So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

never going to fit into Australian car parks

Aksherley during a part of my misspent life , I owned a Dodge Ram 2500. (5.9lCummins)
Not as big as they look and quite parkable most places ( with care )

Presumably, you just park over the Barinas of the world.

Car parks are becoming stupidly small though, in what I assume to be an attempt at social engineering.

My car has apparently been built

Made in Au , one might hope it was not built on a friday or a monday .. coming from Asia I guess it doesn't matter

Mrscove wanted to buy me a first Lexus Electric car but i won’t want one until the range is about 600 kms.

Im looking to buy a 1999 Landcruiser 105 with 600,000km
8 more years and it would qualify as a historical vehicle

Basically a old school version of the Landcruiser 100

Naturally aspirated 1HZ straight six diesel 4.2L. Power 96kW:p
Manual 5 speed transmission
Solid Front axle
Wind up windows
Front axle manual locking hubs
Part time 4WD with manual low range
Front and rear bench seats
Rear barn doors

Its got a radio and coil springs!!

A cabin clean could easily be a hose out!!

After 600,000km it has minimal blowby when I remove the engine oil filler cap.

If the engine dies I can recondition one for circa $10K and $3k for the gearbox.
Parts everywhere

The 1HZ is a solid engine, but 600,000 might be stretching it.

Ditch the 1HZ for a Chev 6.5L and make that baby fly
The whole attraction is to not make it fly. A lot less parts for Chev 6.5. Additionally putting in a huge power increase will mean a gearbox upgrade as well. Nah. Ill go with Stock.

Ill be using it for non towing low speed operations :p

Visited the local JLR dealer yesterday. Only one car for sale. His most recently delivery of cars for the showroom sold before they even came off the truck. Some orders now getting close to having birthdays.

A friend has a much loved and cared for 80 series Sahara that made about 600 before rebuild
Afaik, the 80 series was the last of the genuine tanks ( and genuinely collectable) , later versions are mere tractors….;)

My elder son (of recently-acquired LC200 Sahara prominence) has a LC 40 series SWB that my younger son, a qualified panelbeater, has completely in pieces for a total re-build as a bit of a fun machine. They glaze me over with details but they have a legendary donk [2H (?)] from a later Sahara and power steering to drop into it to make it more drivable.

Exactly!!
That’s the whole point :p

People buying a Toyota should understand they are buying boring cars.

Not this one. :)

The first 1000 went for $40,000. After that they were $50,000. Should have taken Neal’s advice and made a tidy $10,000 profit!
