So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

I use Pocket casts for podcasts and YouTube music for my music, Amazon prime for the little bit of video streaming. Don't use Spotify or Netflix.

I also use WhatsApp and signal for messaging. A.A can handle everything!
You can use TuneIn for podcasts (forgot about that), I also use YouTube music and the integration could be better, but I don't exactly stress about it as updates get pushed out all the time - DAB+ radio was an update pushed out after the car release and plenty of other entertainment features have been pushed out as well.

You can still use the web browser in the Tesla to stream things, although I don't use Amazon Prime Video - I have prime but I don't think much of either the streaming video or music but thats what makes us all different I guess. Tesla can do messaging, there's an app which adds WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, FB Messenger and Google Hangouts support on top of the built in SMS.

So from a feature parity perspective most of what I do is available out of the box - if you go with other services that don't currently have inbuilt support than AA is probably the better choice, but given everything fairly well aligns with what I use in the Tesla I don't complain, plus my 4G is free and so is my Spotify access (part of the premium connectivity package that came free with my car) so even though I might use YT music at home I happily use the free spotify premium from Tesla in the car, on their data rather than mine, so it's not all bad.

about to drop 4 times what I've ever spent on charging

I won’t convince you about thr VW timing belt. And you won’t convince me about EV charging.

However the 4 times what you have spent is basically selective accounting.
Do the Total cost of ownership on a per km basis and come back with an answer first

Yesterday I just a 950km drive round trip.
Started at 1100hrs from home, back home at 2330hrs. 12.5 hrs
Vehicle time parked = 1.5 hrs
Refilled with 53L diesel today. Cost $65.10

There is a new thread for discussing the various merits of EV vs ICE vehicles:

[/mod hat]

I’ve done the VW timing belt service (which included the water pump as its run of the same belt) 4 times.

Each time the belt was changed at 105000km it looked pristine. One car had it done twice at 105k and 210k

Yes, no regular ICE type service needed for EV. Not only will EV change the way we see transportation but the current car dealer business models will also have to change
Fixed price cars anyone?
Cam belt change is a pain. My WRX needs changing, since it is 11 years old but only 47k travelled.

Has anyone ordered the new Volvo XC40 EV? Lots of my friends have the XC40 and it’s one of the nicest SUV’s I’ve been in for a while... wondering if anyone has looked into it?
And does anyone have the XC40 petrol?

We've had the Honda CR-V for a couple of months now and I really like the adaptive cruise control system. Not too sure about the lane changing warning at this stage.

For highway driving we have set it for 3 bars and find this works well for us.

There are so many settings to look at and figure out which ones suit you

Was due in June.. Is this still the case?

swmbo has an "ancient" (6yo) xc60 that has been boringly impeccable in build and function.
She "should" be looking at a replacement and that will probably be an XC40 hybrid.
I am not holding my breath tho

Yes for most interference ICE the engine mounts need to be disconnected.

I always ensure that they put in new tension bolts (and give me the old ones). Technically once tension bolts are removed they should not be used.
If I’m going to spend $$$$ on a timing belt change, new tension bolts are a minor invoice adjustment

Haven’t heard much about this, sounds very interesting, given how close it looks to a defender, I would have thought JLR would have kicked up a stink. However there are so many copycat cars being made in the prc, it’s surprising it’s not being made there. :)

All you need to know about the 2022 Ineos Grenadier

Seems they have made a JLR copy, now banned. Landwind X7 - Wikipedia

JLR did kick up a stink but lost in court in this case and in another previous one in the USA.
