SkyTeam Status Match - ITA Airways

Couldn't you just do it again later in 2024? Just create a new account to gift to
The app lets me gift status again to an other Volare account.
It restricted me up until the status was extended again.

Could potentially recreate a dummy account in January next year to get Elite Plus for a further one year.

Greetings.

Anyone have problem logging in the account in the app?

Seems OK on the website but have to reset password twice.

My app (in iOS) now just seems to open the mobile web site; there’s no native features for an app. I didn’t try and navigate to sign in

Anyone have any luck recently trying to get a match recently? I've read that there are mostly denials happening :(

I believe those matches were offered only during specific (albeit repeated and long-running) promos.

You might be able to get a match/challenge with Garuda, Delta or Virgin Atlantic instead if you want SkyTeam status.

Adding some DPs to the thread:

MU - status not recognised in system but station manager at MEL took a photo of the card and manually issued a lounge voucher. PVG lounge dragons equally helpful.

MF - status not recognised in system and station manager straight out refused to honour, saying what the system says is the absolute source of truth. Very disappointing.

I flew with Aerolíneas Argentinas this week and had my ITA Airways number on the booking. AR is one of the airlines that AZ should actually have a proper partnership with.

At check-in, they tried to charge me for my checked bag, telling me that my ITA Airways card only allowed me to accrue miles. After I repeated three times that my membership was SkyTeam Elite Plus (not the base level as they were telling me), and that this includes an additional checked bag, they called someone and eventually relented. I didn't get any Sky Priority benefits though such as priority boarding.

New card arrived today.
Pretty nice card and envelope.
I haven’t used my status much but linked it to a reward J seat on AF and it allowed me free seat selection and clearly showed as SkyPriority on website and on ticket.

I also got a new card. Third one i think...never used Skyteam in all that time. Hope they join as a fully-fledged member Star Alliance soon.

A few more DPs to add:

DL - added AZ number to booking prior to flight through MMB and elite status was recognised instantly. No issues getting a free checked bag for both passengers (on the same booking) on a basic economy ticket, which was very helpful.

KL - added AZ number to booking through MMB and elite status was recognised instantly as well. Free checked bag on basic economy ticket for status holder only, not the travelling companion.

MF take 2 - MEL station manager still refusing to honour status so no lounge access provided unfortunately. They weren't even confident that ITA Airways is a real airline, let alone part of Skyteam, despite me having a physical card!

According to the MF website, Aeroflot and Alitalia are still good members... but ITA and VS are non existent :)

Cheers,
Matt.

Maybe the Mel station manager should get a new job or get up to speed with airlines outside of Australia ops within the Alliance.

There may still be hope for a LH / *A status match or conversion before our ITA status disappears :D

Cheers,
Matt.

The timeline suggests “you can expect ITA’s alliance switch to occur in late fall or early 2025.”

I wonder if we’ll retain our coveted ITA status that long.

Sod it. Have recently been looking at flying some SkyTeam (its OK - no need to call the Orderlies) and it seems like this is off the table. Might have to look at Garuda, Delta or Virgin Atlantic per Mattg's advice above.

Another status match valid through December 2025 (via 10K qualifying bonus points) with lots of eligible Airlines:

They’re even accepting expired status - “Only valid cards will be accepted as well as those with an expiration date no earlier than January 2023.”

This will be my third status match with ITA. Wish they would hurry up and become a full member of Star Alliance already!
