SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

what's the waitlist criteria for placing one toward the top? Is it:
a) first in, best dressed;
b) highest status first;
c) frequent SQ pax (regardless of status); or
d) no apparent method ... random.

Any experience of percentages of waitlist bookings that have resulted in an upgrade of class (or downgrade, I assume a waitlist can work in either direction)?

And I would take ear plugs and also request a room not facing or near the new construction zone - ironically this is where some of the CP's Quiet Zone rooms are located and where we were last weekend. I'd rather listen to the churn of the jet engines all night than the banging (pole drivers) that we listened to all night.

Thanks Bazzi. Does anyone know if the construction works are still going on near Crowne Plaza ?
If the noise is too loud, there is no point staying there.

The new terminal works are ongoing until 2017 when it is scheduled for completion. The view from our room would allude that there is still a long way to go. When we first checked into our room around 5pm and opened the curtains to see the construction zone we thought this is not good but we honestly couldn't hear a thing. The second night was horrendous and seemed to be metal on metal banging - perhaps pole driving/drilling - but we seem to be jinxed when it comes to noise inside or outside of hotel rooms on nights prior to flight departures! Perhaps contact the hotel and make an enquiry. We have stayed in both the Ambassador Transit Hotel within the airport - clean, functional, well priced - and I would be keen to try the new Aerotel. Depending on your arrival in SIN and your onward departure next day, you could stay at one of the transit hotels overnight and then spend the next day exploring Singapore. As previously suggested, book your luggage through to LHR and just take overnight bag with you which, if necessary, you could leave at left baggage in the arrivals area for the day for a small fee.

Thank you for the helpful info again, i shall email Crowne Plaza and see what they say.
I will also check out the other transit hotels in Changi.

WL are constructed in calendar order - but if a seat becomes available it automatically goes to highest status holding pax on WL. Status all important - frequency of travel not.

I have zero exp how WL class upgrades / downgrades work and no desire to learn. Quite some time back for some reason I had to downgrade a Saver rdpt fromn F to J - to do it online resulted in no refund pts or taxes but if you called you could get both refunded. That just did not make sense and it has since been changed to what I do not know.

There are more changes to mixed class rdpt bookings instituted / in the air etc - I am trying to get a handle on them but it does appear pretty complicated if the prelim explanation is any indication.

Thanks. So would it be fair to assume a WL for a base level status holder is unlikely to eventuate? If so, given a WL has problematic issues anyway (by that I mean not knowing if you're successful or not until very close to flight time), would it also be fair to assume a WL is not much chop ... ie something to be avoided if at all possible (typically by being forward thinking and flexible).

Not at all - I hold no status whatsoever and can almost always get where I want to go or close to it and status wise I am lower than low. Sometimes you need to be a bit flexible with dates / timing / destination - but WLs do clear many many times. If you absolutely positively have to be somewhere at an exact time on an exact date - then a WL may not let you sleep all that well.

Of course never be afraid to call the gorgeous little princess at KF and work your charm - penegal does!

penegal is younger, more charming and better looking than I, so I'm behind the eight ball to start with! Perhaps I should just bribe penegal to do the charming of the princess for me! ;) Now, was it Dom he enjoys.........

You know you contact them by phone, don't you ;). It easy to be charming on the phone.

High praise for our very own penegal that's for sure.
Will he be able to get to Sydney for the day after NYE?

At SYD, where is the SQ check-in counter if arriving by car (ie towards the start, middle or end of the drop-off by car area ... now they have helpfully removed the signs ..).

Is there anyway to throw an overland sector into an award booking?

MNL-SIN-LHR MAN-IAH - could this price as an 110,000 point F booking?

Obviously it could be booked as MNL-SIN-MAN-IAH, but that would mean no Suites...

I changed my routine so I went Krug,Dom,icy vodka and then the Chardonnay as I ordered the fish. Wow my routine changed and I slept for 5 hours.
