SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Mrscove and I were thinking the 777 with 4 first class seats on the US run would be less enjoyable than the A380 Suite. Then I received a message from our youngest son saying he loved his super wide seat. Now we are thinking of what to pack.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Piper Rare was served after a shower.

Despite the brekky menu, I requested the lobster ( takes them about 20-30 mins to organise.
infinity PH Rare back in TPR or they brought to you from F?

Lobster can be ordered for brekky if there is any left from night before. There are 4 food deliveries to SKL Lounge daily - seafood is not delivered til 1st daily delivery mid morn - if Lobster supplies exhausted previous night then you are out of lucj until first delivery. But again don't feel constrained by menu - if the chefs have the ingredient they will prepare you anything.

I was amused that one of the desk ladies advised us that the TPR would close at 2am so we couldn't stay there all night - I think she thought we were going to camp out there until our flight 2 days later.

We headed off on the long trek to A14 at 8.50am to find the gate deserted and then found that the flight had been moved to gate B9 - double the trek the other end of the terminal. Is it unrealistic to have expected the TPR staff to have notified us of the change?
TPR does indeed closed for cleaning once last pax has dep lounge to catch last SQ flt out - usually Moscow flt I think - it reopens 05:30. Staff would only be trying to alert you to this fact as SKL F and J stays open 24hr and some pax think TPR does also.

As for the removal of the Dep Board from TPR I still think this is lunacy. I emailed SQ and gave them my thoughts - their response was that SQ TPR staff are moving to a 'More Personal' approach in keeping pax informed of deps - clearly this did not work in this instance. Bazzi please make sure you send feedback to [email protected]

Please be careful with complaints. I dunno if the same holds for ground staff as cabin crew, but even what seems to be the simplest of complaints about cabin crew can have hefty financial penalties. SQ takes feedback very seriously indeed. My suggestion about complaints would be that unless absolutely necessary, very general feedback which makes it impossible to identify the member of staff would be preferable (unless you want them to get into strife).

infinity, thanks for your travel diary for the day - it gives me some ideas for what to do in early May when we land about the same time on SQ345 and then depart a number of hours later on SQ221.

It's ok Jessica we have been booking flights with SQ so our Kris Miles don't get too close to expiration. All I think is that some family members will miss us when we are gone. Meanwhile it is fun to do first class as I did fly coach for more than 2 decades.

Thanks CE - your recent post answered my question about where I should send feedback
Food out of CDG in J yesterday was rubbish - not that it detracted much from the wonderful SQ J experience - but I want them to know how bad it was
Beef casserole consisted of three fatty lumps of stewing meat in a watery broth
Chicken was in an semi-opaque white sauce
The breakfast fruit salad was an orange cut in four, accompanied by two half strawberries!!!

Lucky I had pre-ordered the lobster for lunch out of SIN!! All good again

The Ette and I had a meal ex FRA in July that was basically inedible - CSM apologized profusely and guaranteed he would include in flt report. I flew out of FRA early Sept and meal was PERFECT - SQ do action matters when they are aware of shortcomings.

CE and Ette will be likely to pick up an SQ diplomatic award when they start giving them out.
Only once did we get mutton for a lamb dish....everything else has been wonderful.

Long day at the TPR office.

Arrived on SQ 479 from CPT at 6.00am

Piper Rare was served after a shower.

Despite the brekky menu, I requested the lobster ( takes them about 20-30 mins to organise).

Served on time, then 2 hours of emails etc before boarding the free Heritage tour

Jumped off that in town ( didn't head back to Changi).

A quick curbside bite of lunch in in Haji Lane in Maylasian quarter .

$14.50 for 2 pax with a fresh lime drink.

Gotta love going from TPR to a big budget show like that.

Much walking then Marina Bay Gardens and a visit to Skypark on top of Marina Bay Sands hotel for a couple of cold beers and night lights

$20 cab back to F class check in , another shower, AFF post and dinner next

Lobster double for me ;)

Plus 1 always lobster as she preferred teh 8 oz on the flight

.......the couple in the Q Lounge at SYD in shorts, singlets and thongs (and filthy feet to match), the man having the skype conversation over his breakfast in the TPR with a patchy connection so we heard 'can you hear/see me' a dozen times, the several people in the TPR taking photos of anything and everything (the TV???) including US which we felt was a great intrusion on our privacy and enjoyment of the lounge or the absolute devastation of a toilet cubicle at SYD with one or other of human waste product completely covering the toilet bowl. Don't get me started on those who simply cannot close a hotel room door without slamming it shut!..............
Or the repeated, loud sniffing or should I say SNORTING throughout the flight.
Passengers barking orders to staff, rather than making a polite request

Oops, isn't there a thread for this elsewhere???

any BTC on J advice for HKG-SIN-SYD?

Can't advise the HKG sector, but ex SIN the Indian Lamb Shank or Malay Beef Rendang are winners for me. Out of Singapore I tend to think you will get best experience from locally themed dishes rather than Western ones.

Well that was rather amusing, we just got kicked out of TPR.

We had a mixed class redemption, Suites from SYD-SIN then J from SIN-LGK. We had a 36hr layover in SIN (no earlier flights to LGK), so enjoyed a couple of nights there (with a free upgrade at MBS, woo!).

Back to the airport, checked in for the SIN-LGK and went to TPR. It was our understanding (discussed earlier in this thread) that because it was an F booking, but there was no availability for F on the LGK leg, that we would have a J seat, but for all intents and purposes be flying on an F ticket, i.e. access to TPR.

We got in, sat down for a meal and champagne (1995 Blanc Des Millenaires), before kindly being asked to leave.. Demoted to the standard F lounge.

Not a worry, was quite funny in the end.

You had mixed class rdpt F/J on one rdpt priced at F rate? If YES then you are entitled to TPR access prior to your SIN-LGK sector unless there has been a sudden policy change by SQ on this exact matter.

Did you explain to Lounge staff your situation?

I think SQ would have been aware of that given the OP was sent to the F lounge and not the J lounge. This was a transit of 36 hours. I think the F lounge is still a generous SQ policy for such a long connection. Those benefits aren't replicated by other star airlines.

Would be interesting to get an official written policy if this is allowed.

It's unequivocal MEL - mixed class rdpts price at highest cabin rate in that rdpt and benefits for that cabin flow - extended transit or including a stopover does not affect that policy - what other *A airlines do totally irrelevant - first time I have ever heard this benefit not being honoured.

And of course dec540 should be seeking offical clarification but that does not help in this instance.
