So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

I don’t understand why anyone would buy an SUV with a space saver spare and a smaller boot than a high riding all wheel drive station wagon with full size spare and a bigger boot.

Exactly why we're looking to trade my Mazda hatch for a wagon rather than an SUV. Currently looking at Mazda6 and Skoda RS....

If I do buy a Ranger, I'll have to take it to Taralgon and get some work done on it by the father and father in law of a well known couple that post on this forum! :)

ms/rt anyone?

Hell yes! :D

You mean like the British MSRT Ranger

What would you upspec on a OZ Ranger

Wildtrack, Raptor stuff, BC20 and TV's father and fil are the Australian reps for the M-Sport stuff. I believe that M-Sport can't use "M-Sport" because of issues with BMW and the name. That's why it's MS-RT, I always thought it meant Rally Team, because they are the company that runs Ford's WRC rally effort, but it means Road Technology.

Yikes, my neighbour has just listed his RS Focus on a popular site and is asking only $42,000.

He's dropping $15,000 in about 8 months. He told me he has bought a boat and doesn't use the RS enough, he has also recently bought an Isuzu twin cab for towing said boat.

I've always been told that cars devalue 25 to 30 percent as soon as they leaves the dealer, better him than me.

I just up the street and it was being driven away by the new owner......

Cossie almost all cars depreciate. Just drive the least expensive one that your ego will allow. I received that advice from a financial planner.

Vehicles with more factory/aftermarket options devalue even faster initially. You can reduce the average rate of depreciation during ownership by keeping the car for longer.

Last night we were driven in a Chevy Bolt. Silent, smooth and spacious for 4 passengers and has a 300 mile range. We were impressed with the all electric vehicle. I can see how this can be a winner.

Some people are very happy to ask for a lower than market price to ensure they get rid of a car. Seems silly
......
Once I was selling a car privately (preGST era) and the guy wanted to pay part cheque and part cash in order to reduce the official selling price so the transfer stamp duty would be based only on the cheque amount

It’s been 14 years since I’ve sold/traded in a car. All the 5 cars bought since remains in the family with a view to pass on some to the kids. When each arrived at their P, I would hand them a car and I would get a new one. Only one to go next year so planning has begun to get a real car:D

I’m told by the Toyota dealership that the Landcruiser 200 does not need a tranny flush after 80000 km and over half towing a 3T float. They checked the fluid by removing a bolt and sampled it to look at the colour??. Why can’t they just do what I ask which was to drop the pan flush the tranny and change filter ??

I talked to him about it, he's made other plans and wanted it gone, there are over 300 on carsales, the head gasket issue seems to scared off a lot of people. He had it at $45,000 with no interest, so dropped to $42,000, for that price they are an absolute bargain. The only other thing close is an AMG A45, but new they are closer to $90,000.

Had a look in the local ford place yesterday, they have an RS demo with 20kms on it for $49,999 drive away.
The boss said she could live with a Ranger, but an Everest is now a possibility, still not keen on the auto though, guess I'm just old.

The big demand is in trucks like Ranger and Hilux and SUV.

Passat Alltracks are in a unique market that no one currently wants.

But it’s a lot of car for the $$.
For me the full size spare which an Alltrack has is a deal clincher.

The SUV Tiguan does not have a full size spare and a smaller boot than a Passat Alltrack.

i went for the Tiggy due to the higher seating position. was easier to put a 6 month old in a car capsule/seat.
am used to the space saver from my golf r & GT Sport days

About 15 years ago I could get from Sydney to Melbourne in one tank in my VY 6 cylinder Commadore. Different story around town though!
In 1994 I drove from Rye on the Mornington Peninsula on a Saturday morning via the Coast road and up through the Snowy mountains in a VN Commodore. Kicking myself for not refuelling in Bombala and just managed to make it to Nimmitabel. I thought it was ~640kms but Google maps has it at ~613kms.

I may have been possible to get more if driving on the freeway all the way instead of the stop start trip I did.
