SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Hi,
Just have an upgrade question

I have an upcoming flight from MEL-SIN-MNL in J for 2 pax. Just wondering, if I waitlist for F, do I need to have the points in my account available or can I transfer them from Amex after getting notification of the upgrade? How much time (if any) do you have to get the points into the account? If there's only space for 1, will I be able to decline the upgrade (my wife would kill me if I went without her).

Thanks

You had mixed class rdpt F/J on one rdpt priced at F rate? If YES then you are entitled to TPR access prior to your SIN-LGK sector unless there has been a sudden policy change by SQ on this exact matter.

Did you explain to Lounge staff your situation?

Yes, it was a mixed class redemption priced at the F rate. I explained the situation and that I had been advised it was essentially an F ticket for lounge purposes. They simply apologised and advised there must've been some miscommunication, however allowed us to finish our meals and said they were happy to just demote us to the F lounge instead of J lounge (how kind haha).

I don't really mind, we got to sit in TPR, have a meal and a champagne. We will get access on the way home so it doesn't matter.

I think SQ would have been aware of that given the OP was sent to the F lounge and not the J lounge. This was a transit of 36 hours. I think the F lounge is still a generous SQ policy for such a long connection. Those benefits aren't replicated by other star airlines.

Would be interesting to get an official written policy if this is allowed.

We weren't really directed to TPR. I presented both my Suites and J boarding pass at the Silverkris entry and asked if this was the entry for TPR. They glanced at the Suites tickets and said it was, then directed us to the lounge. They did mention something about coming straight from the SYD-SIN leg but I didn't catch if it was a question or not, so just mentioned we had been in SIN for the day. It wasn't until about 25 mins after entering the lounge that they came over with the news.

CE you lobster bandit!

Only you would know the delivery schedules!

infinity PH Rare back in TPR or they brought to you from F?

Lobster can be ordered for brekky if there is any left from night before. There are 4 food deliveries to SKL Lounge daily - seafood is not delivered til 1st daily delivery mid morn - if Lobster supplies exhausted previous night then you are out of lucj until first delivery. But again don't feel constrained by menu - if the chefs have the ingredient they will prepare you anything.

For a connection to MI metal?
I would have said absolutely 100%. As I said first time I have ever heard of it - maybe dec540 can give us some more info as to the exact conversation that took place and was there full explanation as to reasons why they were shown the door.

Edit: Already done. Dec540 please fire off a query to [email protected] fully explaining your experience and seeking clarification - it will definitely benefit others here with similar itineraries.

TPR does indeed closed for cleaning once last pax has dep lounge to catch last SQ flt out - usually Moscow flt I think - it reopens 05:30. Staff would only be trying to alert you to this fact as SKL F and J stays open 24hr and some pax think TPR does also.

As for the removal of the Dep Board from TPR I still think this is lunacy. I emailed SQ and gave them my thoughts - their response was that SQ TPR staff are moving to a 'More Personal' approach in keeping pax informed of deps - clearly this did not work in this instance. Bazzi please make sure you send feedback to [email protected]

Have expressed my displeasure on this

Please bring it back

coughpy painting in their place too

infinity, thanks for your travel diary for the day - it gives me some ideas for what to do in early May when we land about the same time on SQ345 and then depart a number of hours later on SQ221.

Petercr

Sq221 departing around 8.30pm is much more civilised.

SQ 231 only has the supper menu ( still can use BTC) but no caviar.

I have have done SQ 221 and I recall caviar is on the menu

Hey Duffa.

You obviously are a man of good taste!

There was some genuine jet lag going on to put in this performance!

Or the repeated, loud sniffing or should I say SNORTING throughout the flight.
Passengers barking orders to staff, rather than making a polite request

Oops, isn't there a thread for this elsewhere???

When I came back from town to the TPR I was in thongs!

Not a ? asked in TPR entry!

Maybe QF can can learn form this in a hot climate?

Duck Confit with a nice Bordeaux!

any BTC on J advice for HKG-SIN-SYD?

A transit of 36 hours on an international itinerary is considered a stop, not a transit. Regardless, access to the F lounge on a non-connection is generous - OW do not do this, not sure if Skyteam or any other airline does this.

Seems the Bordeaux is gone from TPR ;(((

Only a Barillo ( Bordeaux style from Italy- quite nice) and an Aussie Shiraz ( No thanks I leave Australia to avoid our wines and try something different!)

