Shop small to return in November

Went into the local Cricket shop for new gloves and a bat grip. Total came to $75. Went to pay with my Amex and was told they don't accept Amex for transactions under $100 despite them being on the Shop Small map, and having Amex and Shop Small stickers in the window.

What's the procedure to report this?

Thanks

When will aussie businesses learn any business is good business!?
Can't remember exactly where the link is as I'm not at my computer and the mobile version is playing funny buggers. I'll post the link later today when I'm home.

I was given this link to report any shops that don't honour AMEX.

Is the Amex MSF (Merchant Service Fee) just a set percentage, like Visa and MasterCard, or is there another component per transaction? If the incremental cost to the merchant is just a set percentage of the purchase, then stipulating a minimum doesn't make any sense to me.

I can understand a minimum purchase requirement when payment is via EFTPOS, since it's a flat fee.

Been having fun looking for places to use amex but experience been 50/50.
A shop last week in Newcastle and another in Brisbane refuse to accept despite on the shopsmall map. Emailed amex and got a reply the next day promising I'll get $10x2 back soon. They also apologized and promised to investigate.
Now just having lunch at south bank Brisbane, again shop refuse to accept apparently orders from owner not to accept. I insisted and the card went thru. Immediately got an email notification from shopsmall amex on the transaction. Looks like many establishment on purpose not accepting amex.

I would have thought so. It's pretty ridiculous IMO.

Ridiculous when the shop small credit is not paid for by the retailer, but by Amex...

May I ask which restaurant that was? I eat around there a fair bit so would like to know which establishment to now avoid haha. :)

Morning!

I am thinking about purchasing some JBHifi gifts cards from a merchant within the shop small promo. Can I make a separate transaction for each gift card at the same merchant on the same day and receive a shop small credit for each transaction?

Which place is this?

This is one of those situations where it's worth having as many amexes as one can carry ;)
Managed to split a payment across 3 cards on friday night for dinner Unfortunately not all places are so obliging.

My local foodworks didn't have gift cards in the end, so I purchased couple of hundred worth of JB cards from WW and got a couple of hundred QFF points.. Oh well! ;)

Had a similar experience to some users here, dined at a place listed on the shopsmall website, restaurant did not accept Amex.

Sent them an email via the 'email us' link once you are logged in to your account online and they responded promptly saying they will investigate / credit $10.

Still waiting for the $10 credit, used my card at another place on the list after that date and have received the statement credit already so they must be calling the retailer and doing some follow up.

It took 3 business days to get the following reply:

Just shopped at Spectrum Photograhics and purchased an item I was told was $20. When it is rung up it comes to just $19.90. I ask, can you round that to $20 please to odd looks from salesperson. Arrived home to a credit email. Nice. :)

My monthly $20 donation to a certain charity attracted a credit today ;)

Tax deductable and $10 back from Amex. I'll take it :)

I went to Ainslie Football Club on the evening of the Melb Cup and they said we don't take Amex. I said we specifically went there because of the promotion. They went looking for someone and they came back saying try the machine and we did and it went through. Therefore I suggest there are instances where the staff haven't been told they are now taking Amex.

 indeed. The map/site was under maintenance most of Thursday so at least they could have fixed it ;) I sent a complaint via email so we'll see where it takes me.

Good service Amex. I sent my complaint via email on 15/11 and received a response today 17/7 "I have immediately escalated this issue to our Shop small team. They will issue the credit of $10.00 to your account since you attempted to make a charge at the listed participating merchant. You will be able to view the credit on the upcoming statement." This outcome is a similar results to the several reported here.

I went to The Good Guys last weekend (Spend $500, get $50 credit) and bought a Samsung Tablet S 8.4 $439.00. I also bought a standard case which RRP $70.00 and the sales guy said he could reduce it to $55.00, I told him I wouldn't mind paying $61.00, as I needed to hit $500 to get $50.00 credited back. Anyway, will also be getting the GST back of $45.xx when I go overseas :)

That's good news. I sent feedback yesterday so hopefully I get a response in the next couple days.
