SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

There is now a permanent 'chef' in MEL SKL - any probs with food and you really must alert him / her - the new lounge staff are really excellent.

Good to know. I reckon that the bread and cheese had just been left out for too long, really. Probably surplus from SQ208. The hot dishes were fine.

My daughter and son in law will be travelling to LHR on SQ in a fortnight (in Y) with a three year old and 6 week old. They can't find anywhere on the SQ site what the baggage allowance for the 3 yo is. Can anyone help please? (and in case you wonder, yes I was asked to go and gracefully declined. If anyone has any sense they will avoid SQ208 on 30 Aug.....I adore her but the kid's hell on wheels!)

The 6 week old gets 10kg (plus a pram or pusher + car seat or carry cot). The 3yo gets standard luggage allowance of 30kg. For children 2 or older, it's just a normal ticket, so normal luggage allowances apply.

SQ seems to define an infant as up to 2yo and anything over as a child where they don't distinguish baggage allowances so I'd say they would get the full whack esp if they're occupying a paid seat.

EDIT: beaten by " " that much... :)

This is more related to Melbourne Airport ground staff then SIA.

Yes, have encountered this on a few airlines at MEL. To be fair, the staff did unload the business class and star alliance priority luggage first, then some non-priority luggage with what looked like rush tags on them. And then F, which is not a good look for genuine paid F passengers (for hangers on like me, well, you know whatever).

I missed this earlier. We must have arrived in MEL around the same time Saturday morning? The luggage from EK404 was about the slowest I have experienced in Australia. Must have been close to 30 minutes? We were already ~45 minutes late

SQ 227 is just over an hour earlier, so just missed it. I nearly booked a sale fare on QF8404 (EK404), so should have been on the same flight as you - but just as I was about to book it, something came up in the office, came back an hour later and EK 404 had been zeroed out in all classes ( this was just after the EK incident, I suspect the ripple effect of delayed pax etc may have caused them to zero out the flight - as they did with all DXB-MEL flights).

For your delay, I have found at MEL over the years if you get in late and another flight around the same time is on time (that uses same ground handlers) you will inevitably have to wait until that flight is unloaded first.

Anyone know if SQ will interline bags to TK out of SYD, on separate tickets? (Specifically, SQ Y to TK J on a 15 hour connection in BKK.)

the only useful benefit i see is a bonus of 25% miles earnt.

anyone know if this will also increase my elite miles (IE help my status quicker) or only my normal miles?

I always thought it did, but now not so sure...

"Elite miles are derived from the actual miles flown, plus any applicable booking class bonuses earned on tickets that are eligible to earn miles. Elite miles cannot be used for award flights, upgrade awards or purchase of airfares.

The number of Elite miles you earn on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir depends on the booking class you fly. The earning rates vary and some booking classes, such as G on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir, won't earn you miles."

You can play around with the Accrual Calculator here - https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/ppsclub-krisflyer/miles/how-to-earn/

That is a NO. Here is the answer daft009.
"Tier bonuses and promotional bonuses do not count as Elite miles. Elite miles will not be earned if you do not credit your miles to a KrisFlyer account or if the flight is on a non-mileage accruable fare."

Your booking class bonus however does add to your Elite Miles.

Also note that the 25% bonus does not apply on Economy Super Saver (10% earn fares in K & V booking class) or Economy Saver (50% earn fares in N & Q booking class).

thanks guys,

so if I book premium economy which gives 110% and i get my 25% bonus from being silver for normal miles.. that's a nice advantage :D

Yeah, i figured the saver tickets wouldn't offer the bonus.

Bit of quick advice plse - I'm looking at making a bkg for the billy lid's Birthday one way SYD SIN DPS next week. I can see a suite but it reverts to mixed class as DPS has no F. if I phone SQ can I get her the same PNR mixed class?

Yes, i have booked the same myself over the phone MEL SIN DPS - one pnr. Remember to make sure you get the 15% discount!

Thanks, - so it is configured like suites without the little privacy screens? I have been in suites, but not on a 777.

Perfectly fine! This is SQ F, not like the difference between booking Qantas suites but ending up with Skybed Mk1! Ninety per cent of the SQ factor is the crew. That doesn't change depending on aircraft configuration.
