It depends on how realistic you're being - EVs will certainly come down in price, but I'm not sure if it's within the time horizons most are hoping. The improvements are incremental, and vehicles across the board aren't all that cheap at the moment, so it comes down to motivation more than anything.
Is it true the E is being built without a front radar?
Well the U.S.A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration certainly thinks so as it has downgraded the safety rating for the Model 3 becuse of the radar removal. But note the last line that Type 3's built for use outside the US will still have the radar.
The Model 3 in North America is, but for all other markets it isn't. So unless you're buying one for the holiday house in Aspen, it's not really an issue for us. I also don't have even a slight opinion on this, as I was convinced by those apparently in the know years ago (clearly I am not an AP engineer) that Tesla absolutely could not implement autopilot without LIDAR as their key competitor in the space Waymo did, and I think the last 5 years has proven them to be successfully correct (as LIDAR is extremely expensive and has shaved ca. $10K off the price of Teslas).
I don't doubt some have, but it goes both ways. My wife's VW TDI is about 5,000km from its next timing belt change (~1.5k, that's gonna be fun) so I am anxious about that. I've driven my EV across 3 different states and would jump in it in a heartbeat for a drive up the eastern seaboard, the only anxiety I would have is if I were heading from SA westbound or into FNQ or NT because I'm a melbournite and I am ignorant to what infrastructure lies out those ways, but the BNE SYD MEL ADL corridors are extremely well covered and documented as are most regional routes now (Gippsland and Geelong coast to Warrnambool included).
No, the contrary. Do it at recommended interval. But there is no anxiety waiting for that interval to arrive because the interval is conservative.
Are you using Android auto on your VW? Do you miss that on the Tesla?
Yep, I do on both counts simply because I'm used to it as an interface, but at the same time I have 4G connectivity on the Tesla with Spotify and Netflix and YouTube and the ability to use the Tesla API to track all of my drives and charges and I can control it over 4G via my phone.. yes I lose the android auto interface but I'm not sure I've lost much functionality wise, it bothers me a lot less than many others but is a legitimate loss of functionality and if someone was invested enough in android auto to buy a car based on its support they might avoid Tesla.
I am no less anxious, because just as I mentioned I expect having been in Melbourne through several lockdowns I am probably on the wrong side of chance based on how long it didn't get a drive for, and I am still anxious about spending the money and so don't want to drive it unnecessarily, hence why I'll drive the EV.
