Singapore Airlines Delays/Cancellations

SQ227 on Thursday 23 August 2018 has B773ER 9V-SWO and should arrive at 0937, 142 minutes late. SQ238, the 0935 hours returning flight will be unable to push back until at least 1055.

In more on 23 August 2018, SQ266 (B772ER 9V-SVM) is the 1800 hours early evening BNE - SIN that was airborne at 1950 hours. Arrival should be at 0147 hours on Friday 24, 92 late.

There was some discussion recently on the QF delays forum about the reliability or otherwise of new(ish) 787's, I have to report that any such problems are not confined to Qantas!
I was booked on SQ918, 787-10 service SIN-MNL (dep 1925) on Monday 4/9, having previously arrived on SQ238 MEL-SIN. Boarding started on schedule and completed; then we sat at the gate for a long time, and eventually (~1945) the captain announced that a problem with the undercarriage doors had been found in the final walkaround, and we might not be leaving anytime soon. Finally at about 2030 it was announced that this was indeed the case, and because of the time required to prepare another a/c and avoid the MNL curfew, we would be departing at 0300 the next morning!
As the prospect of spending 6 hours in the terminal at this time of night, even in the SKL, was unappealing, I adjourned to the transit hotel, which is actually not bad at all, and managed to get some useful rest before we departed at 0300; I have tended to be a bit cynical about the value of flat beds on such short routes, but I can only say that in this case it was a godsend!
I must say in fairness that this is the first non-trivial delay I have experienced on SQ in a very long time.

whughes3, sounds like you paid for the transit hotel.

Did SQ makes any offers (meal vouchers, hotels) to passengers? How much was offered for meals? Was any payment or compensation differentiated by fare class?

Was the flight well patronised?

Yes, I paid for the transit hotel (SG$100); am exploring the best way to get this back! Non-lounge-elibible pasengers were offered SG$15 equivalent for meals (see attached).
It appeared to near-full the first time around, but possibly less so on the rerun; maybe some pax elected to take later flights.

whughes3, thank you, especially for attaching the professional letter from SQ. Comprehensive information (and good English).

Straits Food Village (for an airport outlet) is not hugely expensive but even so I wonder whether everyone could satisfy their cravings for S$15. Airport rents per square metre are probably lower than SYD/MEL/BNE/PER and wage costs dramatically lower (and fewer add-ons for employees).

SQ231, the 0045 hours Friday 14 September 2018 SIN - SYD has A380 9V-SKG, having become airborne at 0140, about half an hour late. This flight is timetabled to arrive at 1025.

While one has to account for the map's projection on FR24, it looks like (as at 0742 AEST or 0542 WST) the flight may be diverting to PER. It had turned a few hundred kilometres from the WA coast to track via Karratha. Medical?

Also on Friday 14 September, SQ248 arrived in MEL at 1516 hours (14 minutes early) with B772 9V-STQ ex WLG. However departure for SIN was delayed with the flight airborne at 1734 late this afternoon, 44 minutes after scheduled pushback. Hence Lion City arrival should be 47 late at 2332 late tonight.

SQ231 indeed diverted to PER earlier on 14 September, taking off from there at 0739 with SYD arrival at 1310 instead of 1025. It quickly turned around for SQ222, taking off at 1510 on this 1500 hours back to SIN.

Yesterday 15/9 SQ247 MEL-WLG was canceled after a pilot failed an alcohol test.
Singapore Airlines flight from Melbourne to Wellington cancelled after pilot fails alcohol test

SQ248 WLG-MEL was also cancelled as a result.

Perhaps it was too complex (especially with SQ operating a few different aircraft models to MEL) but at face value, surprising that another appropriately type-rated pilot was not able to be brought in from a MEL hotel. Of course, SQ didn't want the intoxicated pilot to again fly - there may be a chance he'll lose his job, although for one error that would be a huge penalty.

SQ235 (Thursday 20 September 2018 arrival) has A359 9V-SME with this SIN to BNE likely to arrive at 1153, 78 late. SQ236 is not timetabled to depart until 1430 this afternoon so it should be unaffected.

Northbound SQ266 on Saturday 29 September 2018 has B772ER 9V-SVM with this 1800 hours flight taking off at 1907. Arrival should be at 0105, 50 minutes late.

?

English is SGs official language? I would expect nothing less.

Airport rents per square metre are probably lower than SYD/MEL/BNE/PER

On the contrary. SG real estate and rents are vastly higher.

Thursday 22 November 2018 sees dust storms in and around Sydney while WNW winds gusting up to 57kmh at the airport mean most aircraft are using runway 25 to take off to the west.

SQ232, the 1215 hours SYD - SIN (A380 9V-SKZ) took off at about 1325 hours so will be at least half an hour tardy arriving.

On dec 13th, SQ288 SIN-SYD (9V-SWF) diverted to CBR.

It will be interesting to see what happens as this aircraft was meant to operate SYD-CBR then to SIN. I’m assuming they are offloading CBR passengers and possibly rebooking the remaining passengers on VA tomorrow?

Again, days like these remind us of the lack of a reliable intercity rail

Here are some pictures of the aftermath of the east coast storm

(From the herald sun - around Wangaratta I think - yes Hume is underwater in parts both directions)

Friday 14th of Dec sees the usually punctual SQ247 MEL-WLG 7 50 service depart until 8 55. It arrived until 14 16, 66 min tardy. This meant that SQ248 WLG-MEL took off at 15 50, with a recent arrival at 17 23, 53 behind schedule (9V-SRP).
