Having just returned from a month in NYC, I feel the need to return again next May, as I did after last May's trip.

I have some VA points and wonder what would be the best route to use them on SQ J to NYC?

CBR-SIN-FRA-JFK! Then you'll get to depart from CBR when it starts up (novelty factor there for sure, right...).

The arrival and departure times into SIN a bit brutal. A short overnight flight CBR-SIN is not a good start to such a long layover. Is WL, but may get lucky in 11 months(?)

FLIGHT SQ292

CBR 23:30 Canberra 01 May (Mon) , Canberra
SIN 05:50 Singapore 02 May (Tue) ,Changi Intl

Layover time: 18hrs 5mins

FLIGHT SQ26

SIN 23:55 Singapore 02 May (Tue) , Changi Int lTerminal 3

FRA 06:40 Frankfurt 03 May (Wed) ,Rhein Main

FRA 08:40 Frankfurt 03 May (Wed) ,Rhein Main

Take an extra day in SIN making layover 42hrs and get a proper nights sleep before continuing.

SQ availability opens up at all sorts of weird and wonderful times so if you like the idea of it, keep an eye on availability. Waitlisting is good, but I've had availability open up and waitlists not clear so it's worth checkin once a week.

The times ex-CBR are pretty coughpy considering length of flight. Even in J that's not going to be a joyous night in the sky, particularly with angle-flat beds in J.

That said, my parents live a couple of hours out of CBR and for them, being able to get on a flight after work and wake up in SIN without any dom connection will be a dream come true – despite the bad timings and less than ideal (but still great) J product.

So I would absolutely second this. Spend that night in SIN, hit up a hawker centre and just enjoy the city's brilliant food. 20 minutes in a taxi the next morning and you're back on track.

It's a long trip to JFK but SQ J should more than make up for that :p

Let us know how you go!

(Curious to know where you're located, too!)

I have enough points to get to JFK in J on SQ, but need to work out now how to get back. Once, I book SQ I will check back very often to see if seats have opened up whilst keeping the WL. As CBR-SIN has no F, the SQ site automatically quoted me J all the way. If I had wanted J on the CBR-SIN leg and F on from there, would I need to book it in 2 separate tkts? Yes, I think maybe even 2-3 days in SIN is a good idea as it's a while since a stopover there.

What ... angled beds :(

Yep, you can either do it as two reservations (J + F) or book it as F all the way (has to be done over the phone) and you basically just travel J instead of F on the CBR-SIN leg. From memory, the points difference between these options is marginal and there shouldn't be any issue being on separate tickets as the bookings get linked.

The other factor is the availability for CBR-SIN-FRA-JFK will be different to CBR-SIN and SIN-JFK separately, so you can use this to your advantage too. Often the availability is open separately but not together.

In terms of getting home? Oh boy – so many fun options but really depends on how many points you're sitting on.

F Saver all the way CBR-SIN-FRA-JFK on one booking - no brainer if available - absolutely no consideration for 2 bookings.

As mrs.mart said you need to call KF to book or indeed to WL.

Rather than beat yourself up try out of SYD and always consider flying the first leg during the day. We have found our bodies appreciate this when the flying time is up around 18 or more hours.

OK, will see if I have enough points. What I need is a cc sign on bonus to boost what I have.

Yes, cove this is what I always end up doing. Out of CBR would be novel though.

Ok, thanks, need to call up to book and maybe do separate sectors.

The difference is 23,375 points (=93,500 + 46,750 - 116,875). Better to do it as one trip and pay extra ($100 or so?) for a stopover, then you can use the separate availability in the same way.

Thanks for doing the numbers – for some reason I thought the difference was less. Yep, F all the way!

Great, thanks you two. Will certainly try to get sufficient points to get F all the way, and a little $100 stopover in SIN.

I regularly buy a bott of Baileys to take to China with me at S$25 and use 1 x Changi $20 voucher abd Duty Free store readily accept CC for diff - would they accept CC for $1 diff? Would anybody? YES Sean I understand your explanation spells it out very clearly and it was just an example - hopefully would realistically think carding a buck was reasonable - NFI what is a reasonable small amt to card in SIN Duty Free but no prob with S$5.

Good to know. Never tried to do it with a card for any amount, but the info could come in handy in future. Thanks.

Anyone know which SQ from SIN-MEL has the new F seat? SQ227 is according to Ausbt but wondering bout SQ217 departing at 10:45am. Plane config not guarantee, i know but good to know which one display the new seat i.e. 227 vs 217. Thanks.

This example is not explicitly detailed in the FAQ, but does anyone have any experience with getting the voucher on two one-way e-tickets, both with transits in SIN and both inbound/outbound legs on SQ, which does not originate and return to the same country?
ie. LHR-SIN-SYD, then SYD-SIN-FRA, all 4 legs on SQ.

There is nothing to say that the above example would be excluded, but I was after any actual experiences that anyone has had.
