SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Lizzi - my pleasure - don't forget to report on your experiences.

Will do! This will be my second try at SQ F - but the first time (HKG-SFO) I was recovering from a tummy bug I picked up in China so I only managed to try two glasses of bubbles in the whole flight! I'm sure this one will be much more salubrious :)

dd really? You would choose dep port on SQ based mainly on menu? That's a new one - would love to see the menus from LAX / JFK / SFO on same day.

definitely. we'll be in IAH so could go via DME, which we did last year in J but it felt like an age. we can also find a reason to be in LAX (NRT), SFO (HKG), or JFK (FRA). all options result in 32-36 hours to get home so may as well maximise the experience/ sleep options.

at this point in time i would convert my citi points to AsiaMiles and book direct on QF to halve the travel time but unfortunately i'm short and i don't want to wait and watch the availability disappear!

being a bit lazy and happy to do some reading if someone can please point me in the right direction - can i have a tag flight to an SQ flight. e.g. SIN-FRA-JFK-BOS? what are the point requirements etc?

how about if those additional tag flights aren't yet open for booking? do i have to pay a change fee when they come available?

thanks!

in case anyone comes back through the thread...

tag flights possible using this award chart - http://www.singaporeair.com/pdf/ppsclub_krisflyer/charts/StarAlliance_RoundTrip_Aug14.pdf

can book flights for portions that are open, then cancel and re-book when the additional flights come open. US$30/ticket.

did find it a bit difficult to talk through with the operator and availability seemed to be exactly the same as online so probably best to just feed them the flight details.

dd just arrived into MEL this morn - I did a bit of research over last week re your ret USA nect year - general consensus was LAX-NRT-SIN possibly superior food offerings to IAH-DME-SIN - was noted by several SQ cabin crew that meals ex USA ports never spectacular - but NRT usually very good. Was not a lot of hoopla re DME meals - one crew member did not he saw rabbit stew on offer in F a couple years back.

TBH if I had a choice it would be JFK-FRA-SIN - but decision is totally yours - best of luck.

thanks Cruiser! yes JFK would've been first choice but it's already at waitlist, at almost 11 months out! LAX & IAH still open, but since we'll be based in IAH figure it's cheaper to just start there, unless i can get a tag flight added at the start included as part of the award flight and save about $500. OTOH a 10+ hour flight in suites is something we haven't yet experienced, only the SYD-SIN leg so perhaps it's worthwhile.

trying to lock something in pre-xmas so can give the missus a nice 'present' even though it's not til late next year!

Forgive me father for I am a simpleton! Cancelled SQ F MEL-SIN-PVG and replaced with CX J MEL-SIN then KA J SIN-PVG - more pts / less $s - jeez it hurt but how else do I burn those QFF pts that the CC companies keep throwing at me?

'Tis the season of good will to all men.
So forgiveness granted ...but don't make a habit of it. If you do it this time next year people will accuse you of crossing to the "dark side";)

Tis only o/w at this point in time - I'll search return in a day or so - might just go down that path again if available.

Do QF experts read this thread? A330 ex MNL next May - will that have the new lay flat seats by then? Tks in advance.

No such thing as a free lunch kids - you gotta earn them - in 20 words or less just describe how Cruiser Elite is a much more handsome, intelligent and engaging character then JohnK, penegal, Tom Vexille or tuapekastar - now how easy is that?

Contestants: Please do me a favour and before entering actually check that the metal you will be flying will enable usage - I would rather see someone get some fun rather than them go to waste.

"Your boyish good looks combined with an Adonis body is just too much for the competition".
My niece and sister in law are going Suites on 29th to London because they can. Seems a waste for a 16 year old but she will find it difficult to go back to economy sometime in the future.

Ah Cruiser , I have never had the pleasure of encountering your good self but I have heard on the grape vine that it is a truly magnificent frame . Flying MEL to MUC and back LHR to MEL all before 31 Jan , would appreciate the card. Cheers and have a happy new year

"Whilst I have not had the chance to meet CruiserElite, his brain Braun and flying in suites mean he cannot be beat"

I will be flying on SQ232 Syd-Sin on January 16 and would love to experience the novelty of having WiFi internet access on board.
Thanks

What you talkin about Willis? I think you might need change your handle mate - wannabearapper might be more appropriate.

Anyways guess you have fulfilled criteria - pm name and addy and will send you one - any more takers?

Sister in law and niece are doing a Suites run to London tonight and they were impressed with The Private Room in Changi.

Did you receive the voucher cove? Did SIL and Neice pick up their Changi $ vouchers en route?

Speaking of TPR the menu there seriously needs refreshing - seems like forever since any changes - fine if you are a Lobster lover but that ain't me. I actually left TPR and ate in F Lounge last transit. F Lounge were serving 2004 Charles Heidsieck (I think year is correct - delicious)

wannabearapper - yep I got your pm - I'll post it off in morn ok?

Only the gods know for sure. I imagine the lack of serious competition on that route makes it highly doubtful...
