I am really letting the side down. I take a pair of Keen clodhoppers on my feet, and pair of Keen sandals called 'waterproof', with toes and heels intact for protection, and a paor of thongs for the room. One handbag. HLO only unless shopping in the US.

My excuse is that I have a damaged nerve in my foot and heels are long gone.

When all is said and done, we are lucky that we lead such charmed lives. That's how I feel, I appreciate how things have worked out and I get to travel just the right amount thanks to AFF. :)

Yes the toes ALWAYS have polish ! I will be going to my favourite pedicure place in BKK next week - pedicure and shellac poilish is on the agenda

How long does shellac last mrs.dr.? Have a wedding to go to next Saturday and then Christmas then 2 week cruise in Asia. Guess its too early for it to last until then?

If I may put in my 2 penneth worth. I have BioSculpture Gel nails renewed at around the 6 - 8 week mark. They need redoing when my nails have grown too long to be comfortable for me. My nails don't chip or break.
This will allow you to find salons in your neighbourhood.

I get my shellac about every 2-3 weeks. Had it done just before going on holidays thinking.... I will get them re-done somewhere... Nope.....(The fad has not hit Egypt) It was still going strong at 5 weeks, just the growth out made them look bad.
Pulled them off and just painted my nails until we got home.

I get 3 weeks easily from my shellac. The only reason I have it removed at that point is because my nails are fast growing so have a big gap at the bottom.

I have tried SNS which is the powder dip one and was happy with it but it was a bit thick for my liking.

I use a trick sometimes if I want a one off colour and then a base colour for ongoing. I have the shellac done (always 3 coats) and then get them to do a normal polish on top for the event. I can then remove that without damaging the shellac!

I was going for a slate colour this round but it was a bit darker than planned so a week later I've added a coat of Chanel Vert Sacrilege which is an awesome stormy greeny black colour.

So it seems the pedicure will be good to go but the manicure will need a revisit. I have a plan :p

I'm going pretty pink for the wedding (wearing a feminine outfit) then will go vampy red for Christmas and holidays

I agree with Princess Fiona, I easily get 4 weeks out of a pedicure and shellac polish. I have a several asian run nail bars at my local shopping centre and they all do a great job, I have picked one and I usually stick with them. They are super clean and I have never had a problem with my nails there. If we are travelling for 6 weeks I can usually stretch the polish out just by filing my nails myself, till we get to Bangkok ( our usual last stop off before flying home) and I have a pedicure there at a great place I use at Terminal 21 - across the road from the SGS. Currently the shellac on my toes has been on there for 8 weeks !!!!!!!!! It is not too bad I have been triming my nails so they dont look like this ............ and I only like bright pinky/purplish tropical colours

Pay attention now, this is my first, and likely last contribution to any thread about 'shoes and accessories'.

When in Agra, I shop Valentinos at Taj Nagari 2. A 'locals' factory outlet type place; men's and women's.

I feel so ignorant - I have no idea what shellac is, or Valentino Garavani :(

"Acrylics and Gels are fake nails placed over your natural ones. Both can be made to match the shape of the nail, or to extend it. So, when you want longer nails, you are asking for either Acrylic or Gel extensions. People also get Acrylics and Gels in order to have stronger nails (however, in the long term they actually weaken your natural nail).Of course Acrylics and Gels are very different products. Different ingredients, different application techniques, and different pros and cons. You can learn more about their differences below by clicking on “Acrylics” and “Gels”.

Shellac
is a blend of gel and nail polish. Because it is like a polish, it can’t be used to extend your nail. Because it is like a gel, however, it does add strength and durability. In the long term Shellac is much less damaging to nails than traditional Gels (or Acrylics).
The main benefit is that it reduces chipping.

Shellac vs. Gel Manicure vs Gels

Many people confuse Gels with Shellac. This is because Shellac contains gel, so many consumers have mixed up their terminology, asking for a “gel manicure” when what they want is Shellac. So gel manicure is sort of a made up name for Shellac (people in the industry always use the term Shellac). Meanwhile, Shellac and Gels are not the same service. Just as the ingredients, procedures and results for Acrylics and Gels differ, the same is true about Shellac vs Gels."

Wow - random thread :)

I let the men's team down with an abnormal desire to buy shoes...

I usually get a couple of pairs in Europe each year of Lloyds - a German brand. They are very expensive to buy in Aust but are a good price in Europe. I am not very good at 'retiring' old ones and they are great quality and last a long time. I have long run out of cupboard space so have some inside my front door and a few pairs in my locker at work.

I keep an eye out online at zalandos.fi and get them delivered for free to a friend's house in Helsinki and pick them up whenever I pass through :) It doesn't help when I then go into shops and spot them on sale and purchase more!

Thanks, great explanation as I too had no idea. I thought shellac was what you put on old timber furniture, when the term "French Polish" meant finishing timber furniture. Made from bits of beetles if I remember correctly.
