Someone's in my seat

I think that you are completely right to insist on the seat that you had booked: as you indicated, they should have raised the issue with the airline.

What if it's the pilot asking you/telling you to move instead so that they can use it in-flight?

Most will agree they will move on the instruction of the cabin/flight crew. However this should not occur because upon closure of the aircraft doors, all passengers will already be seated and those aircraft with passenger seats cordoned off as crew rest seats will already be blocked and preallocated to the crew.

You would think that, but unfortunately that wasn't the case recently hence my utter disgust with AA on a recent JFK-LHR flight in J (top cabin on the 772 refurb).

Where were you sent?

(hopefully not to the flight deck:shock:). But seriously this should be a complaint to the airline. However Im not sure you will get anywhere with them.

Most likely all of the crew rest areas were occupied by the hardworking AA crew and the pilot had nowhere to go, hence you were evicted?.

What was your status level with AA?

Had 1A, sent to 6D and told either take that seat or get another flight (1D was available - I preferred a window (reverse herringbone 1-2-1 config, so more private) but none were available.

This only came about as the doors had closed and we were getting ready to go, I then questioned whether I could get an amenity kit and menu as didn't seem to have one waiting for me. From that many things ensued..... CSM then came over, told me I was a liar and I did not have that seat. I produced my BP and mentioned I preallocated it many months ago. Continued to be told I was a liar and told me to move.

A few minutes later the FA actually serving my part of the cabin came back and said it was a mistake, I was right and to stay in 1A.

Then a few minutes later..... CSM came back again and asked why I hadn't moved. I asked where I was expected to move to - 6D I was told. Anyway, a minor heated discussion occurred and I then gave in and picked up my things to move to 6D. Well, 6D doesn't exist on the plane. My now my temper was getting very difficult to contain - let me tell you! Turned around and noted that I was not impressed with the treatment, especially being told to move or else as well as being called a liar. I was then told I could sit in 1D so moved there (wife was in 3A).

Anyway, shortly after all this happened the door had opened again and the station manager came onboard to apologise to the way the CSM spoke to me, etc. and offered me AA miles as a way of saying sorry. Said they'd post in 48-72 hours, however nothing has posted yet. Will give it a few days before putting something over to AA. I should do it anyway, as the CSM has no place to call a passenger a liar regardless of what they think. I took a photo of my BP for keepsake too, you know, just to prove again that I was right I had 1A as MY seat ;)

Another example of US cabin crew rage.

Dont expect to see the points. The "station manager" probably does not have the authority to offer gratis points

Less reason to sit on AA72 transpac.

Such behaviour though completely wrong may in part be due to the poor wages these employees earn. The airline industry shakeup has not been kind to their employees.

Could not agree more.. Some of the things I have seen the only possible reaction is to laugh. I do wonder how some people manage to function daily when they struggle to understand basic concepts like staying seated until the aircraft has come to a complete stop and seatbelt sign turned off.
You haven't travelled on SQ in Asia? People get up when aircraft is still taxiing to gate. FAs say nothing. FAs do nothing.

Don't get me started on the absolute morons that hit the touch screen for the whole flight - how can a person be so inconsiderate and not think the person in front does not enjoy their head getting tapped for 12 hours? This is a major pet peeve with this new IFE, people are ignorant in how it should be used.
This absolute moron likes to play games on the IFE. Some newer IFE have touch screens.

How difficult is it to listen to an announcement and board when your row is called - in Buenos Aires this concept is more a myth, it's pretty much every man and his dog forming a nice sphere shape around the boarding area before the business class passengers have even had a chance to hear an announcement for their boarding.
My preference is to board last. I guess that's OK?
What about the ignorant folks that feel it is so smart to stand 1 inch from the luggage carousel so no one else can see anything - how about every one steps back a few meters in a zigzag formation so that every person has a chance to see the baggage and walk forward WHEN THEY SEE THEIR BAG COMING. Does my head in - sorry for rant....
I am usually one of the first to carousel and stand back a metre. People think that gives them a right to come and stand in front of me. I ask them to move not in a nice way. "Don't stand in front of me!". Works best when one leg is on carousel as that deters most although in Asia a lot of people struggle with manners.

Not critical of your post but we all have our opinions and reasons for doing things. I fly a lot. I am more efficient than most people. I am considerate towards most people. Treat me with the same consideration and we won't have an issue.

Not good, the problem is a business with 80,000 employees, yes I kid you not, there is going be be a few hundered not worthy to be there. Getting rid of them is a problem.

Best of luck.

Matt

"Don't stand in front of me!".

What sort of response do you get and can you provide the airport(s) to give a bit of context.

I too am thinking I should be more forthright in these matters. Is is very rude to be standing in front of someone who was there first.

They quietly move out of the way because they can sense the angriness in my voice.

I am standing behind the line waiting for luggage along with most people with manners (most Asian airports have a line about 1 metre from carousel) with trolley behind me and some dope thinks they can push in and stand in front of me so I cannot see the luggage coming out.

I have very little tolerance for those who think the world revolves around them. I constantly wait for 10-15 minutes to get into a lift as people just love to push in. But when you push the luggage trolley in front of the opening lift doors they look at me as if I am the one that has done something wrong.

I think we are actually in agreement. I have no problem with people using IFE - my issue is with those who hit the touch screen so hard it moves the head rest. If the control is available then people should be considerate enough to use it instead of tapping the screen and moving the head rest in front of them. When I do choose to use the touch screen I make sure I touch it lightly to prevent the person in front of me feeling my tapping every few seconds. I also follow the treat others how you would like to be treated.

I am lost for words.

Shocking !

"... Continued to be told I was a liar and told me to move..."

Crew has the operational reasons to move pax but calling others "liar" would hardly qualify as one.

Put on AA FB page with the flight / CSM details to see if you can get an official response - with your 1A BP of course.

Only thing I wasn't able to grab was her name. Was low on the list of priorities during the kerfuffle and then she literally hid elsewhere for the rest of the flight (not that I went looking, I went to sleep pretty much as soon as we took off)....

Wow that's an absolute shocker. Wonder who called the airport manager to come onboard then - obviously not the CSM.

Maybe someone on FT may know what AA's policy is for tech crew rest seats however generally they would be at the rear of the cabin and should be blocked off to prevent pax from selecting it.

Have sent a tweet - if I don't get a satisfactory response then I'll lodge it via their formal channel.

Usually at LAX there is someone who grabs the F bags and put them in a separate section. Nice touch

Its happened to me. Waited for my F bags with the yellow stickers and suffering the ignominy of still waiting when other bags have almost all gone. walked around to the other side and they were in a neat pile.
Happened to me in Boston also.

Fly SQ 2x returns a month and this is very rare. If people do stand up I've seen them yelling at them (usually in Chinese) to sit down, only once have I seen them do nothing. If you want to really experience this sort of behaviour and every other transgression under the sun, fly domestically within mainland China. Smoking (presumably in either toilets or the coughpit), standing during taxiing to take off, standing immediately the rear wheels touched down *before front wheels do), low number of passengers using seatbelts inflight - even during heavy turbulence with crew service suspended. Curiously though never had a problem yet with someone sitting in my seat.

This is like the flight I had from LHR to Aus with an obnoxious 10 year old kicking my seat all the way. The mother did nothing to make the brat behave, even after I asked nicely for the constant kicking to cease… Another selfish adult in the making

You are a better person than me. That mother would not have heard the end of it from me until the little cough stopped
