Scams like these

Govt agencies do that
Banks do too
Yeah, interesting point.

But given the level of scams nowadays, I'm pretty much refusing to answer any identity questions when someone calls me. Of course there are exceptions such as when a bank rings me to confirm my income following a credit card application; but then I'm expecting those calls.

Other than that, they can try to contact me some other way.

To be fair when I query the info they want, many understand and will give you the option of calling back on a published number

It’s like magic isn’t it?

Somehow if you call the same number to initiate contact you’re on hold for 15 minutes … when you’re responding to a call you’re plonked straight through! :)

Received a call earlier from “April” (in a very noisy call centre) claiming to be from the “bank security department”.

Oh, yeah. Which bank?

She hung up.

The like “department” which of course is a red flag phrase as far as I’m concerned.
Them hanging up first is a bit of less of an occurance.
Had a call from a place, it was a finance place, something to do with shares, can't remember their exact name.
He gave the name of the place, my relo was not in, but ooooo he was not happy when I said my relo was not in.
In the end, I said "how do I know you are not a scammer", he kept saying he was not trying to sell anything, I also didn't want to give him my relo's mobile phone number either.
There are places that call, and we know they are scams from the start, on the other hand, there are also calls where they are trying to sell things, shares, charities that don't give up and in the end trade your details, surveys that on sell your data...
Because we used to have the white pages, a lot of scamming orgs know some basic details.

The date between the numeral, and comma, most places would have left a space after the comma.
But the English on that is of a quite high standard.
I would have worded it to start with, "Our systems shows that...", and as "but please note that keeping your account safe and secure is our highest priority" instead of the blah about "to keep our customers safe and happy".
Never knew something like that existed, haven't checked with (Dr) google.

...but then I'm expecting those calls
and that's the issue, when someone has just had an issue with banking/Amazon purchase/overseas child/delivery/. At any one time what % are having issues with their internet? Establish a situation where your guard is down.

Deem all incoming calls as 100% scams, until they are proved not so.
With mobile phones, its quite easy to block out scam calls, esp if they use the same number, but with home phones, I find it harder to block.
What ever Splash is, all about.
My hands free shows up that one in a while.
Have a relo that lives in Glasgow, so a 44 does show up, she uses a newsagency in the Scotland, sometimes not the same one, so can't block on the home phone, not that I know how to, so assume all incoming calls are scams, firstly.
Also, I now answer with "Namaskar ji", have had a few family friends complain about me saying that, thinking its a wrong number.
But it does put off the scammers, a bit.
The no noise/sound on the other end calls used to scare me, not even a click, esp when its shows as a "private number", but now, I don't answer those "private numbers" anymore.
""Namaskar scammer ji, you can podah"....

Mrs QS showed me an SMS from Toll operator indicating that the E-tag is not working and car has been detected without paying. If not paid a $500 fine will ensue. She almost clicked on the link...

Toll Operator is the most common text I get. Usually something like “your account is out of order please Log in”

I got a sms saying loan has been approved for $15,000 please call 1800959831

Thinking it was suspicious, called
Got a "this nab, there are a lot of increased scam calls", automated msg
For a split second I thought it Was legit, 1800 number, msg sounded really natural genuine

Would have been suspicious if an Indian answered it but got an English speaking person.
Who asked for my name, gave a fake one and he hung up on me.

Got a call today from a Sydney number and answered.

Guy with very strong Filipino accent who seemed to be new on the job and struggling with his script began to introduce himself and tell me it was a courtesy call from the US IRS about my outstanding debt. For some reason he hung up quickly when I screamed loud enough to give him an ear ache to f... off scammer.

So "Alison" from the "Visa Credit card department" (there's that "department" again) calls on the landline except after I say "Hello" she blurts something out in a language not English  but quickly reverts to the intro above. I laughed and said "No you're not" and she's going "No, no wait blah, blah..." as I hung up...
