Singapore Airlines Delays/Cancellations

Given that the Hume is cut, I’m not sure it would necessarily be all the helpful.

Actually, last Thursday (13 December), when the Hume Freeway was closed northbound due to extensive flooding near Bowser (and heavily delayed southbound), the rail line was open. And that's conventional rail: high speed rail might well, as overseas, be built on viaducts, or if not, built up even further above the ground.

Thursday 20 December, an afternoon and early evening of intense storms in Sydney, sees SQ288 (B773ER 9V-SWL), the 2135 hours SYD - CBR having taken off at 2321. It must have a dispensation.

SQ242 (Thursday 20 December, the 1910 hours SYD - SIN with B773ER 9V-SWP) took off at 2131. Expected arrival is 0220 hours on Friday 21, two hours tardy.

SQ218 (Friday 28 December, the 0105 hours redeye MEL - SIN) is expected to depart 65 late. That may be a tad optimistic, as SQ217, the 2125 hours arrival in MEL is not expected until 0106 hours on Friday.

Monday 31 December 2018 finds SQ223 (B772ER 9V-SVE, the scheduled 0930 hours SIN down to PER that was in the sky at 1111) likely to arrive at 1549 hours, 64 late.

Much later, SQ242 (1910 hours SYD - SIN in the sky at 2107 with B773ER 9V-SWK) should arrive on 1 January 2019 at around 0150 hours, 90 minutes tardy.

Also SQ247 SIN-MEL was airborne late, arrived at 8 20, 110 behind schedule (9V-SQN). This impacted SQ247 MEL-WLG service which departed at 9 51 and arrived to gate at 15 01, 51 min tardy.

In another delay on New Year's Day 2019, SQ222 (1610 hours SYD - SIN, A380 9V-SKN) took off at 1736. Estimated arrival is 2215, 55 late.

SQ237, the Saturday 5 January 2019 SIN - MEL timetabled to push back at 0025 took off at 0134 hours with B773ER 9V-SWN. Likely arrival at 1133 will be 38 minutes tardy.

With AFFer Quickstatus suggesting there's a shortage of ATC staff in Sydney on Friday 18 January 2019 night due to excessive numbers off sick, SQ288 (B773ER 9V-SWJ, the 2135 hours SYD - CBR - SIN) took off at 2304 hours. The critical time is that ATC give the OK prior to 2245 for takeoff.

B772ER 9V-SQL on the Saturday 19 January 2019 scheduled 1755 hours MEL - SIN (SQ248) was in the sky at 1912 so arrival should be 2338 hours, 53 late. The following flight, SQ208 (A359 9V-SMP) took off early at 1932 so isn't far behind.

As a hot north wind gusts at up to 65kmh on the morning of Friday 25 January at MEL, SQ247, the 0750 hours MEL across to WLG (B772ER 9V-SRM) was still taxiing at 0908, so it will be more than half an hour late arriving in NZ's wind (and official) capital.

Updating teh previous post, on Friday 25 January, the returning SQ248 from WLG arrived in MEL at 1733, 63 minutes behind schedule. The 1754 hours onwards leg to SIN will be able to depart from about 1840.

While not daily, SQ248 is the fifth SQ MEL - SIN flight on the days it operates.

MEL - SIN - MEL is becoming the busiest international route into or out of Australia in passengers carried, as it is beginning to move ahead of SIN - SYD - SIN, although not by much.

SYD has been and is very busy during Sunday 27 January 2019 evening as SQ242, the 1910 hours SYD - SIN (B773ER 9V--SWF) that took off at 2023 wends its way northwest for a projected 0055 hours arrival on Monday 28, 35 late.

SQ288 (0935 hours SIN - SYD airborne at 1008, about 10 minutes late) has B773ER 9V-SNB and is arriving, having weathered the stormy weather around Sydney, at 2119 hours, 54 late.

BNE international had to be evacuated on Saturday night 2 February 2019 due to a man of Middle Eastern ethnicity allegedly making a false bomb threat and brandishing a knife at female family members.

SQ246, the scheduled 2325 hours BNE - SIN with A359 9V-SMN took off at 0159 hours on Sunday 3 so arrival is delayed until a predicted 0705 hours, 115 late.

The Wednesday 6 February 2019 early evening storms in Melbourne caused many delays. SQ208, the 1925 hours MEL - SIN was no exception, with A359, 9V-SMM taking off at 2033. Arrival should be at 0040 hours on Thursday 7, 35 late.

Storms in Sydney from late afternoon on Friday 8 February have delayed many flights with SQ288 caught up, though not as badly as many others.

B773ER 9V-SNA should arrive at about 2101 hours, 36 late.

SQ227 (B773ER 9V-SWM, the 2150 hours mid evening SIN - MEL on Monday 11 February 2019) took off at 2312 so on Tuesday 12 suggested arrival is 0847, 32 late.

B773ER 9V-SWD on SQ237, the 0025 hours Tuesday 19 February SIN down to MEL took off at 0147. Arrival is likely at 1139 hours, 44 late.

Due to the India/ Pakistan Kashmiri border dispute and shooting down of military aircraft, this articles suggests SQ flights to/from Europe will require refuelling but does not go into further detail:

Airlines reroute to avoid Pakistan

AFFer Quickstatus suggested in another post that the rerouting of flights avoiding Kashmir was only adding about 15 minutes to flight times.

Could someone therefore explain, if delays are only minimal why refuelling would be claimed to be necessary?

AFFer bcworld informs us via the QF delays/ cancellations thread that SQ only diverted SQ208 and SQ318 yesterday, respectively the 0910 hours (A380) and 1250 hours (B773ER) SIN - LHR flights.

SQ308 diverted to DXB to take on fuel while SQ318 interestingly did so in BOM.

Further diversions are presumably unlikely as the SQ flight crew will just ensure (like QF) that there's sufficient extra kilograms of fuel on board ex SIN, LHR or elsewhere in Europe for this extra half hour's travel.
