to be able to stroll out of the hotel in the morning and straight into the terminal without having to deal with shuttle buses or taxis. We had some drinks in the bar (mainly the free ones that they provided) and had dinner in the restaurant which was pretty good. We booked the hotel online and probably booked a bit early as the price that we paid for the 4th room (which we booked a week or so after the other 3) was substantially cheaper. Someone may be able to tell us what the optimal time to book is.
We are planning to stay there again when we go overseas later this year.

Major, did you pay extra for an airport view? Generally, it's around $179 for a non-view room.

No extra, just requested it when I replied to the check in email. They acknowledged this at reception. I paid $174 for a deluxe king when I booked last Sept.

I have tried that myself on past stays but they normally tell me I'd have to pay more money. Perhaps it's because I have no status.

Welcome to AFF :D

Yes, this place does seem to have things going for it more than just being convenient. Back in my accor days I used to walk from Intenrational across the river to the Mecure (ex Hilton) but I may start trying this place.

cove, I really like the idea of walking to the Flounge for breakfast ...

Yes serfty and it comes at our favourite price.
We are usually in the SQ TPR in Singapore after overnighting at the Crowne Plaza. This is the same price for breakfast so that of course is a favourite too.

Just wait for your check in email the day before arrival. At the bottom is a section for comments, where I requested an airport side room. I have no status with Rydges but managed to jag a good room

Just to share my recent experiences, booked a night online for my stay before a flight to BKK. I checked in online when the email came through - easy enough. Requested an airport view room in the notes. Arrived off a domestic flight, waited 35 minutes for Tbus - according to the timetable, one did not show up at all. Arrived at check in at about 8.45pm. Long lines, two servers, with 6 people in each line, and more people arriving behind me. The sign for those already checked in was conveniently sitting beside an unattended counter. When a person asked about the online check in line as I arrived, he was told just to join the regular queues. When I finally reached the counter, check in was quite quick, but was allocated a room with a lovely carpark/dumpster area view. There was no mention of my Priority Guest membership, or the benefits associated with this.
The room itself was nice enough, small but comfortable bed. I could not help but notice the thick layer of dust over the "minibar" products available for sale, and did a check, sure enough half of the products were past their best before date.
Breakfast the next morning was mediocre at best, with similar quality and selection to many more budget hotels.
All in all, disappointing for the price, but can't beat the location.
As an aside, I thought I would try Rydges Adelaide South Parklands when I got back (on New Years eve). Once again, no acknowledgement of my PG membership or the benefits associated with this, and a minibar with items again past their best before date.
It was only upon checking out that I advised that I took a bottle of water (as per the PG membership benefits) that the girl at reception asked me if I got a free drink voucher at check in!!!
