Scams like these

One of the journalists from ABC 612 Brisbane got it left on his answering machine and played it over the air (with the telephone number redacted). Very intriguing.

MOST alarming scam call ever - sufficient to get me to stop what I was doing.

Maybe not having had the breakfast cup of caffeine was an influence but this is a call that I suspect could catch better than 1 in 2.

So off to number lookup to see if it is legitimate...

Stern male computer generated voice (like CentreLink Robocalls played on the radio recently) stating the ATO has commenced court action against you and is in the process of issuing a criminal arrest warrant.

Would it have got your attention yet? All with perfect grammar/language.
It gets more intimidating as it goes. No name of who the call is for suggests it is a scam but for many - hearing of court action and arrest warrant can make you not think as clearly as you should.

To my personal email address, now getting a bunch of ladies from (apparently) Eastern European countries who tell me their life story in grammatically-poor English and of course, there are attachments to view their picture. Ah no thanks...but it's nice to be popular that I have so many interested in little 'ol me :D

I've had several of these - one of my colleagues rang them back and they asked him for his name and he said Jay Weatherall and they had no idea who he was and asked for his phone number and Tax file number and email address - after he led them on for a few minutes they hung up on him

I think they don't realise the cost of a speeding fine in Oz. Or that demerit points are involved.

I've had a folder appear in my personal email folder called "Yammer Loop". I didn't put it there and the only other person who had acces is my IT guy. Seems that there is some basis in fact about it, according to Google search: https://www.google.com.au/search?q=...e.1.69i57j0.4015j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Very wary about opening the folder, lest I get a trojan. Can anyone cast more light on it?

Edit: After shutting down and re-booting, it's now disappeared....weird :o

Report it asap (ask IT guy - whatever mechanism you have) just in case it has become a 'hidden folder' due to reboot allowing changes to be enacted (similar to Windows Updates sometimes requiring re-boot to take effect).

Heya QF Whip...I mean Wp ;)

Next time your in Q club or Biz in Bne ask around for Tegan, and see what she can tell you.

I know Q staff use it as their social business media comms platform.
She's fairly savvy and may or may not have an answer for you.

It's basically a failed social media platform that Q subscribed to for internal staff sharing...
Myspace type of success...
.But Qantas seem to stand strong with it, contractual I guess?

But what if they'd added "to help us with an enhancement to our offering"?

Life was so easy up to a few years ago, when all we got was snail mail, when we found out that one of our unknown relos had passed away, and that a Barrister was trying to contact us to "dutifully" for a fee hand out his/her (deceased relos)'s funds.
I saw one of those, the addressed person's data was straight copied from the then White Pages.
Those were the good old days when we didn't have to worry about scams, now its on the phone, on the net, on the email, on all devices we need to use to help us run our daily lives.
Tis a pity.
These computers that they say would make life easier, bah humbug. All they do is to help the spammer/scammers.
I have had many missed calls from 0870706176 in Adelaide/Perth, the car accident mob, just to see what would happen.
I rang back the number, no answer, but ever since then, no more calls from that number!
Have put many spam/scam emails into blocked mail, but still they keep coming.

I had a call the other day that somehow got past my 3 second delay technique. They of-course got hold of the local police, Inspector George Gently. They must have heard about Inspector George already because the hang up smartly.
