Re: Buying Two Y Seats Rather a single J Seat

i was told over the phone today, extra child "comfort" seats are sold at the same price as adult.. ie no discount on the extra seats for child

no matter as i am looking to link extra seats destined for my children to my QFF.

Why don’t you just get a comfort seat for yourself, it’s the same price minus taxes, which will probably come to the same as a child’s ticket.

Re: Buying Two Y Seats Rather a single J Seat

i am in the middle of trying to assign all 5 empty seats to me now, maybe what i am doing is quite greedy as the first quote back from QF consultant priced me + 5 empty seats at a cost more than me + 5 fully paid seats with taxes which does NOT make sense at all.

have asked them to re-look into the pricing as it should be 1 full paid fare + 5 x base fares.

Re: Buying Two Y Seats Rather a single J Seat

Wonder if you can double SC's on that seat as well

Do the taxes include fuel surcharges? If I could get a ticket to the US (MEL-LAX) + another at the true base rate this would only cost me another $480 which would earn 90SC and 31k points for a WP as well as a spare seat.

Re: Buying Two Y Seats Rather a single J Seat

all done, the re-pricing of the 1 adult fare + 5 empty seats is now correct and just paid for.

now wait for the ticket to be issued and 10 seats assignment for our flight between SIN and AUS.

When you make a booking online and see the total amount, clicking on that will bring up the price for the ticket and then the taxes separate. On domestic at least, all those taxes are basically wiped for the comfort seat, however you still pay GST I believe.

I’d call up and ask. The issue is there’s not an automatic system for this, so it always takes some time on hold as they manually go through and try work out the figures. I’ve had one booking where I was overcharged… so you’d probably have to get them to go through it and if it works out, pay, because they’ll have done all the work to get that quote.

I’ve felt a bit guilty a couple times when the quote has been too high after 15 mins or so on hold as they worked away, and had to say no.

I wouldn’t hold your breath on the ticket, it’ll be valid and all, but I’ve had all sorts of dramas getting the ticket in my inbox for comfort seat bookings. It never arrives, ad you can’t manage it through your profile. Not sure why. I’m not sure you’ll be able to use Advance Seat Selection either, let us know.

*nods*.... was on phone with the Qantas customer service for an hours at least and on hold most of that time waiting for ticket to be verified/booked/issued etc

i've just noticed my request for n empty seats was reduced to (n - 1) empty seats in the online version of the ticket, another call to sort this out.

luckily the LTS is handy as i was aghast at thought of paying $20 per seating request in order to string the seating to our liking.

Will it work on Jetstar Asia? fly jetstar about to 8 times a year.

You would have to call them up and hope you get a good service agent, and get the same good service agent every time. However I would think not, if they were going to sell you a second seat minus taxes it probably wouldn’t be eligible for the Plus/Max bundles, and thus wouldn’t earn anything.

Re: > 1 paid seat/fare per pax earns > 1 lot of QF SCs and FF points?

Interesting thread.

Not sure how I missed it up to now but may come in handy sometime in the future....

Just to add to the discussion on extra seats - I rang JQ to see if they offered the same service as QF - just pay the base price. They said 'no' it's charged at the full rate, including taxes fees and charges. This was about a year ago, maybe they have changed. I didn't challenge the phone rep... cause I'm not sure how they can charge true taxes for comfort seats, but I think the reply was something like the service fee for them to refund it was going to make it not worthwhile.

However, I think you can book JQ comfort seats on line? (In your own name or something) - so if you score a $9 fare then its nothing much to worry about.

Sorry to dig up this old thread guys... I had an extra seat purchased on my flight coming up next week and when I ring up reservations, they tell me I am not entitled to any baggage allowance for the extra seat. I just wanted to check if this is indeed the case (as the T&Cs obviously have no mention of it) and if not, how would I advise airport staff when I check in? I am only entitled to 2x32kg for one seat, but have 3 pieces, so the extra would come in handy.

Thanks for all your help in advance guys!

The extra seat doesn't pay any fuel fines or surcharges, so maybe that is the justification for saying it doesn't have any extra baggage?? I really don't know on this one. I know you can book an extra seat for the express purpose of additional cabin baggage, but have not heard about hold luggage. You could always try and call again and see if you get a different answer!

yes, that is correct.

the luggage change was introduced may this year and we were almost caught out by being oblivious to it, had to bundle two boxes into one via the glad wrap machine during check in.

Hmm. All I'd say is don't give them a reason to swap FF points/SC for extra baggage as one is much more valuable than the other.

I would have thought the same on the taxes idea though.

yes - but I think part of the reason for not confirming anything on a public forum is that it is an opportunity which should be kept off any search engine results.
