>>>> ADDED 30 Sept 2010 <<<<

Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Can I take you up on the kind offer? I am looking at an Economy to Business Class Points upgrade for the following flights (Gold Qantas and a bronzer travelling)

QF0082 ECONOMY CLASS (V) DEPART 13JAN12 Singapore - Adelaide Thankyou.
Since there are no exit row seats in Business class on QF 330's then you are looking to check upgrade chances. This is for seating.

For upgrades, please use this thread (please read post #1 carefully along with it's TIP):

Someone tell me which are the best seats to get\ask\select for in Business Class VIRGIN AUSTRALIA on Sat 12th Nov 2011 to Mel to LA?

Regards

Probably way too late, but my favourite is row 5, left or right pair of seats.

Best Y seats on QF 747-400 56J/40W/275Y

Hey guys,

What's the best Y seat selection for 2 people on the QF 747-400 (56J/40W/275Y variant).

Here's the seat map: QANTAS Boeing 747-400 Three Class 56J/40W/275Y Seat Map

My current list of "nice to have" features looks like this (no particular order):
  • Not having to climb over anyone to go to the loo.
  • Not having anyone recline into our faces.
  • Reasonably low foot traffic.
  • Avoid the smell of OMFG from the loos.
Note: I don't love the idea of and exit row seat as IME people tend to congregate in these areas to stretch their legs or wait for the loos.

I currently have us in 38F/38G. This is right next to the crew rest area so it might be nice and quiet?

Re: Best Y seats on QF 747-400 56J/40W/275Y

Sorry I can't offer any advice on which seat to choose but I also have a hell flight coming up ('Y' to Dallas on QF7) so I am interested in the same info. I think the seatmap for my aircraft is slightly different though as the furthest forward Y seats are row 51 - can't post link but it is the 'Pacific' variant on the above link website.

I will be traveling with two mates but we don't necessarily need to seat together. I am going through the whole conundrum of window seat (lean head against wall to sleep) vs centre (D thru G) seat - lie down possibility. Any thoughts on that? I am currently in seat 55A I think - god help me. ;)

Keep looking.

About 7 days before the flight further seating may open up for your SG'ness and also at T-80 hours.

Look for the PE seats for economy PAX in rows 36-39 opening up.

Good thoughts, I guess I had forgotten / suppressed the thought of getting an op upgrade to avoid expectations getting significantly destroyed. Here's hoping!

This is unlikely to be the case for my 3 class (56J/40W/275Y) flight to NRT, right?

Re: Best Y seats on QF 747-400 56J/40W/275Y

Just went through the seat selection via the QF site and it had available for selection 39K and 39A (for QF8 return) so I've snapped them up. If those truly are PE seats it seems extremely strange that as a Y fare I could self-select those seats. Has anyone done this before and actually been seated in the PE section? Or am I going to be disappointed big-time when I clamber aboard?

It's a known thing where some 4 class aircraft are sold as 3 class. I think. Well done. :)

I have done QF7 and QF8 both twice, Economy seating was 36B, 36A, 36A (other was upgraded [on points] to 1A).

I'm looking at MEL-LAX-MEL in June/July 2012 on QF 93/94 (A380). I haven't purchased tickets yet, as prices are still too high. From AFF, my seating preferences, in order, are (I'm 6'9")":

1. 80A/K
2. 71D
3. Exit row seat

I've signed up for the free version of Expert Flyer, which gives me access to seat maps, which is quite helpful.

A couple of questions (as a NB):

1. How accurate is the free version of Expert Flyer?

2. Seat Guru says 71D has no seat in front of it due to a hatch to a crew rest area. Is this correct? Does this mean I may be disturbed by crew wanting to enter/exit the hatch?

3. A few searches on Expert Flyer for early July show all exit rows blocked and 80 A/K sometimes occupied but otherwise blocked. I assume this means I won't have access to these seats. Any idea when I might have access to these blocked seats? Interestingly, I managed to get 80A and K last Friday for a NB friend flying in March 2012!

Thanks!

It seems Qantas block 80A/K for their status'ed QFF members. Certainly SG and WP have access , I can't discern id PS have access or not.

What staus have you?

Other then that - the 7 day and T-80 are option, although I'm sure these three seat will be long snapped up by then.

However, given the blocking fo elites, they may become available with upgrade requests being granted. The "seat alert" facility of E/F comes into play here. ;)

I'm only NB (as mentioned in my post).

How do you explain my being able to book a NB friend into 80 A and 80 K for QF 93/94 in March 2012, last Friday?

Looks like I'll have to risk 71D or stump up for an exit row seat, like I did in 2010.

Take 71D; if the other seats become available you can change ...

as for your friend? Who knows ...

FWIW, for international flights, if you have yor QFF number correctly entered, E/F is reasonably accurate.

Exit row on Virgin Australia 777

Hi,

I'm travelling to LAX soon with Virgin Australia on their 777.

I have chosen seat 26A which is an exit row. I haven't been able to find much info on this seat.

Given its an over wing exit I don't think the door has a slide attached. Is that right?

So should be plenty of room...

Has anyone travelled in this row? Any suggestions of a better seat?

Thanks

QF51 on 1 April

I'm not very familiar with this... but according to the current schedule, is the QF51 operating on 1 April for BNE-SIN a 4-class 744 being sold a 3-class flight? Haven't made a booking yet, but if it is the case, I'm tempted to try to get a skybed for Y+ money, even though it's only a short flight.

FWiW, PE is fine for a segment like this.

It is currently a 4 class Kangaroo configuration being sold as three - however, only the 14 first class are being sold as business, no skybeds are available for PE PAX. (i.e. J is 1-36, W is 34-37 and Y is 40+)
