SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

The voucher for Internet arrived this morning so it missed them by seven hours. I may mail it to them in London when I get home early in 2015. Australia Post is into snail mail.
Yes they both had the SQ dollar vouchers.

Only the gods know for sure. I imagine the lack of serious competition on that route makes it highly doubtful...
Thanks yohy I have SQ J booked but QF showing J avail and am having trouble burning QF pts but it's via SYD so will stick with SQ this time.

Seriously of thinking jumping ship. I have just read this thread from go to whoa and I am still confused. What is the difference between paying with Krisflyer miles and redeeming reward flights. Aren't they the same thing? As well when I look up Reward flights it only shows flights available using Krisflyer miles. Do I have to have the necessary points in my Krisflyer account to be able to look at the availability? For what it is worth I only have 1400 miles in my account however I have a number of Velocity miles I can transfer over. Thanks in advance.

Bolt...

You can search for awards even with 0 miles. SQ has a system where it lets you book the award flights at their 'saver' rate, which is the cheapest in terms of miles. But you then have the option of going for a standard award or a full award (don't), in case where if you must fly on the day but still need a award ticket. You'll get this option when you search for flights after checking the 'redeem miles' tickbox.

As for paying with Krisflyer miles, this is the same as paying for a paid ticket but instead with your miles. The conversion rate is not as good compared to getting a mileage ticket but you'll still earn the miles from the flight. Not entirely sure whether you'd get PPS value though, as I never tried this myself (its poor value). Others may be able to comment more on this one.

OK, pretty new to the whole Krisflyer thing myself as Virgin Domestic Frequent flyer, so like quite a few others I have become very interested since the ability to transfer points. Hopefully I will be politely corrected if I am wrong :)

I believe "paying with Krisflyer miles" is like getting an Any seat reward, basicly a full price fare using Miles and as such requiring a HUGE amount of miles.

- As well when I look up Reward flights it only shows flights available using Krisflyer miles.

Because "Reward" flights can only be booked using Miles, you can not pay for these or do a Points + Play

-Do I have to have the necessary points in my Krisflyer account to be able to look at the availability?

No not in my experience

If you have a specific reward/result you are looking for I am sure if you post the question lots of people will be willing to assist. What I have learnt with Krisflyer if your looking at using points is, you want to look for a Reward Fare (Not paying with Miles) You want to book a Saver Reward (unless you have a huge amount of points or non flexible travel times) Find your Reward saver, transfer your Velocity points and away you go.

Wasted 10min writing a response only to find someone beat me to it. On the plus seems like most of my comments where on the money.

Thanks for this, I think I am getting the jist of it now. It's interesting that I have found some reward flights in April on the Singapore site but they are not available on the VA site. I aso found some flights on the VA site however they were greyed out and couldn't be clicked on. (random flights not related to the flights in April) Not sure why this is.

Thanks again for your help. I am sure I will have many more questions to get my head around this. :)

It's very common to see rewards on the Krisfyer site and VA not to have the same Availability, I believe SA is notorious for not releasing reward flights to partners.

I'm getting a bit excited as I can see some potential here. One question I have is the difference between First class on all the different plane types. I have never flown First class before (on any airline) and we have enough points to give it ago. I have flown J with Singapore and experienced it on the A380 and I also have experienced their J on either the A330 or the 777. Can't remember which model it was but it was old and a bit disappointing (SIN-DEL) If I understand their website they appear to be updating their First class across the fleet.

My question is how do you know which level of First Class you are getting on the 777-200, 777-300, 777-300ER. (I have checked out the videos on their website so I have an idea of the level of comfort)

Thanks again...

A380 Suites, 777-300ER in First then either of these in J is the way I rate the cabins.

There are a few first products. A new first and just first on the 777-300ER (77W) From my understanding only the SIN-LHR route on 77W has the NF. There is suites on A380 and old first on the 777-300.

SYD has actually been getting the 77WN quite frequently these days.
