Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

I'm doing QF22 NRT-SYD on 19/8. What's the chances of being subbed for a 4-class bird? Currently listed as a 3-class 744 and I've pre-selected 2B.

Hi

I am shouting myself a business class trip from Brisbane to the UK next year. As I am travelling by myself, I would like to get the seat I want. For example I do not want to be stuck in the middle of a 3 or 4 seat configuration.

In lots of discussions, posters have talked of reserving and changing specific seats. When I have done a dummy run of some booking sites, the sites will tell me how many seats are available. But I am not being shown which specific seats are available or asked to nominate which seat I want. (Although obviously I do stop before the payment stage)

I can be quite flexible on dates so I am not constrained by specific flights. Or even airlines at this stage.

Have I missed something or do I need to book through an agent or the airline itself?

Cheers and thanks for any advice

If you do dummy bookings on expedia they show seat availability for certain airlines.

That's true, but if you have any elite status with said airlines, the seat availability shown on Expedia is not a good representation of the "real" seat availability.

Seats on Emirates 777-300ER trans Tasman
Can anyone comment on the ER Y seats, they use to have the entertainment box underneath the seat so the seat was positioned higher and short people were left with their feet dangling. if anyone could comments on the suitability for a 5ft 5 person or slightly shorter it would be much appreciated. it means i do or dont get ICE systems :-)
Cheers
Andy.

Thanks to all for the comments on seat allocation at the time of purchase.

I will also follow up expertflyer. Presumably it only shows available seats after the seat allocation window opens.

Cheers

I'm not aware of any airline sites that show you the seats before you actually buy a ticket.

At least several US airlines do. For example United and AA.

The CX feature mentioned by Amaroo I wasn't aware of until now - seems new(ish)? used to always have to wait until ticketing before being able to select seats.

I was recently doing some dummy bookings for intra-Europe travel, and several airlines offered seat selection before booking complete (eg OS-Austrian).

Re: Flight Availability/Loadings & Upgrade Probability Help Desk

Morning all Can anyone provide a map of the Upper deck economy loadings and availability for QF0 MEL-LHR on the 30th October Please. Want to see if a seat has been blocked as a shadow?

Many thanks in advance

I note that PE shows, but not Y. Perhaps being deliberately blocked for some reason.

Re: Flight Availability/Loadings & Upgrade Probability Help Desk

QF9 down to V4 S5 ... QF10 showing X9!

Former pretty sold and latter pretty empty - no wonder they are not showing seat maps ...

Hi there,

Im flying on Qantas Airbus A380 London Heathrow QF10 - Melbourne 17 Dec and then back, Sydney - London Heathrow QF10 15th Jan.

On the way out I have the option of 48B&C, 66A&B or 35D&E on upper deck. Which should i choose?

The upper deck sounds good as it might be quieter/calmer, but lots of people saying that row 35 gets problems with foot traffic and you have no where to put anything. I've heard some people have said 66A is good but is it better to be in the upper deck?

Is turbulence much different on the upper deck at the back - I usually try and fly near the wing.

Also, I was wondering if all/any of these seats have power - different websites say different things….

Sorry for all the questions and thanks very much.

There is a general lack of overhead space upstairs in Y on the 380s, so it is a bit of a first in best dressed situation. 35D&E have great leg room, but as you say no storage for take-off and landing and they are close to the one toilet. My daughter took 35F recently, wore some white socks and said that most people soon learned to walk to the toilet the back way.

66A&B are very good for leg space, and IMO better than 48 BC which is both the boarding door and next to the galley. All 3 choices have the fixed armrests for the TV screen so no space difference there. Personally I would suggest 66AB.
