Someone's in my seat

always need a sense of humour when it comes to flying............ And people !!
Could not agree more.. Some of the things I have seen the only possible reaction is to laugh. I do wonder how some people manage to function daily when they struggle to understand basic concepts like staying seated until the aircraft has come to a complete stop and seatbelt sign turned off.

Don't get me started on the absolute morons that hit the touch screen for the whole flight - how can a person be so inconsiderate and not think the person in front does not enjoy their head getting tapped for 12 hours? This is a major pet peeve with this new IFE, people are ignorant in how it should be used.

How difficult is it to listen to an announcement and board when your row is called - in Buenos Aires this concept is more a myth, it's pretty much every man and his dog forming a nice sphere shape around the boarding area before the business class passengers have even had a chance to hear an announcement for their boarding.

What about the ignorant folks that feel it is so smart to stand 1 inch from the luggage carousel so no one else can see anything - how about every one steps back a few meters in a zigzag formation so that every person has a chance to see the baggage and walk forward WHEN THEY SEE THEIR BAG COMING. Does my head in - sorry for rant....

There are people who are arrogant and think the world revolves around them.
There are people who are stressed/uspet/very distracted due to other factors and get confused.
There are airlines that do not enforce procedures and policies: then many pax think that the rules are not valid and just ignore them.

All contribute to these problems. The airlines need to ensure staff enforce any rules, and back the staff if pax complain (a major reason for not doing so is being ciriticised for upsetting DYKWIA pax). Perhaps the major issue with not enforcing rules and annoucnements is that when it really matters, e.g. in an emergency, many will not take the announcements seriously, if they listen at all, and that endangers all of us.

I try to assume the error is an honest mistake and only ramp up the assertiveness if the response reveals that the transgressor is a category 1 arrogant offender.
Regardless, it is rude and unacceptable to claim another's seat and then ask to change. The ideal time to ask is once the rightful occupier arrives and before s/he settles in too much.

I think that you are completely right to insist on the seat that you had booked: as you indicated, they should have raised the issue with the airline.

But I'm sure my bag is going to be one of the one of the first ones to come out (obviously that cannot apply while in Ausralia).

I have often thought about a imposing an "administrative fee" on a request by a fellow passenger to change seats.
I cannot find anything in my usual airline's ticket conditions that would cause me problems.

The few would depend on various factors obviously but as it is airside, no GST, taxes or other surcharges would be imposed. CC not accepted.

$50 for swooping a similar seat?

I hate that so much. Many airports have a line you have to stand behind until you see your luggage, but it's worthless without enforcement

Reminds me of this video:

I find the kids most annoying - they stand in-front and you risk decapitating them as you swing a 32kg bag out of the carousel. They should enforce the no kids beyond the red line. (if there is a redline). I suspect they would rather concentrate on other more serious activities - like catching smugglers and terrorists.

Holy Flying Spaghetti Monster! I've seen semi-circular shapes, but spherical!??!

Going completely OT,

but Symmetry and patterns are part of the natural world:

bilateral symmetry of the face
sixfold symmetry of the snowflake
radial symmetry of a water splash
starfish and flower have fivefold symmetry
sea anemomes have rotational symmetry...

...spirals - fibonacci, fermat
fractals
buckmisterfullerenes
tessellations...

However - and importantly there is an implication of a lack of intelligence which perhaps is whats lacking in the "sphere" of passengers.

Ok back on topic.

Nothing worse than having to push through that seething smelly mass of whY pax to collect your bag. Don't they know they think their bag is coming out in the next 10 mins anyway. Back off!! DYKWIA!!

I think there should be a separate section of the carousel for premium pax or even a whole separate carousel. Or a Carousel Attendant who passes premium pax their bags!! Or seats with champers while you wait and the Attendant collects your bags!! Or your bags just delivered to the Arrivals lounge!! If they can take my bag in a separate check-in, they should be able to deliver my bag through a separate check-out!!

:)

It's a running joke amongst the parents at my sons' school (All boys) that the average IQ of the boys in a group is inversely proportional to the number of boys in the group. Maybe there is a correlation to pax?

Usually at LAX there is someone who grabs the F bags and put them in a separate section. Nice touch

Its happened to me. Waited for my F bags with the yellow stickers and suffering the ignominy of still waiting when other bags have almost all gone. walked around to the other side and they were in a neat pile.

Leave it on the carousel. Ill get it myself but like Moindardt's idea of premium checkout so long as it does not take longer or require a tip in Lotfap

There is a correlation, and I think it is caused by the fact that in any large enough group of people, there's going to be one dumb person, or at least one reasonable person who is having a bad day or doing something accidentally. So one person does something dumb. Then there's a tranche of people who think "Oh well, if they're doing that, so will I". And so it goes!

OT again but society these days expect conformity and a stable low energy state - whats easiest and effortless.

However I advocate a "outlier approach". Note australianfrequentflyer.com.au promotes in essence this approach.

Most passengers are conformists and find tconformity to be an easy stable low energy state.

Its just another way of looking at problems in nature even Seat selection.

Still I'd like to see a sphere of passengers, such a feat would require much coordination and conformity. Surely.

Yes but not only that, as you are an "outlier" you will be able to recognise all sorts of patterns in passenger movements - all requiring the minimum of energy and intelligence.

Fly QF into Melbourne. The baggage handlers have it all worked out. Priority DWKIA luggage comes out last so the hoi polloi are not in your way anymore!

I ask nicely and get the offenders to lift my 32kg bag/s off the carousel for me :): if they are so keen to be so close they can help! All the more so when they stand in front of me. This usually creates some space.