Please bring back the Pichon de le Lande or serve the Estornel ( that they serve when flying)

Firstly this is solely referencing SQ's policy on mixed class rdpts - what OW or any other alliance do is totally irerelevant.

A month or 2 back I did spend considerable time with SKL Manager on Duty in T3 specifically discussing TPR/F Lounge access for pax with stopovers included in mixed class rdpts - specifically F/J mixed class.

The policy is clear - if you have paid F rates for a mixed class rdpt then ALL F benefits flow - including TPR access. Basically you can access TPR as often and as for long as you desire during your stopover in SIN. Manager on Duty did admit does look a tad generous but their policy is set. If you stay airside in you can come and go as much as you want.

If you enter SIN There are restrictions on number of times you can enter / leave SIN - I think only once per day - so yes you could stay in SIN and return to TPR for your 'free' dinner and drinks daily entirety you stopover - totally extreme but yes this is possible.

I must admit however I did not discuss what situation would be if the J sector on the mixed class rdpt was on MI.

CEyou are right on the leaving airport aspect.

You will need a minimum of 4 hours from immigration exit to being back airside for yoru flight.

You are only allowed 1 day exit into Singapore then back to airport to connect with yoru flight

You cannot do 2 exits and return

You cannot enter the secure area of Changi each and every day during an extended stopover as you'd need a boarding pass (only available at 48 hours) and even within that 48 hours you'd have difficulty as per the following:

CRIME ADVISORY - MISUSE OF BOARDING PASS IS AN OFFENCE

Since January 2015, 9 cases of Misuse of Boarding Pass have been reported at the Changi Airport and 13 persons have been arrested in connection to offences under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act.

The transit areas of Changi Airport are gazetted as Protected Places. Police would like to remind all passengers who enter the transit hall with a boarding pass should only be there for the purpose of travelling to their next destinations. Those who abuse their boarding pass to enter the transit areas to meet friends and/or celebrities, with no intention to proceed to their next destination, are liable for an offence under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act. The offender may be prosecuted in Court and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term of 2 years or to both.

Mixed itineraries F->J even F->Y are documented by SQ as allowing lounge access, provided your onward connection is to SQ metal, and certainly 'transit' is not an issue. For an extended stopover connecting to MI (even SQ if we're talking 72 hours later for example), I'd like to see the response the OP gets if they decide to write in.

I am planning to stay at the Crowne Plaza Changi in May 2017 for a day before continuing to London with SQ.
Just to make sure, i have to clear immigration, collect my baggage and the hotel is within walking distance from T3 arrival right ?

Yes, yes, and yes. Just head to the left as you come out. Very nice hotel.

The idea of traveling during the day to Singapore and overnighting at the Crowne Plaza Changi has worked out really well for us. Leaving Perth at 1am is not what we like doing to pick up the 9am flight.

Hi Cove, the good thing about living in Perth is you are only 4 hours away from Singapore, giving you extra hours to enjoy Crowne Plaza :)

It is usually about 5 hours to Singapore from Perth. It is an easy ride during the day but there are no connecting flights when we take the afternoon flight. Next morning we walk over to TPR for breakfast which works really good. Cutting a few hours off the long haul is pretty nice for us when we are heading for London or Los Angeles.

Normally to add any WL you need sufficient pts to finalisae booking if it clears - that is for online and to get 15% disc. You can also call KF calgarychris and ask them to add your WL manually but you will then forgo the 15% disc - at least I think that is how it will work - I have never added a F WL to a J booking so cannot really help you - unless someone else here has done this only advice I can give is call KF.

Again time frames for adding pts I cannot help with as I always have plenty in reserve. If you waitlist 2 seats then you will not get 1 upgraded and the other not unless they are separate Booking References.

You don't need to collect your baggage, just book that through to London. All you need is your carry on with a change of cloths &, of course, your swimmers for the pool.

And I would take ear plugs and also request a room not facing or near the new construction zone - ironically this is where some of the CP's Quiet Zone rooms are located and where we were last weekend. I'd rather listen to the churn of the jet engines all night than the banging (pole drivers) that we listened to all night.

Much appreciated. I don't really have enough points to speculate putting them into SQ from Amex, so I will hold off on the dream for now. One of these days I'll get suites...This will be only our second time in J (once with SQ in 2004 and once with QF in 2016), so we're still enjoying the new experience that comes with that...Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate these forums.
