Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and UAE cut diplomatic ties with Qatar.

Qatar owns some serious real estate and other assets:
That includes 17 per cent of car company Volkswagen, nearly 10 per cent of Russian oil company Rosneft, Paris Saint-Germain Football Club in France along with critical buildings in London like The Shard, the Olympic Stadium and large parts of banking centre Canary Wharf.

It looks like there is minimal disruption to both these routes. WDH-DOH was only 34 minutes late from having to skirt around the UAE. DOH-ADL was spot on time, even arrived a bit early. The Aussie routes were probably already being routed over Iran.

Well, not really. I flew HBE-DOH-ADL on 4 June in J and the flights happily crossed Saudi Arabia and UAE, ie the most direct routes. And the flights were actually a few minutes early.

However, from 5 June it's a completely different story.

Iran also had some serious real estate before the revolution... such as a major stake in the Twin Towers in NYC and being the largest shareholder of Mercedes Benz. If it comes to shove, none of these matter: those who have dreamt of all this sh@#$ will remain untouchable and will feed on the flesh (and the bones) for some years to come... Remember those over $100 billions which is supposed to be released as part of the Nuclear Agreement last year? It was mostly liquid (or near) liquid assets Iran had in the US in 1979. How much do you think just the interest would have been on that money held for 38 years?

This may be a smidge OT - but does anyone know why Bahrain's airspace is so huge and completely surrounds Qatar?

How is airspace not limited to the air above your territory?? I there no "international airspace"?

Why does Melbourne FIR control half the Indian Ocean?
Why does Oakland control half the North Pacfic? ;P
There was a post on this on Flyertalk and have managed to find this.

"While Bahrain provides air traffic control services within the FIR, the airspace in question is considered international airspace (except where it is within 12 miles of the coastline). It is not airspace that is actually owned by Bahrain."

Once the issue is resolved ..think Qatar will be offering some great deals

Except apart from the single corridor to Iran they are avoiding all that Bahranian space

That is interesting; if the space is not part of Bahrain airspace but is serviced by ATC based on Bahrain, is the single corridor because Bahrain refuses to provide ATC services to a commercial carrier in 'international space'?

Things may be going to get nastier. An attack on Iran's Parliament.ISIS claims responsibility and Iran blames Saudi Arabia.

And Turkey is offering aid and troops to Qatar. That's helpful.

Turkey was drawn in to the escalating row between Qatar and its Gulf neighbours yesterday, saying it was prepared to dispatch thousands of troops to a base near Doha and provide food and water to the isolated state.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the decision by Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates and two other states to blockade Qatar and isolate it diplomatically would not solve regional problems. The states accuse Qatar of supporting the Sunni Islamist group Muslim Brotherhood, fostering terrorism and cosying up to Iran.

Turkey established a military base in Qatar in 2014. Yesterday its parliament was discussing plans to accelerate the deployment of up to 3000 troops there.

Turkey sure knows how to stir the pot.

The whole region was already very complicated, and it is getting more so by the hour!
Indeed, my view has been for quite a while that anyone who proposes supposedly "simple" solutions to the regions problems is probably a bit "simple" themselves. No names probably needed.

And an Israeli view from a well connected journalist-
Qatar, Trump, and the art of the double deal – CarolineGlick.com

"Arguably, Qatar’s role in undermining the stability of the Islamic world has been second only to Iran’s." I beg to differ, WITHOUT DOUBT, Saudi Arabia has been the number 1 in undermining stability of the world (not just Islamic world). Just follow the money trail any where there is radicalisation. Any radicalised terrorist anywhere in the world is directly or indirectly linked to a mosque or an Imam funded by Saudis.

Having said that, I guess it depends on what the author defines 'stability' and for what 'purpose'. I guess one could argue funding ISIS by Saudis could be a good thing for stability in the eyes of Israel (as her nemesis would be too busy fighting each other).

Edit: Nevertheless I thank you for posting the link, as I enjoy reading differing points of view; something that has become increasingly difficult with advance AI techniques employed by Facebook, Google, etc to feed every individual a very narrow view of the world they perceive as 'relevant'.

Not even 'Shiraz'?

(For those who might not know, Shiraz originated in Iran--it is actually name of the city the wine comes from)

So Shiraz has been sending 4 cargo planes to Doha. I'm sure no booze has been shipped...although the Saudis might need a stiff drink! :D

It is all jumbled up world, don't know what happened to all these middle-eastern nations specially after Donald Ducks i mean trumps visit. Qatar i have never been to but i believe is not a place to harbor terrorist.

The issue (whether this is true or not who knows) is that Qatar paid a 1 billion dollar ransom for two members of the Qatari Royal family who had been kidnapped. That's 1 billion dollars funding whatever organisation sets out to kidnap people.

Oh dear. At least he is predictable. I'm thinking the nuances and political complexity of this issue have gone completely over his head.

Meh. He's got his policy platform and he's going to stick to it. I can respect that at least.
