Scams like these

I do not consider myself a "customer" of any government ...
Thanks @NM - one of the worst subtle changes in our daily lives is this ‘customer/guest’ BS from organisations with whom we are anything but. I choose to select/pay for a good or service. Paying a parking fine hardly fills me with gratitude or qualifies as a ‘customer experience’

If I may give an example of the flip-side of that … when I think back to what the RTA was like, I feel very much like a ‘customer’ when I deal with Service NSW these days!

Its a PITA - if the card is linked to your bills it takes so much time to change everything and (in mycase) occured on the day the money was meant to be paid and they all bounced!!
As 28 Degrees doesn't give any points for transactions I only use it for foreign currency or location transactions. So the one time they cancelled my card (but none of supps) it wasn't a problem.

That said, given it is run by Citi (now NAB) when my Citi (Fee free for life) card got cancelled & re-issued for some reason the existing DD transactions were still honoured. What it did serve to also show was just how slow some utility companies are in updating their DD change requests. One took 3 months to change & the other 5 months. Two were changed before the next billing period.

--------

If possible, may be worth your while getting a fee-free low frills card in the vein of the Coles No Annual Fee MasterCard & earn some FBs on your DDs instead for example.

They've been monitoring my Telsta internet over the past 2 weeks and they can see issues.

Have I given WiFi password to anyone? (No!)
When was the last time you checked Internet speed? (I don't really care about internet speed)

I can hear them mumbling something and slam the phone down. I can't seem to lead one on too far. What's their angle? Ask yiu to download software and take control?

P.S. they should really check if I have Telstra internet before trying to scam me but they'll find someone to co-operate soon enough.

This seems to be one of the many modus operandi scammers follow. I'd think if you'd say that you checked your internet speed, they'd then say, we have got an app that will boost the internet speed. They may say we notice that there is a block in your line and this software will clear that block and make your internet faster ... something like that .. I'm sure their angle is to somehow gain access to your computer and say, infect it, and demand ransom to disinfect it

Scam for today

hmm... may be our phone numbers are on the same scam list ... or we might have had similar patters (in terms of using AusPost or looking for jobs etc) and they are using this pattern to categorise phone numbers and target with scam ads ...

Hi,

How are you today you may not remember me again, but I contacted you previously about a business transaction, then you agreed to help me then but later opted out due to lack of resources. Well I was able to successfully transfer the funds to another business partner that helped me. At the same time I want to use this opportunity to say that I did not forget your past effort and attempts to assist me then, now I'm happy to inform you that i have succeeded in getting the fund transferred under the cooperation of a new partner from Hong Kong, meanwhie I decided to compensate you with the sum of $3,000,000.00 as my little appreciation for your effort and all the stress that you went through during that time.

Kindly make contact to my personal secretary Mr. Frank Dolson, through this e-mail address (<email redacted>) and tell him to send you the preloaded Visa ATM card of $3,000,000.00 (Which can be used at any ATM machine anywhere in the world) which I reserved for compensation to you, for all the effort you made to assist me during that difficult time because without you it wouldn't have been possible for me and the new partner to successfully get the money, so feel free to contact my secretary immediately and send him your details maily (Your Full Names, Address and Cellphone No.#) so that he can send you the card soonest.

Do not forget to let me know immediately you receive the CARD, so that we can share this great news together, I am very busy with my partner at the moment because of the current investment projects that we are working together in his country so i may not be available on email but will communicate at the earliest i can.

Thank you once again for your support then and do accept my sincere gratitude.

Yours Sincerely,

Mr. Suvo Sarkar

Hi, I keep the whole story short.

Your device got infected with my private trojan, it gave me access to all your files, accounts and contacts.

Check the sender of this email, I sent it from your email account.

I stole all your data and then I removed my trojan again, to not leave any traces.

I KNOW EXACTLY ABOUT YOUR ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES!

It won't take a long time to send your data with the proof of your activities to the police.

If you want to avoid jail time, send 1400$ in Bitcoin (BTC) to my address.

You can easily buy Bitcoin (BTC), just Google: "Where to buy Bitcoin (BTC)?".

My address is: bc1qfzlmekudmjnhj88yjl8277zkzu6v9c2r890fan

Yes, that's how the address looks like, just copy and paste it, the address is (CaSe-SenSitiVE).

Once I get the payment, I will remove everything, be sure, I keep my promises.
