Should obese people pay extra for flying

Slightly off topoc,but read interesting article on line (cant remember if US or UK) but a survey was conducted on pet peeves amongst passengers.
the results indicated (from memory) that major issues were children, seat recliners, overweight persons, body ordour, delays, etc.
whilst there is lies, damm lies and statistics; i think people remember their worst flights and the cause and then have a pre-concieved idea for flights thereafter. I will be the first to admit, I haven't had issue with overweight passenger beside myself or Mrs Bodie.
I have had 10 hours of crying twins near on flight, i have had full seat recliners again, even before take off, and as soon as THEY finished their meal until i locked my arm to prevent full recline. So all our judgements will be guided by our experience.
Airlines are cramming more people on board to give greater yield and hopefully revenue with minimun distance in front and beside passengers, especially in Y. Airlines are not going to change this policy. So a thoughful flier that recognises that he/she might over crowd the person beside, is in bind, pay for business (often not financially an option) or try for spare seat beside, (upset certain ff, as getting a perceived benefit, that status mightn't match), or not worry and let the passenger beside suffer, and become a statistic on another survey.

So what next, luggage checked in, excuse me sir, please stand against the wall, hmmm height 180cm, weight 100kg, your BMI is obese, pay extra to us for being a fat cough, oh and no coughpy inflight catering for you either, because you are so lardy. So what about muscle tone, it's quite possible to be classified as obese, when you are in fact very fit and muscular... Those skinny coughs need to go and have a steak

I think if you can't fit into the seat without bulging out at the sides then either you shouldn't fly or you should buy suitable seating. Alternatively you think about [losing weight]. LOL.

Florence and I keep a close track on our weight as we love to have that slim feminine look.

Anyone know of the politician Dick Adams from Tasmania? Google image him, the guy is as big as they get in the land of morbid obesity.

Have seen him twice on QFLink out of LST and both times on a Q400 (which isn't known for wide seats) he has has some unfortunate person literally squished in beside him. Both times he has sat on the aisle and literally spilled into it, and when the FA's or any PAX have to go past he has to roll himself back into the seat. He has to have the special extender seatbelt as well.

I think people should be forced to buy another seat. I also think in this example it is a clear safety issue as well!

Now I have come across skinny/average people in flight who should not be allowed out in public. Ever....

I would assume, and probably be wrong, that the majority of travellers that can't fit in only their seat (spill into others) would be frequent flyers, and thus the simple solution would be that if you're discovered to be inconveniencing other pax, a note is added to your profile so in the future they already know you need an extra seat, or you don't fly. Or something along those lines. Basically you don't police them until there's a problem.

I don't see this as being discriminatory if you can't fit in your own space, but then I'm sure it would be.

And I mean no offence to anyone if I have used the wrong language.

Perfect example of when you should buy a comfort seat. I regularly fly QFLink and regularly book myself a comfort seat, so I don't have some annoying person next to me, and if I can do it, no reason he can't.

but many people don't fit into airline seats without inconveniencing others, that is what we are talking about here. I don't appreciate rolls of flat floating under and over the seat rest into my personal space.

Yes, another member booked in DSC earlier this year and had quadruple SC.

Note though that comfort seats only take away the taxes, and not every flight has exorbitant taxes, though many do these days...

In all seriousness I think there should be a premium economy size seat in economy with a surcharge.

No better service, no additional perks, same cabin, undivided, just s bigger seat. Make the price reasonable so as to encourage heavy weights to pay!

You know those "does your carry on bag fit in here?" stands? What about one all passengers walk through to board the plane. If you can't fit - you buy the extra seat!
