Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Power is pretty important to me so might opt for 35D/E as they seem to have sockets on the seats in front, whereas I can't find anything that says 100% that 66A/B has power. About the bad amount of storage on the UD, after take off and before landing, can you put your bag on the floor in front of you to rest your feet on or even put a small bag under your seat or the seat in front or is this a no no because its an exit row? also, does the seat in front have a net for storage? I've seen some pictures and one shows no net and others do…..
 
Two questions re: seats.

Firstly - if the wife and I had J seats on the Qantas A380 against window, how easy would it be to get to the aisle from window seat. Could I crawl underneath? (Yes I understand it wouldn't be overly dignified). However the chances of me needing to get up - and I'm weighing that up against the window seat to look out.

Secondly - on the CX A330 (3 class) -how easy is it communicate from A to D seats. Looking at photos it wouldn't be easy from D to G given the partition. The wife and I have a night flight, so we plan to sleep most of the time - but it would be nice to be able to have a small chat if possible, so trying to find the best way to seat ourselves.

On the 380 it's easier to climb over the other passenger. I'm yet to see someone crawl under a MKII seat:)

The CX J seats on the 3-class 330 are quite private and the only way to really communicate with someone is to take D and G seats.
 
There's generally little issue stepping past the aisle seat passenger in QF business class the 380 - plus most seats have useful side storage bins under the window.

Even those 2 seats are much good if you want to make any attempts at deep and meaningful conversations. I would make my seat choice without much consideration of the other person in this case.

If you want to commune with the other person in the Centre seats on CX, they do actually slide forwards in the upright position, minimizing the privacy otherwise provided by the configuration.

NOT on the A330 though.

I'm still pondering the vision of someone trying to get under a reclined QF seat!

You can both move the seats forward for better comms

I did CX J a couple of weeks ago...4 adults, 1 child and an infant...

Pick the small mini cabin. Much quieter. On the A330 20a/20d can talk to each other otherwise go for the centre in 19d/19g. Can can talk and see each other in the centre seats....

Shame though as not even my noise cancelling headphone could drown out the snoring from 20G on the way from per - hkg!!

I'm flying from DFW to SYD on QF8 and I see on seat guru there are a dozen economy seats up top. I've never had the chance to fly top deck before and would dearly love the extra quiet too. The kicker is I'm just a Nuffin' Bronze :( and a most of my points went into a nice work bag from the QANTAS store. How quickly do those seats disappear? Can anyone help me out on how to improve my chances on snagging myself a seat up there?? :)

Seat choices can be quite limited for a NB. I would suggest you to keep checking, and be willing to pay for it if anything turns up - choosing seats before check-in is not free for NB. Not entirely sure what you mean by "extra quiet", but if you are referring to engine noise, etc, you'll find the front part of the lower deck to be quieter - although offset by the additional pax in the area.
 
Cheers for your advice Andy. Ah sorry I meant "extra quiet" in the sense of "less pax" haha! It's a pity my SC's reset - I could've made silver for the journey home otherwise... c'est la vie.

Expert Flyer shows that the centre seats in rows 32 & 33 on the upper deck are free but still blocked for the likes of a lowly temporary SG like me. When does WP+ lose exclusive access to these seats? I've seen 80 hours being mentioned but when is it measured from?

80 hours (and I think somewhere it was actually 79.5 hours??) is measured from scheduled departure time.

A second 'batch' also becomes available at the time on-line check in opens, at 24 hours before departure.
 
80 hours is the normal thing for domestic flights, however it's not so for international.

I suggest just keep checking
