Shop small to return in November

In previous shop small promotions i've always just paid total balance minus the shop small credits and never had an issue which is why I got a big shock this time!

My point exactly. I feel it is likely to be a one-off.

Be careful people re payments for charge cards as I just found out.

So I had a balance payable of around $8000, I had a shop small credit of $10 posted before the due date, I paid $8000-$10=$7990 for example as it was showing as balance owing.
Today I got my latest statement with a whoping late payment charge for over $220!!!!

Called them to get an explanation and they said I had made an under payment by exactly $10 hence the charge.

But they were happy to remove the charge and said that in future I should pay the full balance even if I get shop small credits during the month.

Almost had a heartattack!!

And that's why I've set up an auto direct debit from my primary bank account, no worrying about paying the wrong amount at the wrong time.

I have managed 6 so far. Should be able to do the whole 10 by next weekend.

Ok so I had until today only completed 1 of my 10 transactions - decided to go out with a friend this morning and hit some (seem they had 4 cards x 10 to complete).
1 - butcher
2 - lenards chicken
3 - toy shop
4 - butcher
5 - Bottle shop
6 - nursery

very happy with the haul. Got a text from my friend who went out to Carina leagues club for dinner dinner and got an email with the $10 credit from them!!! so 6x4 and 1x1 for my friend today

Where in Brisbane do you find a cheap butcher? Or is price not a consideration?

The butchers at Milton are not cheap and they participate in shop small. The butchers in Toowong Village are very expensive and I am not even sure they accept Amex.

Noticed my physio was listed on shop small and on the amexnetwork hicaps website. Presented my amex to pay and was informed that they don't accept it. Showed them the hicaps amexnetwork page which listed them and they tried it and what do you know it worked. Although in this case they genuinely didn't know the machine accepted amex and that hicaps must automatically come setup with amex support?

One of the posts above got me thinking. I have 3 cards registered for shopsmall, 1 branded amex and the other 2 Amex cards. So far received around 15 credits. Amex allows you to register your Amex Amex Supplementary as a separate card as it has a different card number to the Primary card.
This week Amex wrote to me saying I could have up to 4 supplementary cards on the account. With cards going to PIN number access why wouldn't I request a couple more in the names of my children and keep them in the top draw just for these promotions? ;)

Got an email for a credit for a Veda subscription..damn weird on what some of the places considered small, not complaining though.

Nothing really, just watch out for supplimentary card fees. Also some supplimentary cards will have the same numbers.
Also depends on whether you'd be able to make full use of it, currently sitting on 21/50, it'll be a stretch to max out the remaining :|

Went into the local Cricket shop for new gloves and a bat grip. Total came to $75. Went to pay with my Amex and was told they don't accept Amex for transactions under $100 despite them being on the Shop Small map, and having Amex and Shop Small stickers in the window.

What's the procedure to report this?

Thanks

So no response from Amex about this. Been just over a week. Any way that I can follow up?

Supplementary card numbers are different to Primary card on Amex branded cards. No fees apply for up to 4 supplementary cards of the Plat Edge variety.
Granted it can be a chore to find enough different merchants to max your credit return, the benefit would be at your regularly visited merchants where you soon use up your credits on existing cards. e.g. greengrocer, chemist, restaurants/take-away.

For those based in Canberra (and especially North-sider), go to Quick & Go Convenience Store at the Northbourne Avenue facing side of Sydney Building for MyWay recharges.

Also use
Hunt Newsagency @ 74 Alinga St (directly opposite Canberra GPO) and Buddy Convenience @ 64 Northbourne (opposite Jolimont Centre on the other side of Northbourne) for your mobile recharges.

All these stores accept AMEX without surcharges.

thank you. Just topped up my way. Will do a few more times before end of week using different cards. You do lose the 5% saving from paying by BPay. What happens when your balance is a mix of BPay and pay at outlet?

Does it just give you 105% of credit on bpay payments and 100% of credit on other payment methods?

No I don't think so. The standard price is $2.84 but if you have paid by BPay it is $2.69. (About 50c less in off peak)

I've topped up around $150 dollars worth of MyWay between Dickson Newsagency, Jamison Centre Newsagency, and Quick&Go at Civic.

Hope it's enough for a few years worth of bus rides ;)

But, there is no cap - assuming you have multiple cards or multiple merchants to visit.... The cap is only per merchant, not overall.

The cap is 10 per card, and once per merchant per card. So in one transaction you can possibly (if merchant plays ball) use up all of your AMEX cards.

Just as some posts on this thread have described. Only problem (if using unique PINs) is remembering the different PINS.
